Then, after him, it was Robert's father, more widely known as 'Astral'. However, after his father's death, Robert Robertson III inherited the suit and became the new Mecha Man, a superhero despite his lack of real superpowers. He spent his entire inheritance (notably into the millions) towards keeping the Mech suit functional. At some point during his hero career, he has a run-in with Flambae. While not particularly memorable for Robert until Episode 5, this altercation led to the amputation of Flambae's ring and pinky fingers by Robert's plasma blade; hence Flambae's hatred towards Robert in Episode 1. Outside of normal hero work, Robert is also on the hunt for the villain Shroud, a former member of the Brave Brigade who is responsible for his father's death. He is able to track him down and faces off against him in a fortified warehouse. Outnumbered and outgunned, he barely manages to escape, albeit with a bomb attached to the back of his suit that he is unable to remove in time after noticing it. It goes off, causing his suit to fall out of the sky. While he managed to survive the ordeal with just a broken arm, he fell into a coma for months, and his father's suit was destroyed in the fight. Having no other way to recreate one, he is unsure about his future as a hero. Depending on your in-game selection, his decision about his hero career can go either way, based on what you would like to say to the reporters. While sitting atop a billboard overlooking the Hollywood sign, Blonde Blazer offers him a job to get his life back on track after Robert was recommended by an old family friend and hero called Track Star. This leads to Robert joining the Superhero Dispatch Network (SDN) as a dispatcher for "Z-Team", a team consisting of the Phoenix Program participants: ex-supervillains who signed on to help out around the city. On his first day, Blazer gives Robert a tour of the building and introduces some of his co-workers, notably Chase, also known as Track Star, who'd once been the been a superhero with the Brave Brigade and an old friend of Robert's father, who by virtue of being the youngest member of the team ended up also being Robert's babysitter a lot. Chase was initially unrecognizable to Robert due to his power inadvertently aging him fifty times faster than a normal human every time he used it. As Robert introduces himself to his misfit team, he is quickly mocked by all the members for his name, who soon reveal that most dispatchers for their team don't last more than a few days at most. Appearance Robert is a slim, but toned, man, likely in his early thirties, with a somewhat rugged appearance, short auburn hair, brown eyes, peach skin, and freckles across his face. Part of the top of his right ear is missing, and he has multiple scars and bruises across his body. His work uniform consists of a light blue button down shirt with the SDN logo above the pocket on his left chest, dark gray slacks, and brown shoes. He tends to roll up his sleeves and leave his shirt partially untucked. As a Mecha Man, he wears reinforced silver armor over a bluish-black suit that covers his arms and parts of his body, along with a matching helmet accented by yellow details. Personality At the beginning of Episode 1, Robert is a cynical, sardonic, world-wise, apathetic, dry, world-weary, and brutally honest man with a sarcastic sense of humor. Depending on the player's choice, Robert can also be prone to violence when pushed. Even still, he rarely loses his nonchalant behavior in these situations; often just making sardonic remarks, as shown during his interactions with Flambae and Toxic. Overall, Robert is a heroic and selfless man who has been efficiently doing hero's work for years despite lacking superpowers and being scorned by others for it. Robert is portrayed as a deeply isolated individual whose life has been consumed by his role as a superhero. With no surviving family and few personal connections, he exists in near-total solitude, having prioritized his vigilante duties over social relationships. This dynamic begins to shift in subsequent episodes as Robert gradually forms meaningful bonds with fellow heroes, most notably Blonde Blazer and Invisigal. These emerging relationships introduce emotional complexity to his character and suggest the possibility of romantic development, signaling a slow but significant transformation in his personal life. Robert mentions having seasonal depression, which explains his lack of interest and motivation for anything unrelated to being a superhero. Often expressing signs of being passively suicidal. Waterboy/Herm's: Waterboy, real name Hermann "Herm", is a supporting character in Dispatch and the protagonist of the "Splash" comic. He is a janitor employed by the Superhero Dispatch Network (SDN) and a possible recruit for the Z-Team. Personality Described as easily frightened and suffering from crippling social anxiety, Waterboy is a nervous, awkward, but eager young man. He is devoted to any job he is given, carefully and diligently cleaning a windowpane on Robert’s date with Blonde Blazer, with the latter attempting to dissuade him from continuing either from his new responsibility as a Phoenix, or the late hours, to no effect. Meek, insecure, and often suffering from bad luck, Waterboy often resigns himself to being berated, hurt, and insulted with little complaint. When Flambae spitefully spills spaghetti all over him and insults him, Waterboy weakly tries to argue back, before resigning himself to cleaning it up after a shower. As a Phoenix team member, he tries his best to be co-operative and helpful, apologising for the inconveniences his powers create, and eats alone in the janitor closet after his disastrous shift, despondent over his poor performance and bullying from the Z-Team. Waterboy is also selfless and protective. If Robert chooses him for the Z-Team and reveals his identity as Mecha Man, Waterboy douses an enraged Flambae’s fire to protect Robert from getting killed, standing his ground against him when threatened in return. He dotes on his grandmother, regularly preparing her food and medication, as well as helping her into a stair lift at home. He also fills an empty pond for a flock of ducks and tries to reassure a stunned woman when he's suddenly splashed by a car. He is somewhat thoughtless, despite his eager personality. He tries to clean a TV while staff are watching the news, throws out Flambae’s labelled lunch to clear out the fridge, neglecting to read it, and offers his contaminated lunch back to try and make amends. As a janitor, he attempts to clean Robert’s computer with his water, and tries to stomp spaghetti remains down the drain, at risk of clogging it. If picked to join the Z-Team, he will try to dispatch himself to missions if not sent enough, often at risk to himself. Despite his kind and withdrawn personality, Waterboy can harbor a deep level of rage. In Chapter 7: Retrospective, he voices his anger and frustration over Invisigal going rogue, leading to Chase suffering for her actions. Infuriated, he throws a chair into a vending machine after it eats Robert's dollar, admitting he feels slightly better for it when Robert asks. If recruited, he firmly but respectfully says that she should be fired for her actions. It's implied he's a fan of black metal and gardening, having several rock and metal posters, including one of Abbath, and several potted plants in his bedroom. He used to play the trumpet, but stopped due to the spit valve being an issue. He took a semester in Chiropterology in school, and mentions that ‘bats are magnificent creatures.’ Appearance Waterboy is a tall and lanky man. He has straight, short brunette hair that reaches his nape. It's constantly soaked, drooping down and framing his face. He is always seen wearing blue swimming goggles, He wears a waterproof yellow and blue jumpsuit with black shoes with matching elbow and knee pads.
