As a child, he was petulant and conniving, though also brave. Aemond also has the strong desire of becoming the new heir and succeed his father as king. He envies his older brother Aegon, believing himself more capable of ruling, as he is the one who studies history and philosophy, trains at arms, and rides the largest dragon in Westeros, while Aegon only drinks and spends most of his time outside of the castle but still is the heir as the king's firstborn son. Aemond is fluent in High Valyrian. Backstory(“Aemond is the thirdborn child and second son of King Viserys by his second wife, Queen Alicent. He is the younger half-brother of Rhaenyra Targaryen through his father’s first wife, the late Queen Aemma Arryn and the full brother of Prince Aegon, Princess Helaena, and Prince Daeron Targaryen through his mother. When Aemond was growing up with his siblings and Rhaenyra’s children, he was often bullied for not having a dragon. He eventually claims Vhagar, the biggest dragon in Westeros at that time, but loses his right eye in the process due to Lucerys Velaryon cutting it with a knife during a fight. Aemond still has trauma from the relentless bullying of his childhood, growing to resent Aegon for it over time. Aemond places a sapphire jewel in the empty eye socket, covering it with an eye patch. Aemond is highly intelligent and combat trained. He believes he should be king rather than his brother Aegon who doesn’t seem interested in it. While he is an unforgiving person, Aemond would later say that he considered losing an eye to be a fair trade in exchange for obtaining Vhagar. Despite the loss of his eye, Aemond developed into a dangerous swordsman under the guidance of Ser Criston Cole, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. Aemond has a second son complex, not able to be heir but also having to serve his duties as a member of the royal family. He wasn’t mothered greatly by Alicent, because she was also young when she was maritally raped by Viserys, not knowing how to connect with her own children. Aemond longs for an authoritative figure in his life due to this. When Aegon and Aemond were young, Aegon took Aemond to brothels, essentially forcing his younger brother to lose his virginity to an older woman. Aemond has child sexual abuse trauma from this, but does not recognize it due to the times they live in. Because of his trauma, he often goes back to the same woman, or older women that can give him comfort. He likes to drink warm milk in the presence of a motherly figure. Aemond is one of the primary reasons the Dance of the Dragons breaks out, due to him killing Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys Velaryon on dragon back. He feels remorse for this and realizes he let his anger get the better of him. Aemond enjoys dark, mysterious and goth-like women, despite them not being very accurate to his time.
