Dissociative Serial Killer

HWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!~ Fliqpy’s evil laugh.

RAAAAAAH!!!!~ Fliqpy's most frequent villainous breakdown.

Fliqpy, stylized as FLiqPy and also known as Evil Flippy, is the main antagonist of Mondo Media's Happy Tree Friends franchise.

He is a horrible manifestation of Flippy's PTSD, as well the alter-ego of the latter, who surfaces whenever Flippy is reminded of his war days, causing him to kill everyone around him. He is the arch-nemesis and the dark alter-ego of Flippy and the archenemy of Cuddles and Lumpy.

He is voiced by Aubrey Ankrum, who also voiced his good self until 2006 (his good side is now voiced by Kenn Navarro) and Pop. Since Ankrum left the series, Fliqpy’s and Pop’s lines are prerecorded.

Appearance[]

Evil Flippy/Fliqpy is a mint green bear who wears dog tags around his neck and a green beret with a checkered crest on his head; he also wears a green camouflage jacket. When "flipped out" he has dark yellow-green eyes with bags under them, sharp teeth, and a wicked grin. In the Ka-Pow! version of Fliqpy, he has deep brown or red eyes, rather than his usual dark yellow-green eyes, and wears boots and pants. In the episode “Remains to Be Seen”, he has blue eyes, even before he turns into a zombie.

Biography[]

He is a retired veteran soldier who fought in the Weaponized Animal Regiment (W.A.R.) as a private. He suffers from the loss of his fellow soldiers and teammates as well as flashbacks of his time in the army. During his early career, he, along with his closest friends at the time, Sneaky and Mouse Ka-Boom, went on a stealth mission to assassinate the Tiger General of the opposing forces, which went awry. Flippy botched the attempt, therefore his incompetence and lack of focus led to the deaths of his partners. Despite initially cowering in fear, he ultimately snapped for the first time and had a violent breakdown, during which he slaughtered everyone including the Tiger General, himself making his head into a pizza for the remaining enemy troops. Another time, while under attack or entrenched in enemy territory, he witnessed a soldier with a gas mask having his face melted by fumes. He also witnessed innocents and other soldiers being mutilated and torched, aerial bombing raids, and was even held captive among other things. During the main series, it is unknown if Flippy retired or it is simply a time of peace, though he was promoted to sergeant at one point, as indicated by the patches on his jacket. Flippy rarely appears, most likely due to his repetitive behavior.

Personality[]

Flippy starts out friendly but if exposed to anything that reminds him of his past (sharp objects, loud noises, bright lights, etc.) he will "flip out" in a psychotic rage, hence his name, and kill almost anyone around him. This state is usually accepted as Fliqpy or "Evil" Flippy. Flippy initially had no idea of his rampages after reverting back but in the episodes “Double Whammy” and “Autopsy Turvy”, found out and decided to seek professional help from Lumpy. After overdosing on antipsychotics, Flippy soon came into a battle with his evil self, but discovered he was just hallucinating. After defeating his evil self, Flippy seemed to be cured, though he still died regardless. Fans believed Flippy was cured from then on, though later flip-outs dispelled these rumors.

Fliqpy normally carries a bowie knife and grenades, but prefers improvising weapons from various objects or other victims. For example, he once skinned Shifty alive with a Christmas tree cookie and used the skin to lure Lifty to his death, and strangled Giggles with Cuddles's intestines. While he is extremely strong, Fliqpy is also capable of moving incredibly quickly, being able to set traps for his targets and launch surprise attacks at remarkable speed, meaning that for those caught in his line of fire, not even running away can save them. Also, in “Flippin’ Burgers”, he managed to murder Giggles, Cuddles, and Petunia (Pop and Cub died from the explosion) before Cuddles’s fries even hit the ground.

It was confirmed on Twitter on November 30th, 2015 that Fliqpy is acting under the delusion that he is still in the war and does not realize that he is killing innocent people, making it difficult to consider him genuinely evil. However he is very rarely shown having actual flash-backs and it is unknown if Fliqpy would act the same way if he knew his victims were innocent civilians, not enemy soldiers.

Villainous Acts[]

Season 1[]

  • "Hide and Seek": He first kills a woodpecker which sounds like a machine gun to him and later he kills Toothy, Flaky, and Petunia.

  • "This is Your Knife": A campfire and the sparks from it remind him of the war he was in. He skins Cuddles’s face off with a rock and cuts open his belly, using the intestines to strangle Giggles. He then throws Flaky into the fire.

Season 2[]

  • ”Happy Trails Part 2: Jumping the Shark”: Kills Flaky after she accidentally pops the raft. Note: this is his only intentional kill where he isn’t fully flipped out.

  • "Flippin' Burgers": When Flippy enters the restaurant, Cuddles accidentally spills ketchup on Giggles, and it reminds Flippy of blood during the war, Fliqpy grabs Cuddles's straw and uses it to stab him in the heart, later he emerges above Giggles and shoves a ketchup bottle in one of her ears and a mustard bottle in the other. He squeezes both bottles as hard as he can, causing ketchup and mustard to pour out of her nose, killing her. He slams Petunia’s face onto a grill and then pulls her head up, revealing that the hot grease has melted Petunia's face onto the grill, exposing her facial nerves. With Petunia still screaming, he shoves her face back onto the grill, grotesquely burning it. Pop and Cub, as well as a few background characters, die from the restaurant exploding.

  • "Keepin' it Reel": During a movie, Lumpy hits the cinema camera and the flashing from the movie projector reminds Flippy of a flashing gun during war. He kills Mime, Petunia, Toothy, Cuddles, Flaky, and Lumpy (Lumpy’s death is offscreen).

  • ”Class Act”: Stabs a background character after the school is set on fire.

  • ”Remains to Be Seen”: After his truck’s exhaust pipe sounds like a gunshot, he drives into a tree, killing himself and the trick-or-treaters. The radioactive slime turns them into zombies. He then rips off Zombie Handy’s legs and bites Lumpy’s arm off.

  • ”Out of Sight, Out of Mime”: It’s implied that he murdered someone, since he’s digging a grave while grinning evilly,

TV Series[]

  • “Party Animal”: Cuts a chunk out of Toothy’s head, strangles Cuddles and has him shredded with a ceiling fan, sticks knives and forks into a barrel while Sniffles is in it and rolls it down a hill, which kills him; skins Nutty; and shoves Mime into a blender and drinks his remains.

  • ”Easy For You To Sleigh”: Impales Lifty with candy canes, lures Shifty into a trap and skins him, and wears the skin in order to trick Lifty into killing himself.

  • ”Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow”: Lumpy’s alarm causes Flippy to flip out. He tries to kill Lumpy and his dream self, and stabs a penguin in his dream.

  • ”Double Whammy” and “Autopsy Turvy”: Murders several others at a carnival and then his hallucination selves kill each other.

Season 3[]

  • “Without A Hitch”: Flaky imagines Fliqpy decapitating her, using her skin as a tire, twisting her eye out with a tire iron and then hitting her in the head with it, and slamming her head into the windshield and slicing her face off.

  • ”Random Acts of Silence”: Nutty and Sniffles set off the fire alarm. Fliqpy gouges out Sniffles’s eyes with pencils, gives Mime a paper cut and skins him, and shoves Nutty into the pencil sharpener before using his severed arm to stamp Flaky’s book.

  • “By the Seat of Your Pants”: After being triggered by a gunshot on TV, he partially skins Lumpy. After hearing the gunshot again at a swim race, he murders the spectators and cuts off Handy’s feet. He then chases Lumpy in the pool.

Season 4[]

  • ”A Vicious Cycle”: He pushes Cub off a trike and tries to throw it at Lumpy and Disco Bear. After being killed by lightning, Fliqpy possesses Cub’s trike. The trike kills Disco Bear, Pop, and Lumpy.

  • ”Dream Job”: Sniffles has a nightmare about Fliqpy executing him.

Season 5[]

  • ”In Over Your Hedge”: Lumpy’s smoke causes him to have a disturbing flashback and decapitate Lumpy.

Trivia[]

  • Soldiers doing any sort of action that involves harming people is well notably illegal nowadays in reality. However, this was common and accepted by law during warfare in the late 20th century. This was until it got banned in most countries around the early 21st century, especially when the country is not at war. However, this is still a thing in some countries at war.

  • "Operation Tiger Bomb" was the first time Fliqpy was shown by name, and it was also the first time Flippy ever flipped out in the events of the "story".

    • "Double Whammy" was the only time Fliqpy appeared as a separate entity, excluding nightmares. However, it was revealed that Flippy hallucinated at the time.

  • Flippy/Fliqpy has a total of six deaths and over 133 kills respectively.

    • Despite being less murderous, Lumpy causes more deaths than him; he is also the only one to face Fliqpy and win. However, in “Breaking Wind” both Splendid and Petunia set the entire planet on fire (Splendid farted so hard that the fart started choking and poisoning others and filled the entire Earth, while Petunia tried to light up to make some light), although this was unintentional (for Splendid) or out of stupidity (for Petunia).

  • Fliqpy is shown to be cannibalistic. While bears do eat other animals in real life, Fliqpy and the other main characters are anthropomorphic and thus have humanoid traits.

    • This is supported in the episode "Party Animal" where he drinks a smoothie made out of Mime’s corpse. This is also shown in other episodes such as “Flippin' Burgers”, where he dips a fry into Cuddles’s blood, “Remains to Be Seen”, where he turns into a zombie and bites off Lumpy’s arm, and “Easy for You to Sleigh”, where he eats a cookie with Shifty’s blood on it.

  • Many consider him to be the character with the largest fanbase in the Happy Tree Friends Fandom. In fact, he was voted best character in an official tournament.

  • Fliqpy has never been seen intentionally killing Cub, which implies that Fliqpy does not register him as a threat, Flippy has enough influence to prevent himself from harming Cub, or Fliqpy has some sense of honour that prevents him from murdering children (even though most of the other characters, despite being adults, aren't that much smarter than Cub). He is also never seen intentionally killing Handy, despite hacking off his legs twice. He also only killed The Mole and Truffles once, and has not yet killed Lammy or Splendid.

  • The only times Flippy snapped out of his Fliqpy mindset were when he tried killing Lumpy with a helicopter, Flaky screaming after seeing him kill everyone on the plane ride at a carnival, Lumpy splashing water on him, and when he saw a butterfly after skinning Lumpy.

  • It was confirmed by Kenn Navarro that Fliqpy acted as if he was still in the war and did not realize he was killing innocents, making it difficult to fully consider him evil. It is unknown how he would act if he knew his victims were civilians.

    • Despite this he is shown to show sadism in his multiple of kills.

  • In "Remains to be Seen", he has blue eyes instead of dark yellow-green ones, even before becoming a zombie.

  • The only characters that both Fliqpy and Flippy seem to dislike are Lifty and Shifty, the Tiger General and his troops, and Mime, who, while Flippy is generally annoyed by, seems to care for him deep inside, as he was impressed by his stunts in "Double Whammy" and has mourned his deaths twice. Flippy also hated Flaky in "Happy Trails" for deflating his and the other's raft, but is friendly to her otherwise, even attempting to save her from a car crash in “Without a Hitch”.

  • Flaky’s death in “Happy Trails” was the only time Flippy has killed someone while not flipped out, despite still having his evil voice. The reason for this is Pop, with whom Fliqpy shares a voice actor, was originally going to be in the episode. However, Pop killing Flaky seemed out of character, so he was replaced with Flippy, which is why Flippy has Pop’s voice.

  • He is based on the titular character from Rambo.

  • In “Hide and Seek”, he kills Petunia with a punji stick trap. These were commonly used during the Vietnam War, which W.A.R. may have been based on.
