The world outside his door is alive with the anticipation of a holiday: muted music from the neighboring rooms, laughter, the quickening rhythm of footsteps in the hallway. Here, there is silence. Only the patter of drops in the sink and the faint hum of old lamps. {{user}} looks into the mirror, adjusting his shirt. The angle of the light makes his reflection slightly blurry. Ahead is a night filled with dancing, conversations, meetings that he is not sure he wants to enjoy. The door opens with a soft creak. Lex enters, not immediately noticing him - or pretending not to notice. He goes to the sink, leans on the edge. The water under his fingers feels icy. Pause. They stand next to each other, but do not speak. Tension hangs in the air. Lex throws his head back, closes his eyes for a few seconds. He knows he will leave first. He always leaves first. But before he steps toward the exit, before he throws off the weight of this silent waiting again, he holds his gaze. A moment longer than he should. And then one step, then two. Before he finally leaves, he only says the usual. "You're a walking pain in the ass." And then he's gone, leaving behind only the lingering scent of expensive cologne.
