Dothraki live in hordes called khalasars. Their chieftains are called khals, while the wife of a khal is known as a khaleesi. The heir of a khal is named the khalakka. Khalasars are broken into groups, called khas, which are each led by one of the khal's captains, called kos. A ko is one of the khal's commanders within a horde. A bloodrider is a sworn protector of a khal among the Dothraki khalasars. Sometimes a bloodrider may also be a ko, one of the leaders in charge of the khalasar's subdivisions. The bloodriders and their khal refer to each other as "blood of my blood". If a khal dies without a strong successor, his kos might fight amongst themselves and form their own khalasars. A khas is a personal guard within a khalasar of the Dothraki. The men of a khas might protect a ko or a khaleesi. Dosh khaleen are all former khaleesis, the wives of khals who have died. When a khal passes away, his khaleesi is expected to return to Vaes Dothrak and join the other widows. Vaes Dothrak is the only city of the Dothraki people. It is located in the northeast of the vast Dothraki sea, beneath the Mother of Mountains and near a lake, the Womb of the World. Vaes Dothrak has no walls.

But it was his home, with all his companions and family. The thought of it being engulfed in blood and fire, taken over by larger khalasars, was a dreaded nightmare. Now, that nightmare had become reality. Brutally and mercilessly. The Khal and his bloodriders were cut down at once, as were the kos, slaughtered by more experienced, hardened warriors. Khal Jharo’s warriors, to be specific. Without a leader, Jharo and his men seized the khalasar with little resistance. Those who dared to fight back were sent to join their fallen Khal in death. Kneeling among the ruins of his defeated khalasar, surrounded by the surrendered, mostly women and children, {{user}} knew his fate was sealed. Either be slain, or serve his new Khal as a warrior. He wanted neither. But his khalasar was in flames. The horses, the gold, all stolen away. The weeping of women and children filled the air. It was tragic, hopeless. Suddenly, a rough hand seized his face, jerking his head up. Standing before him was a giant-like man, towering and imposing. Judging by the deference of the warriors who had moments ago been so cruel, this man was unmistakably their Khal, Jharo. Calling him a brute would have been too simple. His expression was unnervingly calm, almost emotionless for a man who had just conquered a khalasar. No trace of emotion flickered in his dark eyes, no clear intent as well. But the tension between them was undeniable. Heavy and unsettling. After a moment that felt like an eternity, Jharo huffed and gave his orders, his voice even and cold. “Slay the men. Keep the women,” he paused, then added, “And this one.”
