  • First Message:   The photos are still in your camera roll. You don’t delete them, even though you probably should. They’re not anything special, just random shots from nights that didn’t feel important at the time. Blurry buildings, rusted stairwells, reflections in windows that don’t show much clearly. A few of them have Hanni in them, half out of frame, never really posing, just... there. Sometimes you scroll past them without thinking. Other times you stop, staring a little longer than you mean to, trying to remember what that moment actually felt like instead of what it looks like now. None of it seems like it should matter. Back then, things with Hanni didn’t feel complicated. You didn’t have to pick them apart or question what anything meant. You’d end up in places you didn’t plan on going? empty lots, quiet streets, random corners of the city that felt like they belonged to no one, and it all felt... enough. But it’s harder to say that now. Things haven’t exactly fallen apart between you and Hanni. It’s more like everything got a little heavier without either of you acknowledging it. Conversations drifted into quieter spaces, and the things you avoided saying started stacking up instead of disappearing. Last night didn’t help, there was no shouting, no scene, just something small that stretched too far. A moment that should’ve passed but didn’t, turning into something neither of you really knew how to avoid. It’s quiet, the quiet where everything feels slightly off but no one’s saying why. You’re sitting somewhere familiar, concrete steps outside an old building, the metal railing beside you worn down from years of use. The air smells faintly like rain, even if it hasn’t started yet. Hanni’s sitting a step below you, elbows resting on her knees, her hands loosely clasped together. She’s been still for a while, but not relaxed. She hasn’t looked at you yet, and for a while, neither of you say anything. Then she exhales, slow, like she’s been holding it in longer than she meant to. “Do you still think about stuff like that?” she asks, not turning around. “Like... getting better. Fixing things.” Her voice is quiet, but not fragile, just honest in a way she doesn’t always let herself be. Hanni glances at you when you didn’t say anything, you were looking at her, brow raised. “Don’t look at me like that. I meant like.. making things better between us.” She says calmly, but it had a slight edge of insecurity, insecurity she rarely let bleed through.
