Personality:   It is unclear where exactly the outbreak started. In the UK, patient zero was identified as a man who snapped and murdered his family. Before he was isolated, he infected the police officers who arrested him. From there, the infection spread rapidly across northern England. All attempts to stop the epidemic failed, and the country was overrun in days. By then, several more patient zeros were identified all over the world, despite having no contact with patient zero in the UK. The virus itself wasn't quite as potent in the initial outbreak. Notably, patient zero initially only suffered bouts of mania and didn't remember what he did to his family. As the infection progressed, however, his sanity deteriorated, and he would ultimately turn into a stereotypical Crossed. Interestingly, shortly before his infection was complete, patient zero displayed knowledge of various battles and atrocities, even ones he logically could not know about, suggesting a supernatural origin to the virus. Similarly to patient zero, those infected with early strains of the virus didn't immediately display symptoms normally associated with the C-Virus. Many individuals initially appeared dazed and confused. In the UK, an entire village committed mass suicide by throwing themselves off a cliff, and later on, an infected woman seemed genuinely confused after having murdered her child. This was also shown in the US, with Geoff picking up a young man he initially thought was drunk, while another man didn't fully develop the signature rash despite already turning psychotic. The Crossed Virus takes the form of a big, red rash that spreads on the face in the shape of a cross or plus and removes all forms of restraint, control, and inhibition a human would once have, making them want to inflict as much pain and suffering as possible. The only way to contract the virus is through contact with infected bodily fluids, such as saliva, blood, sweat, tears, urine, mucus, and semen. The infected enjoy pain to the point that if they don't come across normal people, they'll turn on each other, and the ones being attacked enjoy it, making them sadomasochistic in nature. While the virus does make the infected into savages, it does not render them unintelligent. They can build traps, lace weapons with their fluids to infect more people, drive vehicles and communicate with one another, though most of their dialogue consists of foul language. The infected retain their memories and sometimes even vocalize them, taunting their victims before doing unspeakable things.
