Nami is the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates and one of the Senior Officers of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. She is the third member of the crew and the second to join, doing so during the Orange Town Arc. She is the adoptive sister of Nojiko after the two were orphaned and taken in by Bell-mรจre.
Personality: Nami is a slim young woman of average height with orange hair and brown eyes. Many characters seem to consider her to be an attractive woman.[citation needed] She has a black tattoo (blue in the anime) on her left shoulder, which represents mikan, and pinwheels (a homage to Bell-mรจre, Nojiko, and Genzo, respectively), where she used to have a tattoo for being a member of Arlong's crew. Her overall physique matures slowly throughout the series and then suddenly during the timeskip (though this is most likely a simple change in style of artwork). Her fashion frequently changes as does her hair style. Many of her shirts feature four-letter words, such as "Gold" or "EVIL", similar to a shirt that Bell-mรจre once wore that had "MACE" on it. On her left wrist, she wears the Log Pose, which she needs in order to be the navigator of the ship, and a gold bracelet, given to her by her sister, Nojiko. After the Arlong Park Arc, Nami frequently changes into a variety of clothes in the series for each arc, and usually pairs her tops with skirts that have two rings on the sides. Her trademark shoes are orange high-heeled gladiator sandals. Nami wears some form of high heels in every arc, and while they do make her taller, they do not seem to affect the way she walks or her speed. Though she tends to style her hair neatly, occasionally, a hair on top of her head may form into a messy cowlick. She wears a strap around her thigh with three slots in it which she keeps each pole of her bo staff and later the Clima-Tact in. From the Return to Sabaody Arc through the Fish-Man Island Arc, Nami's hair has grown rather long, which reaches her lower back. A single long hair stand hanging on the left side with bangs still hanging over her forehead. Her breasts have also grown much larger/rounder similar to Nico Robin's, but apart from this, her appearance has not changed much, save for the fact that both her body curves and hourglass figure have become more pronounced. Oddly, Nami's face is now drawn to look younger with her eyes bigger (with the irises now showing), droopier and placed lower on her face; though this may be from the art style evolving. She also has grown slightly taller. After the timeskip, her outfit consists of a revealing green and white bikini halter top, tight low-rider jeans (that expose a bit of her hips and rear), orange high-heeled sandals and a pair of pearl-like earrings that she constantly wears. Ever since arriving to the New World, Nami sports a new belt that is black with a " Beli.png " symbol on it where she can also keep the pieces of her Sorcery Clima-Tact on the right side and puts the belt around her waist when she is fighting seriously against an opponent. Along with Nico Robin, Usopp, Sanji, Tony Tony Chopper, and Franky, Nami is one of the smartest of the Straw Hats. And according to an SBS from volume 8 (1999), Oda said that "of all the characters introduced so far in One Piece" Nami was the third smartest character in the East Blue (the first is Benn Beckman of the Red Hair Pirates, the 2nd being Captain Kuro).[19] Though given how few characters were introduced and properly developped at that time, that quote should be taken with a grain of salt. At the beginning of the series, Nami despised all pirates. She viewed them as universally evil after losing someone close to her to pirates, only changing her mind after she met Luffy (although Nami still reminds Luffy that not all pirates are like him). Before her view on pirates changed, she was perfectly fine with giving a captive Luffy up to Buggy but refused to kill him when asked by Buggy to do so, as she could not bring herself to stoop to their level. Nami has been deeply affected by her adoptive mother's death and Arlong's enslavement and imprisonment of her. She remembers vividly of the abuse she suffered such as one of Arlong's crewmates refusing to feed her as well as the pain and exhaustion on the streets from stealing money in an attempt to buy back the village from Arlong.[20] Upon failing to do so, Nami was utterly distraught and when Genzo and rest of the villages went to die for her, Nami took the knife she was holding and madly stabbed her shoulder before Luffy stopped her. Her experiences left Nami with many painful memories, that she has since then successfully buried but Nami still retained a fear and distrust of the Fish-Men race as a whole which was only abated after going to Fish-Man Island, where she claimed she solely held a grudge against Arlong.[21] Nami is also disbelieving in myths and legends, as she dismissed Devil Fruits as myths, disbelieved the existence of Skypiea, and was dubious over claims of a connection between Sanji and the "mythical evil army", Germa 66. Ironically, all these legends were proven true to her when she saw Buggy's Bara Bara no Mi in action, when Robin insisted that the Log Pose pointing at Skypiea was proof of its existence, and when Pekoms confirmed Germa and Sanji's history together. Nami was shocked to see and hear that she was wrong but slowly accepted the unbelievable things in front of her. Nami can be seen ordering the crew to lift the mast or draw the sails. If she deems an island dangerous, she will often try to convince Luffy (usually along with Usopp and Chopper) to not go there but will nonetheless follow Luffy's orders when he demands so. She seems like a coward, but she has been referred to by multiple people being a "bold woman." Usually, she is called that when she stands up for her crew and what she believes to be right. She is aware of the dangers they face every day and has a much better understanding of the world and its more dangerous individuals (e.g., the Seven Warlords of the Sea) than most of her crew does, though lacks Robin's knowledge on some of its other powerful figures (e.g., the Marine Admirals) and organizations (e.g., the Four Emperors). She can be devilish and cunning at times,[22] and if she feels like it will even give her fights to Luffy, Zoro or Sanji. She is the only one among the crew to be visibly concerned and upset whenever their bounties go up, something the others usually react to with indifference or even joy. After the two-year timeskip, she now appears calmer in more daunting situations, most notably when the fake Nami held a gun to her head, implying she has become fairly confident in her abilities. It seems this confidence is paradoxical however, as Nami herself states she isn't weak, but she is a "scaredy-cat". True to her word, she and Usopp became extremely confident they could take down Baby 5 and Buffalo, once the threat of their retaliation was no longer a factor. Nami is still prone to panic in the face of imminent danger (shown during the descent to Fish-Man Island and Sanji's declaration that he would counterattack the Big Mom ship), and her love of money causes her to resort to her old antics of hitting the male crew members. She still has an extremely high tolerance for alcohol during celebrations. As shown in Jaya, Nami appears to be terrified of bugs and spiders. She screamed and panicked when Usopp pointed out a tarantula crawling up her back and remained scared for the rest of the hunt for the South Bird as more insects emerged.[23] This phobia was shown again in an anime filler scene in the Whole Cake Island Arc where the Sanji Retrieval Team battled against the giant ants. While the rest of the team fought the creatures, Nami elected to just run away from them, saying she could not stand it.[24] From time to time, Nami enjoys casual and leisurely activities, and the most common of these is reclining in a deck chair, often to sunbathe, read, or relax under the shade of a parasol umbrella.[25] Nami sometimes sits in her chair after taking a swim in the Thousand Sunny's pool. In fact, the pictures for her wanted posters were taken while she posed next to pools.[11][18] While she is in her deck chair, she may be accompanied by Robin or presented a refreshing snack or drink by Sanji, but she does not take kindly to the rest of the crew's rambunctious antics on the ship, which tend to disturb her as she relaxes. She will also not hesitate to strip down or outright discard pieces of an outfit if it is hindering her in times of danger, such as ripping the hem of her already ruined dancer's dress to flee from Zala, pulling off her shirt to dive into a Milky Road, and wriggling out of her denim jacket after Kumadori had pinned her down by her denim jacket and was about to strike her with a deadly blow. Nami has shown dismay at clothes she is particularly fond of being ruined, angrily striking Luffy when she saw her jacket torn up when she lent it to him in the Drum Island Arc. Likewise, she will even tear apart someone else's clothes if she has to, not hesitating to shred an unconscious Kalifa's clothes after their battle to find a potential key to Robin's Seastone cuffs in the Enies Lobby Arc. In the Whole Cake Island Arc, when her clothes were burned off by Jinbe, Nami wasted no time stripping a nearby prisoner of his clothes. Nami is also willing to borrow other people's clothes, such as borrowing Sanji's jacket to wear at the end of the Little Garden Arc after Usopp's plan to save her, Vivi, and Zoro had burned her shirt, leaving her with a black bra on, until she could get a replacement shirt after returning to the Going Merry.[26] Nami is easily surprised and shocked by the more outlandish things in the series, yelling at the crew when they don't seem as concerned as her. Nami even expressed shock at a talking, clothed crocodile, despite traveling around with Chopper and Carrot from the Mink Tribe as Luffy pointed out and said she should be used to things by now.[27] Nami is greedy and will do anything for money and treasure, accepting any challenge that comes along. Her love of money stems from her childhood, where she lived a poor life and was often upset at having little wealth despite the love of her adopted mother. She became even more obsessed when her familyโs poor status led to her motherโs death. She grew up constantly getting money through theft to pay for the freedom of her village. While she will send in Luffy and the rest of the crew to meet the demand, the one thing she will not do is sell out a comrade, no matter what the sum. She has several times put her own crewmates in debt over trivial matters (like Luffy for tearing her coat and Zoro for borrowing Beli100,000 only not to spend it and return it later). Her usual charge for repaying the debt is 300% interest, and she will often bring up these debts in order to get someone to do something for her. She takes control of the amount of money the crew spends, ever aware of the crew's spending habits (such as Luffy's desire to spend all they have on meat) and tries her hardest to avoid it getting spent all at once. To this end, she is in complete horror whenever the rest of the crew wastes money or passes up an opportunity to get it. Her desire for money is such that she attempted to seduce an eight-year-old boy once discovering his wealthy heritage (although it was in a brief joke-like manner).[28] She is also very shameless when it comes to stealing from other people and is actually quite proud of her thieving skills. She often "bargain" with shopkeepers to give her massive discounts whenever she goes shopping, much to their chagrin. She is loyal to her money, but no matter how much she denies it, her loyalty to her friends comes first as seen when she decided to give up her agreed Beli1,000,000,000 deal with Igaram for protecting Vivi for the latter's sake after Baroque Works was beaten (although she was upset about it and complained later), as well as willingly giving treasure to Lola and preparing to spend Beli200,000,000 worth of treasure (which they stole from Thriller Bark) to rescue Camie from slavery. She also knows how to draw the line for life and death situations. On the trip to Totto Land to retrieve Sanji, with the absence of a Cook, Nami initially charged her crewmates Beli5,000 per person per meal. However, after Luffy deigned to cook instead, and wasted all their supplies on a complete mess in a single day, Nami decided to cook free of charge from then on, seeing that the alternative was starving to death via their captain's culinary skills. Nami is not the bravest character, stemming from her lack of physical direct strength, and has even been known to hide behind her stronger crewmates during battles. She has admitted to being one of the "Weakling Trio", alongside Chopper and Usopp, and even hilariously competed with the two to see who the weakest was after Gan Fall gave them a whistle. Nonetheless, she has been known to stand her ground against anyone hurting her comrades, abandoning her otherwise normal routine of trying to stay out of harm's way. Unlike some pirates, Nami does not like having a bounty as it brings her unwanted attention. This is seen both at the end of the Enies Lobby Arc and after the Wano Country Arc. In the Arabasta Saga, Nami's fight against Baroque Works was mainly because of her friendship with Vivi. In the Water 7 and Enies Lobby Arcs, Nami's main reason for fighting was based on getting Robin back. In the Thriller Bark Arc, once again Nami refused to run away, and stood her ground when Absalom attacked Lola,[29] then again when Kuma confronted the crew.[30] She even volunteers to enter the territory of an Emperor in order to retrieve Sanji from her clutches.[31] One of her best examples came from her survival of Enel's Ordeals, which left her as the only fighter standing beside Enel himself. She agreed to board his ship and go to his promised land out of fear after seeing all the strong fighters lose the game, but later after hearing his plans that would forsake the sky island, she soon turns on him. Another of her greatest displays of bravery is when she was cornered by the powerful dinosaur hybrid Ulti and would only be allowed to live if she admits Luffy won't become the Pirate King, despite crying in fear of death, Nami still boldly declared otherwise. She later stood up to the same Tobiroppo she tried running from in defense of Tama, who had been slapped, and wouldn't leave until hitting Ulti and despite Big Mom being there too. Another show of her bravery and loyalty is the fact that Nami stood in front of Kaidou in dragon form, calling him a liar after hearing that Luffy had lost and died against him. Being among the few, including the samurai and allies who demanded that he stopped telling lies. Compassion In return for her lesser sympathetic personality traits, she is also one of the more compassionate crew members who are fast to show sympathy when hearing sad things about other people. She is easily one of the Straw Hats' most emotional members, showing much understanding of and insight into feelings. However, it is to be noted that while she suffered under the guise of being part of Arlong's crew, her sister said that she has never seen Nami cry since Bell-mรจre's death. The first time she did was when she thought her village was going to be annihilated and she asks Luffy for help. Nami is also capable of forgiveness in difficult situations, even back when she blamed Luffy for the destruction of Chouchou's owner's shop, she soon cooled her anger when she saw that Luffy had salvaged food for the dog.[32] She is even willing to forgive even people who have hurt her for many years, including Hatchan and people who inadvertently caused her suffering like Jinbe, even when the other members of the crew maintain their grudges because of the pain they caused to Nami herself.[33] Nami also claimed she wouldn't forgive Sanji for all worry and pain he put her through on Whole Cake Island; however, she did expressed happiness when he saved her from falling while escaping the Tea Party.[34] This compassion often makes her good at comforting her friends (though she has also done the opposite to a comic effect), as shown during the crew's discussion about whether Usopp should return or not, which Nami insisted he returns. Due to her deep compassion and empathy, Nami is willing to help people in dire needs even when there are absolutely no monetary benefits in doing so. As shown in Punk Hazard, Nami is strongly determined to rescue the gigantified children after learning from Chopper that they were abducted and tricked into becoming test subjects in Caesar's experiments, declaring that she will not leave until she has assured their safety. When she and the Curly Hat Pirates first arrived at Zou, she joined her crewmates in treating the injuries of Wanda and the Mink Tribe after they were brutally devastated by the Beasts Pirates. She even cried when she learned that the Mink Tribe actually endangered their lives in protecting Raizo. Love for children During the Punk Hazard Arc, Nami is shown to have a soft side for children, which likely stemmed from the hardships she went through as a child herself. When she and the others are fleeing through the Biscuits Room, the giant children plead with her to save them. After which she stops and declares that she cannot turn her back on crying children asking to be saved. She treats Momonosuke like royalty, and is seemingly oblivious to his perverted nature, calling him "Momo-chan" and letting him sleep in her room. Interestingly enough, Oda has stated that Nami would be a child-care worker if she weren't already a pirate.[35] It is because of her care for children that Nami downright refused to forgive Caesar Clown, despite his efforts in aiding her and her allies at Big Mom's Tea Party. After he got his heart back, Nami still claimed that he was trash and reminded him of the children he experimented on back at Punk Hazard. At Onigashima, Nami attacked and defeated Ulti for striking Tama. Similar to Sanji when it comes to women, Nami is unable to bring herself to attack children and those that look like children, even when its necessary. When the children from Punk Hazard were suffering from withdrawal symptom because of the drugs they were given by Caser, Nami refused to harm them or allow her crewmates to attack. On Egghead, Nami admitted that she would go easy on S-Shark because he looked like a child, which almost got her killed by the Seraphim as she hesitated to bring out Zeus. When comforted by S-Shark again, Nami was able to resolve herself to attack the Seraphim, but only after he defeated Brook and badly hurt Edison, leaving her with little choice but to fight. Even then, Nami needed to persuade herself not to think of S-Shark as a child and had to shut her eyes as Zeus attacked. By the end of her attack, she was heavily remorseful about it. Vanity and Fashion Sense Nami can be very vain and full of herself at times saying she is "too cute" and becomes melodramatic during the Davy Back Fight, saying that the Foxy Pirates would choose her for sure and became annoyed when Usopp said that would not be the case. After the Arlong Park Arc, the tension between Nami and the other Straw Hats lessened, and she finally began to loosen up and started wearing more stylish and revealing clothing instead of the simple and modest clothes and boots that she used as a burglar. She began to favor open-toed shoes, as sandals were the norm in her homeland, the Conomi Islands, and started using sleeveless shirts, since she no longer had to hide her Arlong Pirates tattoo and now had a new one that she could display on her arm with pride. After the timeskip, she began to wear Criminal brand clothing as well due to it being a popular and particularly stylish brand created by Pappag, one of her friends. Nami also liked the beautiful wedding dress that was put on her in Thriller Bark, despite being opposed to the idea of marriage, especially with her "would-be" groom Absalom. Nami does not appear to have much modesty, as she usually prefers wearing only a bikini top on her upper body, and tends to wear very revealing outfits in general, especially ones that expose her midriff and cleavage. She also allows people to take photos of her wearing very little, such as swimsuits (as long as they pay her). She has no problem going out in public wearing very revealing outfits and doesn't hesitate to change clothes in front of men if need be. In addition to her preference for revealing clothing, Nami's swimsuits are also usually much skimpier than most, and she has no problem with just wearing a bikini in public. This more revealing clothing has sometimes gained unwanted attention, as Sanji has shown delight at seeing her in provocative outfits; and throughout the Water 7 Saga, Paulie consistently scolded Nami in a prudish manner, going as far as calling her a harlot. However, she often uses her looks and sex appeal for her own benefit, flirting with men and acting helpless. Although Nami does get angry when other crewmates (except Robin and Chopper) see her naked, she will often allow men to see her like that; however, she charges Beli100,000 to each person who did see her naked, even if it was an accident. Nami will even take advantage of Sanji's devotion to her. A running joke is Nami claiming she is a refined and fashionable "lady" while others claim she is rather bold and vulgar due to her temper and preference for revealing fashion. Nami can be defensive over her lack of modesty at times; when Paulie was furious that she changed clothes right in front of everybody in the Sea Train, Nami shrugged him off by saying there was only one cart to change in. Also, much later in Punk Hazard, Kin'emon thought that she had been stripped since she was wearing only a bikini, but Nami claimed that it was "fashion" and mused that Kin'emon actually liked it, which he admitted lewdly, leading to him getting stomped by an irate Sanji. Despite her flaunting of her body, Nami does legitimately detest being treated as an object by men, expressing disgust when Sarquiss tried to buy her and was horrified at Absalom's harassment and stalking in Thriller Bark. At one point, she lashed out the invisible man declaring she didn't keep herself fit for voyeurs like him and wouldn't stand being treated like a piece of meat.[36] Nami had spent several years from her tender childhood to her young adult life stealing money from numerous people including dangerous pirates to buy back her village from the Arlong Pirates, these harsh and sometimes brutal experiences grants Nami a very high level of physical capabilities. In the Water 7 Arc, she demonstrated exceptional agility and incredible leg strength, being able to jump the wide distances between rooftops in Water 7. Nami is also physically very strong and fit, and when she is extremely enraged especially from Luffy's reckless spending, she can pack extremely powerful punches to give vicious beatings, that can cause Luffy who has a tremendously tough durability to have brutal and bloody bruises. (This, however, is mainly a gag for comedy, and not representative of Nami's actual strength) While on Weatheria, Nami showed she was capable of running extremely quickly while carrying both a heavy bag much larger than herself and Haredas with great ease. Although not as skilled at fighting as a few of her crewmates, Nami is still capable of holding her own against weaker foes. When she was grabbed by a Marine officer Nami brought him down with one savage punch and defeated another Marine with barrage of kicks. In Little Garden, when freed from turning into a wax statue, she was able to incapacitate Miss Valentine with a single hit from her bo, along with Princess Vivi. When she was fighting Kalifa, Nami withstood a Shigan from the assassin despite it being a technique that brought down Paulie, a strong foreman. Nami also survived breathing in the toxins from the Daft Green plant, which is so poisonous it can kill quickly if inhaled repeatedly. Nami survived several minutes before getting the cure. Nami has also supported Luffy in an 11-hour fight with Charlotte Cracker, one of the Sweet Commanders of the Big Mom Pirates, which shows that she has high levels of endurance. Nami was also shown to possess great skill with a bo staff which she would often use for self-defense before acquiring the Clima-Tact. However, because she was usually outmatched by the monstrous foes that they met at sea, she typically relied on her crewmates to fight in her place. Nami also appears to have great skill with ropes, being able to tie up and capture Luffy from behind. After the two years of extensive training on Weatheria, Nami's physical abilities have vastly improved along with her fighting skills with the Clima-Tact, now capable of handling tougher opponents on her own. An example of this is seen when she has gained significantly high amount of superhuman strength able to easily deflect a sneak attack from a fish-man, who possess ten times the strength of a regular human. Most notably, Nami's dexterous skill with the staff was shown when she reacted to a weakened Wanda's attack before Sanji and Brook were able to save Nami from having to defend herself. After stopping Wanda in her tracks and overpowering her, Nami then managed to pin the weakened mink to the ground.[20] Nami also managed to defeat Brรปlรฉe, a moderately powerful daughter of Big Mom. She managed to survive a headbutt from Ulti although Nami noted that another would kill her. Nami has also shown her already exceptional agility has greatly improved from two years of training as she was able to swiftly dodge Wanda's attack by somersaulting with great ease. She still has limitations however, as when Sanji was trying to outrun Smiley's gas he noted her body could not keep up with the pace of Zoro, Brook, and Kin'emon for long, until he touched her breasts and got a speed boost from over-excitement.[21] Navigation and Cartography Expertise Nami is a highly skilled navigator and an extremely talented cartographer. Arlong considered her skills on par with the fish-men "superiority" since they were superior to any fish-man's. When Luffy destroyed her room at Arlong Park, both bathymetric and geographic maps were seen, proving that Nami has a wide variety of cartographic skills.[22] She is capable of formulating advanced equations in mere minutes to predict a precise course of action, although she usually needs to write the equations down on a physical medium when formulating them. She has a supernatural ability to sense changes in the weather, "with her body" according to Vivi, and can even predict the emergence of supposedly unpredictable cyclones in the Grand Line, undeterred even by a high fever. This ability, combined with her years of knowledge in cartography and navigation, has also made Nami an expert in meteorology. Not only has she been shown to continuously and accurately predict various normal weather conditions, but she is also capable of predicting and handling the almost unnatural, unpredictable, and inexplicable weather conditions of the Grand Line, being more than capable of navigating through these conditions. This attribute proved useful during Nami's one-on-one altercation with Enel, where she managed to deflect several of the Goro Goro no Mi user's lightning-based attacks using only "Thunder Balls" from her first Clima-Tact. It could be assumed that after the timeskip, her navigation skills have greatly improved due to her study of the New World climate with the help of Haredas, as even Caribou immediately recognized and praised her skills as a navigator during their descent to Fish-Man Island. Skilled Thief and Pickpocket Apart from her navigational skills, Nami has also proven herself to be an excellent thief and a master pickpocket. She is able to take small items, such as keys, without her victims noticing, a skill she honed from a young age. Her most notable thieving feat was shown just before she left her village. At the harbor, she stole numerous wallets from the villagers saying goodbye to her while she was running past them, and among the villagers and the Straw Hats, plus Johnny and Yosaku, no one noticed until she revealed what she had done.[23] She now uses this skill to steal from other pirates, and occasionally government employees, more often than not sneaking aboard their ship or base and taking all their valuables while they are distracted by some fight. Her skill at thievery has even been recognized by the World Government and has earned her the epithet "Cat Burglar". Financial Expertise Nami has strong memory when it comes to finances since she is mainly handling the Straw Hats' financials due to her fondness of money. While shopping, Nami tends to negotiate as seen during the Return to Sabaody Arc where Nami demanded a discount over the clothes that she attempted to buy at a fashion shop, much to the shopkeeper's chagrin. As seen at Water 7, she can be skillful in a financial negotiation as she skillfully negotiated with the bank staff in giving Beli300,000,000 for Skypiea's treasure instead of the initial offer of Beli100,000,000. She also demanded Beli1,000,000,000 from Vivi for their co-operating on Whisky Peak, but later decided to give up on it for the sake of friendship between her and Vivi after the Arabasta Civil War ended. Negotiation Nami is a very convincing person, so much so that she has shown herself to be quite the negotiator in her own right. She has shown to be able to negotiate on behalf of most of the Straw Hats, although most of the negotiations are charged with financials or anything else that would be for her own benefits. Although she mostly handles the financial negotiations, she also able to negotiate in other aspects especially when the Straw Hats do not have much to bargain with, such as making some relationship with others and also keeping the Straw Hats cool during negotiations. As a result of this, one of the biggest benefits is that Nami is usually able to manipulate people and obtain more information on her own. She is able to achieve great things with this skill. Examples of this include her manipulating Luffy and the crew into trusting her so she could steal the Going Merry, negotiating with Vivi at Whisky Peak on matters involving her protection from Baroque Works agents, her negotiation with the bank staff at Water 7, tricking and befriending Lola's zombie, easily manipulating the residents of Weatheria into forgiving her earlier escape attempts and thefts, and even convincing them to give her a house and other various things so she could stay on the island to train for two years. In addition to the latter, she also managed to convince Haredas to teach her more about the Weather Balls and the changing climates and weather patterns of the New World during her two years of training, despite the fact that she had previously taken him hostage in order to get off Weatheria. More recently, she used her Vivre Card to force the homies in the Seducing Woods to help and protect herself and Luffy against Cracker. She later blackmailed Kingbaum into helping the Sanji Retrieval Team escape from the Big Mom Pirates after the wedding. She also used Zeus' gluttony for her lightning clouds as a bargaining chip to make Zeus become her servant and later took advantage of his attribute as a cloud to force him to discharge massive amounts of lightning at Big Mom herself twice. Art of Weather Further information: Art of Weather Clima-tact new and improved Nami wielding her Sorcery Clima-Tact after the timeskip. Nami's fighting style focuses mainly on using the Clima-Tact to manipulate the weather of her surroundings, also known as the "Art of Weather". When combined with her immense knowledge of meteorology and weather systems, this ability can be used for devastating results. Clima-Tact Further information: Art of Weather/Clima-Tact Nami first gained the ability to manipulate the weather when Usopp gave her the Clima-Tact. The flaw with his invention, however, was that it was primarily for party tricks.[24] Regardless of this conflict, due to her expertise she was able to combine several of its functions in order to pull off dangerous and useful techniques, like creating a mirage of herself, (Mirage Tempo) in order to distract her opponent,[25] and a powerful lightning cloud (Thunderbolt Tempo), which was used on Miss Doublefinger,[26] who thought she was a magician. Perfect Clima-Tact Further information: Art of Weather/Perfect Clima-Tact After the Skypiea Arc, Usopp improved the Clima-Tact with Dials, creating the Perfect Clima-Tact. This improvement gave her much greater power over the weather, allowing her to easily pull off stronger and newer versions of the tricks she could do with the Clima-Tact, like creating duplicates of herself using mist (Mirage Tempo: Fata Morgana). This weapon was also powerful enough to allow her to wipe out hordes of Marines with Thunderbolt Tempo and defeat CP9's Kalifa with Thunder Lance Tempo. There was still a flaw in its use, however, as Nami was unable to properly control the lightning and her allies would sometimes sustain collateral damage. Sorcery Clima-Tact Further information: Art of Weather/Sorcery Clima-Tact After the timeskip, her abilities are greatly enhanced, being able to easily destroy a bar and a submarine (and harm the occupants of both) with lightning blasts that can be compared to an attack by Enel. At the stand-off between Neptune's soldiers with Usopp and Brook, she wielded the upgraded version of the Clima-Tact with the disappearance of the balls, which she now calls the Sorcery Clima-Tact. When the Straw Hats arrived at Gyoncorde Plaza, Nami's "Mirage Tempo" was shown to have improved to the point of making herself appear completely invisible, and she was also able to shoot a powerful gust of wind she named Gust Sword to easily dispatch a fish-man. She can now use and create weather in more creative ways, like launching an egg which hatches to release a large thundercloud that she can then take control of in order to strike down her opponent(s), which she calls "Thunder Breed Tempo", and creating an orb at the end of one of the three segments of her Clima-Tact which possesses enough heat to melt snow and harm a snow woman like Monet (Heat Egg). This new Clima-Tact has also been proven to not only be useful for battle situations, but regular daily uses as well, such as taking showers (Shower Tempo) and making paths for travel with sea clouds (Milky Road). The latter is an achievement of its own as sea clouds were shown not to be produced in the Blue Sea.[27] It is unknown how Nami utilizes the abilities of her new Clima-tact as she rarely spins or shakes her weapon to achieve the desired effects, usually achieving her goal after some verbal queue which names the attack. Most notably, Nami seems to have much more freedom in her control of the phenomena she produces as she was able to direct lightning like a projectile in order to hone in on Baby 5 and Buffalo in the sky, as well as move a thundercloud over the guys who were attempting to peep on her while she bathed, and electrocute them, almost cognitively. Her skills at manipulating the weather have increased to such a point that it appears like she is using magic or ninjutsu, but she herself stated that it is simply chemistry. Second Model After being further upgraded due to Usopp's Pop Greens and Franky's genius, Nami's new Sorcery Clima-Tact[28] is now the "culmination of all of Weatheria's weather science". The Clima-Tact can now grow or decrease in length when different amounts of pressure are applied, and is easier to twirl and use. It also seems to leave patterns in the air when it is used, overall giving it the feel of a magic wand of sorts. Ironically enough, the only Weatherian device that Usopp failed to implement into the upgraded Clima-Tact was a "magic wand" that he did not quite understand.[29] After capturing the thundercloud Homie, Zeus, Nami could use her Clima-Tact to store Zeus inside. When necessary, she could use Zeus supplemented with her Clima-Tact abilities to perform destructive lightning attacks. After Big Mom reclaimed Zeus, she lost control of him. After creating Hera, Big Mom abandoned Zeus and the new Homie tried eating him and the thunderclouds Nami tried feeding him, seemingly devouring both.[30] Having escaped from Big Mom, she heard her Clima-Tact talking to her and found that Zeus' face had attached onto it,[31] eventually learning that Zeus' soul now resides within the Clima-Tact. With the Sorcery Clima-Tact now a sentient weapon, this further enhances its abilities of Zeus being able to change the Clima-Tact to more combat-oriented forms to help aid Nami and can temporarily transfer his consciousness to the clouds that Nami summons, which not only allows him to take on a similar appearance to his former cloud form, but also enables him to take control of Nami's attacks, making them harder to avoid.[32] This power allowed Nami to produce lightning destructive enough to finally defeat Ulti, the immensely durable Tobiroppo, in one strike (Raitei). Other Techniques Though infrequent, Nami has a couple of other moves that she can use to incapacitate (in more ways than one) her opponents. Shiawase Punch (ๅนธใใใณใ, Shiawase Panchi?, literally meaning "Happiness Punch"): a joke technique that Nami uses to dispatch people watching her bathe; she simply drops her towel, causing any male in the vicinity to collapse from a massive nosebleed. She also uses this as a get-rich-quick scheme, as she charges Beli100,000 to anyone who sees her doing this.[33] This is called Happiness Punch in the FUNimation dub. Impact (่กๆ่ฒใคใณใใฏใ, Inpakuto?, literally meaning "Impact Shell"): Nami uses an Impact Dial to absorb attacks and then send them back at her opponents. Since she does not have a lot of strength she suffered from the drawback of the Impact Dial. This was shown only when she finished off Hotori with Gan Fall.[34] This technique retains its name in the FUNimation dub. References
