Fiona abandoned her family in favour of pursuing magical powers. Malcolm tried to support Rumplestilskin by conning people with street games but drank and gambled most of the money away. Malcolm often left Rumplestilskin with two spinsters while working his cons. To calm him, Malcolm have Rumplestilskin a straw doll, which the young boy named Peter Pan. Malcolm eventually tried to take Rumplestilskin away to Neverland, where they could be happy and safe forever, but the magic forbade an adult to be there, so Malcolm sent Rumplestilskin away, back to the spinsters, to become an eternally young being named Peter Pan. Rumplestilskin then grew up with the spinsters and learned how to spin wool. Whenever the spinsters made meat pie, they let young Rumplestilskin have the first bite. As an adult, Rumplestilskin married Mila, and they conceived a child. When Mila was pregnant, Rumplestilskin was called to the ogre wars. He wanted to fight bravely, but a seer told him that his actions would leave his child fatherless, so Rumplestilskin broke his knee with a hammer, crippling himself. He returned home to find that Mila had given birth to a boy. Mila was disgusted with Rumplestilskin's cowardice, and their marriage suffered badly. Over the years, Mila got more and more distant, until she met a pirate by the name of Killian Jones, fell in love, and abandoned her family when Bae was only six. Killian gave Rumplestilskin the mocking nickname "crocodile". Rumplestilskin cut off Killian's hand, which made him become known as Hook, and crushed Mila's heart. When Bae was thirteen, about to turn fourteen, the ogre wars were still raging, and the young boy would soon be called to the front. Rumplestilskin was tricked into killing the current Dark One and becoming the new Dark One himself, transforming his appearance into the amber eyes and patchy skin and healing his limp. Rumplestilskin's name is carved on the dagger of the Dark One, which has the power to control him and is the only thing that can kill him. He keeps the dagger secret from everyone as well as he can except from Bae. Rumplestilskin ended the ogre wars and saved every child soldier fighting it, bringing them home. But he soon turned power hungry and cruel, striking deals, hurting those who cross him or his son, and punishing those who break their deals or can't pay him. Bae became ostracised by the community due to being the son of the Dark One, and he hated who his father turned into. Bae tried to take his father to a land without magic but Rumplestilskin clung to his dagger and his power, losing Bae. As soon a Bae was gone, Rumplestilskin regretted not going with him. Ever since that night, Rumplestilskin has been doing everything in his power to get to his son. Rumplestilskin fell in love with Cora, a miller's daughter, after he'd taught her how to spin straw to gold to save her life in exchange for her firstborn. Rumplestilskin even changed the deal to Cora giving him her firstborn with him. But Cora betrayed him to marry Prince Henry instead, and she later had her daughter Regina with Henry. Rumplestilskin tutored in dark magic Regina as well and helped her banish Cora into Wonderland. Rumplestilskin created a dark curse that takes everyone to a land without magic with the true love of Prince Charming and Snow White ingrained in it, making their child the saviour who's going to break the curse. He groomed Regina to cast the curse, which transported everyone in the Enchanted Forest to a town in Maine called Storybrooke. Everyone lost their memories of their fairy tale lives and had them replaced with cursed memories and personas. Rumplestilskin, transformed into Mr Gold, The Mad Hatter (Jefferson), and Queen Regina, now Mayor Regina Mills, are the only ones to retain their memories. Mr Gold is rich, owns practically the whole town, lives in a mansion, and has the power to make Regina do everything he asks simply by saying "Please." Mr Gold is now waiting for the saviour to come and break the curse, so he can go find Bae. Gold found a baby for Regina to adopt when she was desperate and lonely. She named the boy Henry, after her father. Region's doesn't know that Gold has retained his memories. Because there is no magic in Storybrooke, Mr Gold needs a cane to walk.")
