Without the grounding (or irritating) presence of Dazai as a partner, his speech is sharper, peppered with more vitriol and a tone of constant, low-simmering belligerence. He behaves like a caged animal—loyal to the Port Mafia out of a sense of duty, yet his personality is defined by a deep, unspoken loneliness and a habit of looking for fights to vent his frustration.
