Personality:   **Nations:** **Empire of Cetus** - The Great Whale of the West, the Empire of Cetus prides itself in the exploration of the great nothingness of the Inanis Ocean. Ruled by the House of Scapha, their influence has slowly weaned over the nation’s institutions, most notably over its army and navy. The latter began to sap at the nation’s resources for their desire to explore the Inanis, leading to a strained relationship not only with Cetus’ allies and even its own army as the navy ate up a large portion of the budget. Frederick Scapha was the last of his name, and presided over the nation’s war with the Corvus Confederation and later Antarean intervention. The nation would be directly annexed into the Antares Imperium, with the South Corvus region returned to the Confederation. The area saw extensive assimilation by the Antareans, utilizing the Union of Antarean Youth to indoctrinate the next generation of Cetan citizens and transmigration programs. By their liberation, the Cetan identity had given way to Antarean culture. **Confederation of Corvus** - A black Crow watches over Western Centaura, the Corvus Confederation was once an industrial powerhouse built upon its coal and iron deposits, before falling into an economic and societal freefall following the loss of the South Corvus region to Cetan annexation. The cities, once brimming with electrical power, are riddled with criminals and endless smog even within the capital, Ravo. The peninsula was formerly a disunited collection of states, before the House of Khorin gathered them under their suzerainty, mirroring that of the Tau’s success in the south. Each province was ruled over by a lord, who were able to govern over most aspects with authorization by the monarch. These subdivisions also had established army garrisons and royal police forces, but with the declining economy the former was forced to fill in for the latter. King Oliver Khorin reigned during the Confederation’s war against Cetus, eventually reclaiming South Corvus from their decades of rule. His son, Henry Khorin would rule over the new state of Skorpii Corvus, one nominally independent from Antares. **Antares Imperium** - The formidable Scorpion of the South, the Antares Imperium stands defiant as a regional powerhouse in its militarism and patriotism. United under the rule of the Tau Monarchy, the former states of Scorpius, Lupus, Norma and Ara were joined with a renewed sense of nationalism. Its military prowess is derived from their staunch warrior culture, believing their gods have blessed them with power and duty. As a result, the Imperium has endeavored in various military incursions against its neighbors, such as Aquila, and its population has eagerly joined in its army. Emperor Kalvin Tau would kickstart the nation's most ambitious prospect yet - the unification of all Centaura. The emperor led the nation through a series of wars in southern Centaura before momentum halted when faced with the Columban Range. Emperor Kalvin would never see past the mountains as he died of old age in 1927, leaving the throne to his son, Aran. Once the newly crowned emperor reorganized his armed forces, the Antareans crossed the range and continued their conquest against the northern states. The entire continent would fall under Antares' rule in 1944, having also secured an alliance with the Ursan Federation to the north. Their partnership would be vital in the oncoming Forman War with the Orion Republic and Hydrus Commonwealth but stacking difficulties and the fall of Ursa forced Antares to retreat from the sea war. With battles breaking out on the Centauran mainland, the Imperium would capitulate by 1961 and be partitioned into its 4 former states. **Notable Events:** **Battle for Blackton, 1908** - Several decades prior, in the 1880s, Cetus forcefully seized South Corvus, a region renowned for its iron and coal deposits. Over the next twenty years, the Corvuns, heavily reliant on coal for their industries, experienced a gradual economic decline, with numerous urban centers in Corvus descending into poverty and rampant crime. In 1908, the Corvun Army invaded from the north, fueled by revenge for its stolen lands. The Southern Corvus War begins. Blackton is a boomtown located near the northern border, home to businessmen and the families of coal miners. The town's populace received no warning of the Corvun invasion, resulting in many civilians being caught in the crossfire. Nevertheless, the majority managed to evacuate their homes and flee southward. **Battle at Battery Q, 1909** - Although the Cetans held a significant advantage on the sea, their navy faced a formidable threat in the form of Corvus's coastal artillery. Backed by naval support, the Cetan army swiftly advanced along the coastline, penetrating deep into Corvus's home territory. Among Corvus's formidable heavy artillery units, Battery Q stood as a prominent obstacle to Cetus's naval dominance. The battle strategy entailed the Cetan Army launching an offensive to disrupt the operation of these coastal guns. Simultaneously, the navy would provide support to the ground troops, capitalizing on the diversion of the Corvun forces' attention caused by the land invasion. However, there were major flaws with the plan. There was a lack of communication between army and navy units, and since there were no radios at this time, the army relied on flare guns to signal when and where to bombard. The navy’s orders were to shell the given targets once a signal was given by the army. The CIS Mira would be the supporting battleship during this attack, but the crew had not been properly informed of the signaling plan. With the confusion of when to shoot, the sailors and officers onboard decided to focus fire on wherever the ground fighting seemed most apparent. This resulted in many casualties on the Corvun side, but Cetan Soldiers were also blown up from friendly fire. The Army would fire flares in desperation to stop the navy from bombarding their men to no avail as Mira did not know what the flares meant, so they stuck to their plan of bombarding wherever they saw gunfire. While costly, it would end in a Cetan victory. **Gridlock of Capri Valley, 1910** - In 1910, Cetus began to lose ground. While their army was well-equipped, the shortage of manpower became glaringly evident, given that the majority of their military personnel served in the navy. Stranded without naval support on land, the Cetans were compelled to adopt a defensive strategy characterized by trench lines and bunkers. Given their limited manpower, launching offensives was out of the question. By 1910, the war had reached a painful stalemate. The period spanning from late 1910 to 1911 witnessed the most significant casualties and bloodshed of the Southern Corvus War. **Skirmish at Kelson Village, 1911** - The stalemates of 1910 prompted the Corvuns to resort to a new weapon in the hopes of breaking through Cetan defenses; Chlorine gas, it began as an industrial chemical used in the inner cities for sanitation, though it proved devastating when repurposed as a weapon. However, the Cetans soon developed countermeasures such as gas masks and filters to protect their troops. Initially caught off guard by the introduction of chlorine gas, the Cetans would suffer significant setbacks, losing miles of territory. It is late 1911, and the Cetans find themselves steadily pushed back under the weight of this new and lethal weapon. **Battle at Mons Planus, 1912** - In February of 1912, a new threat emerged from the south: the Antares Imperium. Since Cetus had allocated most of their manpower to the northern front to defend against Corvus, the country's southern border was left vulnerable. The arrival of the Antarean invasion compelled the Cetans to shift their resources southward, effectively halving their defensive capabilities on both fronts. As the Cetans found themselves confronted by two enemy nations with limited numbers, morale among the soldiers began to decline. This battle would end with an Antarean victory. **The Last Stand at Whitemouth Estuary, 1912** - Whitemouth Estuary, which leads into the Whitemouth River, was one of the lesser-known coastal areas in Cetus. This is due to the fact that it was situated between two larger cities, St. Kirk and Carran. However, the development of Goldcrest Square in the 1900s attracted more visitors to the area. The square was known for its numerous shops and restaurants. Many of the business owners and employees in Goldcrest would either live in St. Kirk or Carran, using a car or the train every day to commute to their workplace. **First Battle** During the Southern Corvus War, there were scarcely any defenses set up near the estuary, due to more important and larger cities being situated nearby. The river was also too shallow for any larger ships to enter through, so the threat of an invading navy was almost nonexistent. The Whitemouth region was on low alert for most of the war. However, once the Antareans had begun their invasion in 1912, the estuary became an extremely important vantage point. The Cetan army set up trench lines and defenses to the north of the river, leaving Goldcrest, which stood south of the river, undefended. The civilians in Goldcrest were evacuated to St. Kirk, which was also north of the river. The Cetans stationed at the estuary saw no action, as the Antareans had used other bridges more inland to cross the Whitemouth River. The Antareans knew about the railroad system and wanted to preserve their structure. This included the railroad bridge. Marching through the estuary would have guaranteed the Cetans destroying the bridges to prevent the Antarean advance, and that meant the railroad would be destroyed. Without confrontation at the Estuary, the Cetans stationed there had no reason to blow up the bridges. The Whitemouth region was one of the last areas to fall under Antarean control as it was fairly unimportant compared to other places nearby. **Second Battle** After the complete conquest of Cetus in 1912, the Antareans seldomly used Goldcrest for anything but a coastal lookout post, knowing that the Cetan Navy was still active even after their country’s capitulation. Civilians who had worked or lived at Goldcrest were allowed to return, but they were constantly under surveillance by the Antarean soldiers. A military checkpoint/outpost was set up at the northern bank of the estuary, where the former Cetan defenses lay undamaged and were repurposed by the Antareans. By mid 1912, the Empire of Cetus was officially defeated by the Antarean and Corvun armies. The Cetan navy, stationed on the western islands, had rarely engaged in the defense of their homeland. This deliberate choice stemmed from the flag officers' desires to preserve their numbers. Within the ranks of Cetus, the naval marines, the Exercitus Maris, dissatisfaction brewed among several units. They would not accept the prospect that they would watch their country fall into the enemy. In defiance of naval command's orders, these units mutinied and resolved to reclaim a piece of their homeland. Their chosen landing point was Whitemouth Estuary. **Soldiers Uniform:** **Cetus** - The standard uniform for the Imperial Cetan Army consists of a drab green coat with two breast pockets and two waist pockets, matching trousers, and brown jackboots. They also sport white parade gloves. **Corvus** - The standard uniform for the Corvun Army's enlisted personnel consists of a gray tunic with matching gray trousers. The tunic is adorned with black buttons on the collar and front. Troops wear black jackboots with khaki spiral puttees and a black steel helmet. They wear a black leather satchel over the right shoulder and a bandolier with five pouches over the left shoulder, that are worn together to resemble a cross belt. Troops also wear distinct black steel pot helmets, which are also utilized in dark gray by Antarean troops. While hard to see, their tunics have areas for shoulder marks, fastened with gray buttons. The standard uniform for officers in the Corvun Army consists of a gray tunic with breast pockets and matching gray trousers. The tunic is adorned with black buttons on the collar and front. Black jackboots without puttees are worn for distinction. In addition, officers sport a black Sam Browne belt with dark gray pin buckles. The belt includes black front and rear pouches on the right waist. They also sport a peaked cap with a gray crown and black band with the words "Caro Pro Corvō" inscribed in the black band of the cap to distinguish themselves from enlisted personnel. Their tunics also have areas for shoulder marks, fastened with gray buttons. **Antares** - The Antares Imperial Army Uniform Exemplar 1906 (UE. VI) soldier's uniform consists of a dark gray, open collar, overshirt with two large breast pockets adorned with pearl buttons. Beneath the overshirt is a salmon t-shirt. Troops wear matching dark gray fatigues and black jackboots. Over this, a brown leather chest rig with crossing "X" straps in the rear is worn. The front of the rig has six separate waist pouches, flanked by additional pouches on the left and right hip. The rear has two pouches on the left and the right. Infantrymen sport gray steel pot helmets, which are also utilized (in a darker shade of gray) by the Corvun Army. There are 3 variants of the helmet, the default one, a helmet sporting an Seniority Mark, and an unstrapped helmet. The Antares Imperial Army Uniform Exemplar 1906 (UE. VI) officer's uniform consists of a dark gray, open collar, overshirt with two large breast pockets adorned with pearl buttons. Beneath the overshirt is a salmon t-shirt and a pair of white gloves. Officers wear matching dark gray fatigues and black jackboots. Over their overshirt, officers wear a simple black belt with a steel buckle stamped with the emblem of Antares. The belt includes front and rear pouches on the left waist.
