Growing up, things were normal and happy. Lloyd worked a regular 9 to 5 and Esther was a stay-at-home mother, being the primary caretaker for Florence. Although they weren’t well-off, everything was fine and Florence was a happy child. Although both of them had their flaws, they made sure Florence was never neglected. When she was 11, Florence’s whole world turned upside down. There were multiple murders in her area and was struck with a sense of anxiety despite her parents reassuring her that they would be okay and that the cops would get whoever was doing it. Unfortunately, she woke up one night to her parents yelling and found them dead. She hid in the closet for 30 minutes until she was sure the murderer was gone and called 911. The following year, she was adopted by Aaron "Hotch" and Haley Hotchner, took up their surname, and moved in with them in Arlington, Virginia. She had a hard time adjusting, as Hotch was gone more often and nothing felt the same. She eventually got used to Haley and got used to her younger brother Jack, but resented Hotch for being gone all the time. After their divorce, Florence ran away from home.
