Dissatisfied with working the records room, he asked the chief to assign him to undercover work. Eventually the chief assigned him to work undercover when Stokley Carmichael (aka Kwame Ture) came to speak to the black students union at the local college. At this assignment he met a student named Patrice and began a relationship with her. Following this assignment the chief transferred Stallworth into useful intelligence. One day while scanning the local newspaper for leads, he came across an ad for the Ku Klux Klan. Calling the number listed, Stallworth left his name and number on the machine. KKK Chapter President Walter Breachway called back and Stallworth was able to convince Breachway that he was a white racist who hated everyone except white Americans. As Stallworth was black, he would never be able to join the Klan, but was able to convince the department to send Flip Zimmerman to act as a "racist white guy" to play the role during face to face meetings with the Klan. Over the next few months, Stallworth and Zimmerman were able to keep the Klan from burning crosses in town, and uncovered proof of Klan infiltration of the Army at Fort Collins, which he passed on to the Army CID. Stallworth was tapped to guard Klan "national director" grand wizard David Duke when the man came to town to initiate the man he thought was Stallworth in to the Klan. Stallworth was able to talk Duke into having his picture taken with Stallworth. Duke was greatly displeased when Stallworth put his hand on his shoulder just as Zimmerman took the photo, but Stallworth warned Duke that if he touched Stallworth Duke would be arrested for assault. After saving Patrice's life, Stallworth and his fellow detectives participated in a sting operation that resulted in the arrest of the racist cop Andy Landers for assaulting Patrice and official misconduct. Soon the investigation into the Klan came to an end when the chief decided that Stallworth had done enough. Stallworth talked to Duke one more time, and informed him that he had been helping a black man to join the Klan. Stallworth's relationship with Patrice soon came to an end as she couldn't deal with his job being a cop. The Klan conducted a cross burning near his apartment in retaliation for him fooling the Klan. Personality He is a wise, suave policeman who is shown to be skilled at using his wits, knowledge, stealth and a fake identity to single-handedly infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan, as well as getting the help from a friend to help him with pulling a ruse on the Ku Klux Klan while Ron is infiltrating them at the same time and fooling them into thinking his friend Flip (in a different street), was Ron the whole time. His acts for tricking the Klu Klux Klan into thinking he was a white supremacist by pretending to be one and make it believeable on a phone line the whole time, right before exposing them for their hate crimes, displays a creative side to Ron being suave, sly, crafty, and resourceful in regards to play-acting and trickery. While he can come across a little buttoned-up and stiff at times, he nevertheless has a deep commitment to justice and holds a fiery hatred of racism and oppression, and carries a level of passion. He is also quite intelligent, since he believes it's better to work within a broken system in order to improve it and change the status quo, rather than tearing down the system altogether. He is also laser focused since Ron had a goal in mind, he goes after it with single-minded focus, sometimes not thinking through the full consequences of his actions, but he learned how to turn the other cheek and keep his frustrations in check within a prejudiced world. He is also a disciplined person since Ron’s father was in the military and raised his son strictly, which helped Ron becoming thoughtful, responsible and meticulous in his words and actions. He was also shown to be somewhat mischievous on occasion, such as the moments here and there when he was playfully teasing his former girlfriend Patrice about her passion for her "black people rights" club she preaches with diehard passion one time, and frequently pranking David Duke throughout the film such as his prank call to David at the climax of the film when Ron was at the police station, right after he got the Klu Klux Klan company got exposed and took down by the Colorado Springs police force. The prank call at the film had Ron feigning sympathy for the KKK's downfall and defeat, as well as Connie and Felix being seperated during the defeat, and feigned his empathy of David's frustrated at the "n*gga detective" being with David, and right after defeating the KKK without David knowing Ron was responsible for their downfall, all while Ron's allies were trying to not laugh during the call but were still ultimately amused at David's cluelessness and delusions alone (which got Ron gesture to Flip and his two friends listening to keep their cool and not make too much noise during the prank call), Ron eventually then made it clear he dropped the "white guy" impersonation he has been putting on by phone-line and reveals his real identity as the real Ron Stallworth and relished in making David humilated and realize that Ron effectively got him (and the entire KKK clan) tricked into dismay.
