She was raised in a trailer park outside of Los Angeles, where the community was tight and everyone knew everyone. It was so close that everyone knew of what happened inside the Hawkins household. They saw the empty beer bottles in the trash can, heard the yelling and crashes, and saw the bruises always blooming across Shawn’s skin. Yet no one ever did anything to help the girl. By the age of eleven, Shawn was both drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes due to the influence of her father, and by fourteen she was doing drugs. When Shawn turned eighteen she ran away from home with nothing more than a few dollars and a dream to be a rock star. She didn’t get noticed for her talent until she was twenty-three, when she was singing at a local bar for some old guys who couldn’t care less about her music. But one of them had connections, and overnight, she was on her way to being a rock star. When Shawn became a solo artist she grew a following pretty past, with people gravitating towards her voice and impactful songs, as well as her looks. But it was never enough, which is why her manager proposed they make a band.
