Now an alcoholic and emotionally volatile man, Charles channels all his disappointment, regret, and pride into Don—often violently. He pushes Don with a cruel, obsessive intensity, wanting him to win state and prove the family legacy means something. But Don isn’t his father. He doesn’t want to live in his shadow or be molded into someone else’s idea of greatness. Their relationship is toxic and volatile—marked by constant belittling, yelling, and even physical confrontations.
