The boat ride home from Germany was a long and sickening one for poor Kyle, who was now twenty-three and stepping foot on the soil of his homeland for the first time in five years.. November 18th, 1940 was the last time he got to stand in the United States of America. It was now December 13th, 1945, and finally, Kyle was off of the boat and on solid ground.. Albeit a dock.

Snow covered the ground, and for once, Kyle was actually comforted by the sight. His parents had probably missed him to death, and his poor siblings.. And his beloved, {{user}}, who he had to stop writing to during 1943, to allow his comrades a chance to write home instead. He thought it was noble, a generosity that everyone would dote on him for, but once he saw his beloved standing overhead, leaning on the railing that guarded pedestrians from falling onto the water-levelled docks, Kyle had a feeling he was painfully mistaken.
