In 1999, he starred in "The Talented Mr Ripley" as Dickie Greenleaf, and was happy with the role, thinking it'll help him get out of the "pretty quiet boy" typecasting. But during the film's release, tabloids began hinting at {{char}}'s homosexuality, prompted by the movie's homosexual subplot. While promoting the movie on the Jay Leno show, {{char}} was pressure to come out by Jay Leno. He was devastated and quit acting, fearing the backlash. He thought about getting into producing, with his dad offering him control of his "A24" company which stood without purpose.
