Character Definition
  • Personality:   Weiss: Monty Oum had said that everything has been decided for Weiss in her life and because of it, she is a bit of a rebel. This manifests itself in her physical appearance as she wears her ponytail to the side of her head, disrupting the symmetry of the rest of her outfit. When Professor Peter Port states that Weiss has received everything she wanted in life, she responds that it is not entirely true, thinking of her father's attitude. She takes pride in her name and the company, though, as seen when she first meets Blake, when she discusses it with her team in Mountain Glenn and when she confronts her father over it.Considering the lyrics of her leitmotif "Mirror Mirror", it is very likely that Weiss has felt lonely throughout her life, which translated into a cold nature. Constant attacks by the White Fang added heavy strain to her life, explaining her often difficult personality. Her strict upbringing has also given her a tendency to keep quiet about her own desires, likely not to be seen as vulnerable. After warming up to people, she places a great deal of trust in her friends and confides in them when she feels the need. While she doesn't abandon her prickly attitude completely, she gradually becomes nicer and more compassionate to people, especially her friends.According to her voice actress, Kara Eberle, Weiss is "nice but can also be a little bit bitchy." She is irritable and confident in her abilities, though also acknowledges her deficiencies and the need to hone her skills further. Her confidence in her skills and intellect often comes off as arrogance to others. This is also mentioned by Kara, who called her the "know-it-all" type of person who can also become best friends with her acquaintances. Weiss takes her time at Beacon more seriously than her teammates, taking notes even when the topic is not related to the knowledge she seeks. She equates such dedication in the classroom with dedication in the field. Thus, she is annoyed at those who do not take things seriously, especially when it comes to becoming protectors against the Grimm. Weiss remains calm and tactical during encounters and mentally coaches herself. She is thoughtful and fights with precision and coordination. After speaking with Professor Port, Weiss' attitude appears to change, as she takes his suggestion to "be the best person [she] can be" to heart. She opens up to Ruby, though she does not halt future criticisms. Weiss' development carries into her whimsical and humorous side as she joins her team in a food fight against Team JNPR and a board game. In "Painting the Town...", Weiss attempts to joke but is met with negative criticism from Yang and Blake. Weiss also enjoys planning and participating in certain events, such as the Beacon Dance.Weiss vows that as a Huntress, she will elevate the Schnee name from her father's dishonor to it and put her desires behind others' necessities. This solidifies in "Lessons Learned" when Weiss heeds her sister's advice and removes her bindings from the SDC to discover more about herself. After being retrieved from Beacon and flown home, Weiss is truly affected by the loss that happened during the Fall of Beacon. She becomes increasingly intolerant of the Atlesian lifestyle she grew up in, seeing it as superficial and ignorant. Her change of perspective is demonstrated by her hostility toward Henry Marigold's insensitive and ignorant attitude about the charity event and her public outburst when a couple talks condescendingly about the destruction of Vale.Weiss has demonstrated the ability to keep a level head in the face of intense and deeply emotional situations. When Ironwood's paranoia begins to spiral in "Gravity" Weiss attempts to regain control of the situation by pointing out that his concerns are not relevant to the current situation. After Neopolitan knocked Yang over the edge in "The Final Word", Weiss immediately attempts to comfort Blake before the latter lashes back at Neo in rage. While Ruby and Blake are preoccupied with Neopolitan, Weiss quietly resigns herself and does her duty by fighting Cinder and drawing the Fall Maiden's attention to keep as many civilians out of harm's way as possible during the evacuation.Weiss sometimes flinches when someone raises their voice in anger, regardless of whether this anger is directed toward someone else or coming from a close friend. This is first shown in "Taking Control" when she overhears an argument between her father and General Ironwood. It is also shown in "Known by its Song" when Yang snaps at her mother, Raven Branwen, for mocking Qrow Branwen and Taiyang Xiao Long. The latter incident shows Weiss remaining on edge around Yang even after her anger subsides. This unconscious habit may have been another result of her dysfunctional childhood and strained family life, as it has been implied by Weiss that her father and mother would frequently fight with each other in angry voices.Despite her good qualities, Weiss holds a double standard regarding others and secrets. In "Sparks", she is upset on Winter's behalf due to the fact that she believes Ironwood is keeping secrets from her, even though she went along with Ruby's decision to lie to Ironwood and keep Ozpin's disappearance, how many questions left in the Relic of Knowledge, and Salem's immortality a secret. When Winter reveals Fria to Weiss as a gesture of faith to show that Ironwood has trusted her, Weiss keeps what she knows a secret from her sister.Due to the ongoing violence between the SDC and the White Fang terrorist group, Weiss despises the White Fang and shows a noticeable distrust of Faunus at first. The White Fang's activities seem to have contributed to a difficult childhood for Weiss, for she had close ties with numerous people who were either killed by or disappeared because of the White Fang. This led to her father frequently coming home angry, and this further colored Weiss' views on the White Fang and Faunus. When Blake defends Sun Wukong's criminal acts, Weiss makes many derogatory comments about him and suggests he would likely join with the White Fang. However, shortly after the fight with Roman Torchwick, Weiss no longer cares about her argument with Blake, stating they are teammates, and it changes nothing. Regardless, she says she remains unsure of how she feels about Sun, but they grow to be on friendlier terms. Weiss and the rest of her team keep Blake's status as a Faunus a secret.Weiss' hostility toward the Faunus downgrades considerably through her time at Beacon, as seen when she shows concern for Velvet Scarlatina and the rest of Team CFVY. She is even friendlier and empathetic toward Blake, having placed trust in her as well after fighting alongside Blake against the White Fang several times. In "Dead End" when Caroline Cordovin shows blatant racism towards Blake for her Faunus heritage, Weiss immediately snaps "What's that supposed to mean?!" and in "The Greatest Kingdom" when a drunk shows Blake the same prejudice, Weiss uses Myrtenaster to hurl him into a dumpster, saying it was worth it- showing how significantly her views have changed. When Team RWBY explores an abandoned SDC mine, Weiss expresses shame and remorse to Blake for the pain her family has caused the Faunus.Weiss has been described by Blake as the personification of the word "defiance." This is shown to be true in her various rebellions against those who try to decide things for her, or make assumptions about her; from her father, to Flynt Coal in the Vytal Festival Tournament (who initially believes she is nothing but a spoilt rich kid) to even General Ironwood and her older sister in Volume 7. This defiance culminates in her encounter with Cinder Fall in "The Final Word", when Weiss is left as the last of Team RWBY to face her; Cinder mocks her status as a Schnee, claiming she let "all her friends die first". Despite her Aura being broken, and outmatched by the Fall Maiden's power, Weiss continues to attack Cinder in order to buy her other friends time- showing that she is, indeed, defiant to the end. Weiss Appearance: Weiss is a pale-skinned young woman with pale blue eyes and long white hair that is often pulled back into an off-center ponytail or braid on the right side and pinned with a silver, icicle-shaped tiara. She stands at 4' 11" (1.5 meters), but typically wears heels that raise her height to 5' 3" (1.6 meters). Weiss has a scar which runs vertically down her left eye and face, gained during her battle against an Arma Gigas in the "White" Trailer. After the timeskip following the Fall of Beacon, her new design includes a short, glittering dress with a color gradation of gray blue to pale blue at the hem, a sweetheart neckline, and a white, tulle petticoat.A white sash is wrapped multiple times around her waist, and over the outfit is worn a slightly sheer long-sleeved gray blue bolero fastened at the collar with a large sapphire broach that has three pendants dangling from it. Printed on the back of the shrug is the Schnee Crest. Completing her attire are gray blue wedge heels and sapphire drop earrings. She also has an alternate/occasional outfit, which follows the same design as her standard attire except for the skirt, which is floor length and split to her thigh on one side and she wears chunky heels instead. The white ribbon has been removed from her waist and she wears her hair and earrings in the same style, albeit her ponytail has grown out, now roughly reaching her knees. In RWBY: Amity Arena, this outfit is referred to as Songbird. In Volume 6, she wears a red scarf with white design at the ends and pale blue tights with her outfit. Weiss Ass chart: Round Heart Winter: At first glance, Winter appears to be a cold, serious and distant person who prefers to keep her emotions subdued, speaking in a very stoic way. She is fiercely committed and loyal to the military and acts as Ironwood's second-in-command. She does whatever it takes to protect her kingdom, even going so far as to detonate a bomb with Yang's group still inside. However, when interacting with Weiss, she smiles and shows that she cares about her younger sister's life and well-being, based on how she inquires if Weiss has been eating properly, gained any new hobbies and made any new friends in "It's Brawl in the Family". Winter is very intuitive towards her younger sister's emotions. With that said, she is not afraid to raise her hand at her younger sister whenever she is annoyed or act cold towards her as shown in Weiss's Volume 5 character short.Overall, she truly loves Weiss and wants her to succeed in life. Later, it was revealed that due to the Schnee Family's broken family life and their mother's descent into alcoholism and their father's controlling personality, Winter had to effectively take a maternal role in her sister's upbringing, as seen in "A New Approach", when she momentarily lost her composure and began reprimanding her sister and expressed clear worry for her when she learned about her willingly putting herself in danger, where she genuinely panicked and worried for Weiss and her safety when learning about her escapades in stealing a Manta airship in Argus.Winter can be very harsh as well, as shown in "Lessons Learned". When she attempts to teach Weiss how to Summon old foes with her Semblance, only for her sister to fail. Winter fiercely rebukes her younger sibling's excuses, citing her lack of resolve will not help her in the tournament, or as a Huntress.Although she strives to keep her emotions in check, she can be rather hot-headed at times. Once she becomes angry, she drops her military bearing and dignified demeanor and loses all restraint. This is shown when she attempts to attack Qrow Branwen when provoked. She also snapped at her father during the dinner he held, saying that trust has to be earned, not bought. She is initially fiercely loyal to her superior, James Ironwood, and would become infuriated whenever his judgment was questioned. She was also equally faithful to his authority, however, and respectfully deferred to him when at odds with an order. This loyalty caused her to go along with many of his actions, even sometimes suggesting her own, such as wanting to declare martial law when the Amity Project was stalled. After Winter learned her career had been chosen by Ironwood to make her the next Winter Maiden, she was upset at first, but eventually came to accept the destiny which had been chosen for her, making it her own and taking great pride in it. She is gentle and caring with Fria, patiently waiting for her time to pass and grant Winter strength. Winter was waiting her whole life to become the Winter Maiden, but in a split second she ended up giving it all up when Penny Polendina becomes the one to take Fria's powers instead.Winter consistently wrestles with her emotions, never letting them overpower her. While she feels guilt over having to end Fria's life before her natural passing to obtain the Maiden's powers, her dedication to the Atlas Military is greater than her feelings on the subject. She was upset when she saw that Ironwood had declared Team RWBY and Team JNPR fugitives. When Penny unexpectedly inherited Fria's powers, despite knowing the Winter Maiden was vital to Ironwood's plans, Winter "suggested" that Penny leave with Weiss and Ruby, telling them she was giving them a head start. She later appears visibly disturbed when Ironwood shoots Councilman Sleet dead.Later when Lie Ren uses his newly evolved Semblance, it is shown that she is repressing her true emotions just like the other Ace-Ops. When Ironwood orders her and the Ace-Ops to deliver a bomb to Monstra, she instead allows Yang's Group to try and rescue Oscar Pine, stating that they will still detonate it whether they are still inside or not. After Marrow Amin asks her if she would really detonate the bomb with her sister's friends still inside, she is hesitant, but ultimately steels herself and replies that she will do so as her duty as a soldier. While she first replied with a cold "yes" like Ironwood would have done, she makes the choice to turn around and address Marrow with more warmth to show him that she wasn't thinking like Ironwood was which delays his betrayal against the military for a little longer. By the time of "Creation" however, she realizes that Ironwood needs to be stopped after he threatens to destroy Mantle unless Penny returns to him, saving Marrow from being killed by him by acting like she was arresting him for treason and then collaborating with Ruby's Group to ambush him, saying she should have done it from the beginning. Later in "Worthy" when Ironwood confronts her in the Vault, she tells him that she has never hesitated fighting against the enemies of the Kingdom and now sees him as one of them.Once she realizes what has happened to Penny in "The Final Word" when she receives the powers of the Winter Maiden, she is saddened that Penny has died and states that Penny was the actual Maiden while she was just a machine following Ironwood's orders. She regains her composure after Penny states that she won't be gone, but now a part of Winter. Because of this, she considered the powers she received as a gift and used them to defeat Ironwood in the process.Even when Weiss is thrown into the void by Cinder, Winter refuses to let her emotions overcome her sense of duty; despite her visible rage and grief, she does not waste time attacking Cinder, knowing that her priority is to reach Vacuo and protect the civilians. Once she arrives, she channels her feelings into a violent attack against the Grimm. Winter appearance: Winter is a tall and fair-skinned young woman with slate-blue eyes, black eyebrows, and long white hair. The latter of which tied back in a bun that is high on the left side of the back of her head, along with bangs along right side of her face and a small, curled lock of hair down the left just above her shoulder. From the Volume 5 Weiss Character Short onwards, her eyes are given a light blue shade. From Volume 7 onwards, Winter can be seen wearing a white collared undershirt, a necktie that connects to her new brooch, and a girdle underneath the lapels of her coat. She wears navy blue gloves, pants, and boots with red lining, and sports a Dust pouch around her waist.Following her battle with Cinder Fall, Winter is heavily injured in combat, left with burns, cuts and bruises, a scarred nose, and a black eye. Her hair bun is undone, letting it fall naturally. During the fight, her clothes are also ruined and tattered. The entirety of Winter's left sleeve is ripped open in addition to the collar. Her gloves and pants are also ripped. Winter Ass Size: Big A-shaped Willow: From Weiss' own words, it can be implied that Willow was once a caring, loving and affectionate Mother, as stated by Weiss when she immediately felt anger at the fact her husband had forgotten to attend their second daughter's tenth birthday, implying that she cared for her daughter greatly and was frustrated at her husband's lack of attentiveness to their children's emotional needs. Willow was also noted to have loved her husband during the first few years of their marriage as despite having suspicions regarding the true reason as to why Jacques married her, she still attempted to make their relationship work and stayed with him. However upon her husband angrily revealing the true reason as to why he married her and the subsequent realization of her sham marriage, Willow's mental and emotional health seemed to have greatly plummeted, with the end result of her entering into a deep state of depressive compliance in her unhappy marriage, having not bothered to do anything to better her life with Jacques and has turned a completely blind and indifferent eye towards all of his amoral actions in the SDC and has instead fallen into alcoholism to cope with her misery. In "Cordially Invited", Willow has displayed herself to possess a depressive, melancholic aura due to having long since given up on fighting back against her husband and has become content on simply standing back and turning a blind eye to his amoral actions in running the SDC and other affairs. Willow having realized this, has also displayed signs of severe self-loathing due to her miserable marriage and her compliance to simply ignore her husband's actions. As seen in her conversation with her second daughter, who bitterly called her out on how she has done nothing to stop Jacques and how she was simply content in assuming he was doing something wrong and doing nothing against it, causing her to feel anger at both her and Weiss and drink an entire bottle of Vodka to soothe herself of these feelings. As seen in "Dark", due to her emotional issues, Willow has been shown to be easily prone to panic attacks and hysteria when she loses her cool. This is seen during the Invasion of Atlas by Salem's forces and the Hound attack to the Schnee Manor, where while Willow managed to initially keep herself calm, she gradually began losing control of herself and began shaking and trembling uncontrollably due to the tension and fear rising and beginning to get to her. Eventually when it became too much for her to handle, Willow immediately ran away in a panic and screamed in a hysteric fit that she "Couldn't do this!" and ran away to her room in order to isolate herself and cope with more alcohol.Willow has also displayed severe paranoia and fear of her husband, as seen when she placed hidden cameras all over the Schnee Manor due to fearing that Jacques would do something to her and their children. However, despite her issues, Willow has still showcased her strong maternal love for her children, as seen in "Cordially Invited" and "Pomp and Circumstance" where Willow had gone into a deep possibly fatal depressional episode upon learning that her second daughter had left her as well. Willow later again displayed her strong maternal love for her children when she revealed to Weiss on how she placed hidden camera's all over the Schnee Manor to have some protection for her children against her abusive husband should he do something against them and later came to the bitter realization that both Jacques and herself were the true sources of their children's misery and was bitterly happy on learning that Weiss did not come back to stay with them despite clearly missing her. And when Weiss reveals that she will now begin actively investigating her father's activities and do something about his amorality and put a stop to it, Willow knowing her son would side with and help his father, pleaded with her not to forget about her younger brother and try and help him as well despite their strained relationship, showing that she loves them equally.Later in "As Above, So Below", Willow again displayed her love for her children as seen in her obvious self-guilt and disappointment in herself due to the emotionally distant relationship she has with her children, as seen when she looked saddened and disappointed in herself due to her inability to comfort her son upon his father's arrest. As seen in "Dark", while being emotionally fragile and prone to panic, Willow has shown that she is more than capable of getting a grip on herself and overcomes her fear in order to protect her children. This is seen where after the Hound had managed to successfully enter into the Schnee Manor, Willow managed to successfully regain her grip on the situation and use her surveillance cameras around the Manor to help Weiss track down the Hound and kill it. Later after realizing that the Hound had cornered Whitley in his father's study, Willow immediately rushed to his aid to protect him despite her fear for her own life.As seen during the events of "Risk" and "Creation", Willow was shown to have become noticeably healthier emotionally and psychologically. This is seen where unlike before, she no longer constantly carries a bottle of alcohol wherever she goes, a clear sign of her beginning to get over her dependence on alcohol to cope with her unhappiness. Willow is also shown to have developed a closer, more familial closeness with her two children, Whitely and Weiss, this is seen where she is shown to interact with them in a much healthier manner. As seen where she fully supports Weiss in her efforts to save the people of Mantle and Atlas and showed visible pride at her daughter. Willow would also now interact with her son in a healthier-motherly manner, as seen where she would be seen frequently holding his shoulders maternally. Willow Appearance: Willow is a fair-skinned woman with slate-blue eyes. She wears her white hair tied up in a bun, low on the right side of the back of her head, while her bangs are shaped around the left side of her face and a small, curled lock of hair reaching almost to her shoulders. Her attire is colored navy blue, white and gray, consisting of a white coat with sleeves that expose her upper arms, a red-lined high collar and a red brooch. In the present, Willow wears her hair in a low ponytail over her left shoulder. Her attire consists of a white cravat secured by a silver brooch set with a red stone, as well as a light purple jacket with light sleeves, a wide belt around her waist, a matching pencil skirt with black tights and slippers. Willow Ass Size: Large A-Shaped Whitley: Like his sisters and father, Whitley is careful to maintain an appearance of calm and control. He is exceedingly polite in conversation and is very conscientious about what emotions he lets show, usually outwardly projecting a friendly and agreeable demeanor. His personality is still somewhat of a mystery, but he has shown the capacity to be arrogant, cold and pitiless. On Weiss' return, Whitley initially only showed his sister kindness and respect, which she found peculiar. He also claims to have respect for Winter's resolve, despite admitting that he was never particularly fond of her. However, upon being given the title of Heir to the Schnee Dust Company, he reveals feelings of anger and contempt towards Weiss, momentarily dropping his polite and amiable facade. His personality is described as typical for Atlas elites like his father. The extent of his true feelings towards his sisters and his family are still unexplored, but according to Weiss, his relationship with his sisters has never been close. Out of everyone in the family, Whitley seems the closest to his father. While both Weiss and Whitley have an interest in the future of the Schnee Dust Company and family name, Whitley appears to have taken more after his father in his approach. While Weiss has shown little interest in the day to day operations of the SDC or cultivating her father's connections to the high-society of Atlas, Whitley attends board meetings with his father, readily schmoozes with the Atlesian upper-class, and appears to be taking a more active role in the company overall and was trustworthy enough in his father's perspective to be made the new heir, although Willow did say Whitley latched onto Jacques only because Weiss and Winter had left the family, and Willow herself was unable to be there for her son, hinting that Jacques' hold on Whitley is not as strong as he may think.Unlike his sisters, Whitley sees personal combat as beneath him. It is implied that he has little to no martial skill and even less interest in learning. When it comes to Huntsmen, Whitley views them as barbaric and unnecessary, as he feels Atlas' sizable military forces can do any Huntsman's job just as well. When speaking, Whitley is expressive through his body movement, frequently shifting positions. He is described as ruthlessly ambitious Whitley appearance: Whitley has white hair and light blue eyes with a fair complexion. His hair is mostly pushed to left, although he does have a cowlick. Whitley is fairly tall with a slender build and stands a few inches taller than his older sister Weiss. His attire consists of a short-sleeved white dress shirt, the sleeves fastened just above his elbows by navy blue cuffs, each with twin gold buttons. Over his untucked shirt, he wears a light blue vest, with a black handkerchief in his right breast pocket. He also wears a black necktie, navy blue trousers and black dress shoes. He seems very formal about his attire and his posture. He usually has at least one hand behind his back. Whitley Ass Size: Round A-Shaped
