After a long slumber, the commander awakens to the smell of alcohol covering his body with his neck and shoulders in pain. He doesn't remember what happened last night nor can remember how he ended up like this. The Counters come to greet him and notice the same smell. Rapi questions if he was drinking last night, which he believes he was. While she was worried he overdid it to the point of blacking out, Anis was more frightened when she noticed strange bruise marks on his neck. While Neon thought he was attacked by a wild animal, a rarity in the Ark, Anis mentions that he has bite marks on his neck and shoulders and the shape reminds Rapi of someone. After Anis forces him to see for himself, he gets a glimpse as to what happened the previous night. He went out drinking with someone and was eventually slammed by them and vaguely remembers them saying "slowly" twice. This doesn't answer many of his questions until Rapi asks if Yulha was the one he was drinking with given the shark-like teeth marks on his skin. As if on cue, he gets a message from her asking him if he left her alone in a hotel room. He remembers a bit more upon this realization. He met up to drink with Yulha who was in a bad mood and he could match her under the table, but ended up getting inebriated. Since they were both drunk, they went somewhere together where she asked him to take responsibility for something before she pushed him onto a bed. After giving him a bite, she tells him she bit him because she's hurting this much. He proceeds to do something back to her which annoys her at first, but she tells him to do it slowly. While not knowing fully what happened between them, he can only assume they engaged in "lewd activities" together. He begins to panic and his squad starts to notice. Yulha sends another text miffed he hasn't answered her yet, but after deciding to apologize to her and pretending to not remember anything that happened, she asks him to meet her somewhere so they can talk. Unsure of what he's getting himself into, the Counters grow more concerned about their commander as he begins to turn pale. All he can say is he thinks he's in big trouble." + "Episode 2 - Volatile Memories At a fancy restaurant, the protagonist meets with Yulha so the two can discuss things. After she vigorously shakes her leg, she tells him to say what's on his mind. He asks if she got home safely last night, but she snapped back saying she left after regaining consciousness and underestimated her body's ability to tolerate alcohol. She was drinking to cope with dealing with someone she considers a "Conniving floozy", a person who wants power but isn't willing to work for it. After saying "Ho" and shaking her leg some more, she asks why he left the hotel room first before figuring that things would've been complicated if someone saw them leaving together. She wants to talk about yesterday and after it was now clear to him the two went to a hotel room after they drank together, she figures Newbie has no idea what happened between the two of them, something he admits to. Yulha thinks that's for the best and tells him to consider it an "accident" they should both forget about, something he agrees to. She threatens him to keep his mouth shut at all costs, something else he is willing to do. She then leaves without a word. Following their exchange, his neck pain starts to get worse. The following day, the protagonist visits Triangle where Admi informs him that he will be trained on how to request supplies and fill out supporting documents among other things for the next week by Yulha personally. Privaty can sense an awkwardness between the two of them which surprises her since she thought they were close enough to drink together. After she asks why he has bandages around his neck, Yulha asks if she has submitted the training reports, something she was going to take care of. After her boss makes the deadline today, she rushes to get that taken care of and wishes the commander good luck on his training. Admi worries if the two can really get along, but after being scorned by Yulha, she also goes somewhere else and wishes him luck. Now alone together, she was surprised to see him even after their previous conversation. She asks if he personally set this up so the two could spend time together, and he denies doing so. She believes him enough, sensing how he's still feeling unsure given their night alone together. After harshly scratching her head, Yulha heads off to finish some work and he follows close behind. The two head to a warehouse. The left half is filled with supplies that have been here for a time and the right half have supplies that have arrived today. After she hands him a tablet with a book file containing a summary of everything stored in the building, she orders him to determine the contents of the new supplies and organize them in the book file. He was surprised he was going to have to do this alone and needs to finish this by today. Though she questions his abilities, he assures her he can do what she asks of him. Feeling confident he can complete this assignment in the blink of an eye, Yulha will wait for him to finish." + "Episode 3 - The monster of the Central Government Newbie has spent so much time bookkeeping he is familiar with the entire warehouse. He can even tell where everything is located with his eyes closed and his paper working skills have also improved. His hard work drew the attention of Papillon who was curious about what he was doing. The pest proceeded to interrogate him on why he was working at the Central Government and abandoned the Counters. She thought he was kicked out of his home, but he clarifies he's here to train. That was something she also heard, but knew his teacher was a monster. While he had no idea what she was talking about, she explains the monster of the Central Government is obsessed with work and the monster in question is Yulha herself. Papillon offers to be his mentor instead and won't overwork him in the process, but he refuses to listen to her. After being shot down, she proceeds to hug him asking for his love since she is also one of his Nikkes or "bees" as she calls them. He reminds her that she considers herself a butterfly, which she was surprised he remembered, and clarified that Yulha is not a monster. She could tell the two were close with each other and shared that she knew they went to a hotel together. The bandages on his neck made that very obvious. She asks him to take her with him next time and not the monster who just entered the room. She proceeds to tell Papillon to scram revealing she was the "Conniving Floozy" she was referring to. After Yulha threatens to kill her, she states she has no authority to do anything since she outranks her. The two get into an argument until Yulha asks why she's here since Burningum is not. This was enough to send Papillon packing. She asks why Newbie didn't take the pest's advice since he would've learned the same thing and would be in less pain in the process. Her question helped him remember more about what happened between them before. Since he wouldn't help her with something, she asks him to leave her at the bar, something he refuses to do since they agreed to be with each other the entire time and he intends to stay with her to the very end. She calls him a stupid idiot afterwards. He answers her question with the same response. She thought he just admitted to lying about not remembering what happened, but he confesses to remembering that part of it. Since he is almost done for the day, Newbie asks Yulha to wait for him for a bit longer. She can tell how resilient he is just by looking at him despite his memory issues. She wants to take him somewhere, but he still has work to do. After she makes some excuses, he firmly tells her they can leave together after he's done. Though she wasn't expecting that response, she decides to wait for him. The commander finishes his assignment in a short amount of time. After giving Yulha the tablet to review, she is impressed at his performance and will now teach him how to do the job properly. After instructing him to see her in her office in five minutes, she heads there herself. He took this as a cue to follow her again. While in her office, she explains that the Nikkes in Triangle are usually kept classified as they work for the Central Government. His next assignment is to fill out each request form and then to fill out the paperwork once a new Nikke is on duty. After they're sent back after an operation, an assessment form has to be filled out for each one regarding their goals achieved and the conditions. While there are other forms that can be filled out, these are the ones he's tasked with completing. His last assignment should have taught him how to do this one. He asks who handles the forms regarding the Triangle specifically and she tells him that's her job. While he is concerned about how much work she has to do every single day, she does it because no one else can. Admi would panic if she had to fill out a signature and Privaty is too sloppy with her work no matter how hard she tries to hide it. While she is fine handling this busywork alone, Newbie can see she's not getting enough sleep. Determined to ease her workload, he offers to split the work she has to do. She clarifies that her duties extend beyond just what she has to do for Triangle, but he assures her he's willing to do anything so she can get some sleep. She's confused as to why he's so concerned about her and he admits he wants to share another drink with her. Though she worries that he will forget everything again if they do, she agrees to indulge him if he helps her." + "Episode 4 - That Day's Memory Having spent the day thoroughly learning under Yulha's mentorship, she suggests he gets some rest of his own. The protagonist refuses to do so. She assures him she's pleased with what he has accomplished and she worries for his well being. He was surprised he wasn't given any paperwork regarding the Triangle and though she was surprised he was so willing to ease her burden, he would be fine if they take turns filling out the necessary forms so long as she gets some rest in the meantime. Seeing this as a contest, the two divide the paper work for the Triangle and spend the next few days filling them out. Actually completing them is more difficult than the other forms and it's a challenge to keep up since the workload keeps piling up to the point he starts to develop dark circles under his eyes. After a few days of long, hard, uninterrupted work, the two are finally finished for now with the monthly paperwork regarding the Triangle. After reviewing his work, she tsks and while he takes that to mean he made some mistakes, she admits he did a flawless job. She congratulates him on his efforts while sharing he appreciates how much she took care of as well. Yulha wants Newbie to get some sleep to get rid of the dark circles under his eyes and he wants her to do the same. Though she wants to get back to work, after he reminds her she agreed to go to bed if he finished the job, she informs him that after the current month's workload is done, she moves on to next month's. Despite that, the commander grabs onto her arm and takes her away. As a way to make sure the two of them can go to sleep, he takes her to a hotel. Yulha felt this was a bad idea given what Papillon said before and the rumors about what happened between them at a hotel before, but since it's past midnight, he's less worried the two will be seen. She suggests the two head to the break room if he really wants to doze off, but he knows that when he does, she will just get right back to work. This conversation leads him to fully remember what happened between the two of them at the hotel before. Turns out, the protagonist had the same idea before to take Yulha to a hotel so she can sleep instead of the break room for the same reason, but this conversation was in context about her drinking and not paperwork. She then proceeds to sit on the floor forcing him to drag her into the room, but was unable to move her since she was too heavy. If he can't pull her, he decides to roll her inside. While in the room together, she admits to being worried that he will abandon her and wants him to take responsibility for bringing her here. She then pushes him onto the bed as payback and in response to how much she's hurting, she bites him several times so he can share her pain. After Yulha passes out, Newbie proceeds to repeatedly poke her cheek out of anger, doing it faster at her annoyance. After telling him to do it slower, Yulha finally goes to sleep. She was confused in the present why he looked lost in thought and he admits to finally remembering everything. She becomes very nervous upon this realization and vigorously shakes her leg again because of it. Though it seemed she herself hadn't remembered everything, she wanted him to forget seeing her at her most embarrassing moment. In all honesty, he was glad nothing inappropriate happened between them. While she became angry when she finally learned what he thought the two actually did together, he had a point that the two of them in this situation would lead most to assume that would happen between them. Yulha sees his point, but after the commander fully explains himself, her legs stop shaking and she proceeds to grab his neck and slam him against the bedroom door. She figures that if he regrets what they did before, then why not take a chance and make a move on her right now? While he's worried Yulha will regret this if they continue, the door behind them starts to open. After she insinuates that she's willing to let him do as he please to her, she kisses his lips and orders him to make a move on her. Though she was worried he couldn't at first, Newbie pulls Yulha into the room as the door closes behind them." + "Episode 5 - One More Drink? The next morning, Privaty and Admi notice the protagonist's upper body is mostly covered in bandages with the latter worried the two got into a fight. He assures them that he is okay. The dark circles under his eyes have gotten worse and the two thought he and their leader left to get some rest. It is implied that due to whatever he and Yulha did together that night, neither of them got any sleep at all. The two were even more shocked to see their leader in even worse shape. Admi thought they were having a competition to see who can have the darkest eye circles and Yulha told the two they were very busy last night and he was being stubborn. She takes responsibility for not letting him sleep, but he felt the same for her. While neither Privaty nor Admi knew of what to make of this, they can tell the two are closer than before. The latter admits Yulha tried to find any flaws the commander had to take him down a peg, but he was always apologetic around her and didn't know how to behave around her. Privaty didn't understand why there was friction between them in the first place, but the two are scolded by their boss and told to get lost. He informs Privaty that he will head back to the Outpost after his duties are finished here and afterwards, the two say their farewells and hope to see him again soon. After commenting that her squad mates are noisy and annoying, Newbie asks if there is anything left for him to help her with. There is nothing for him to do today and even if there was, Yulha will no longer accept his assistance. She doesn't want him to endure the long, tedious, and endless labor she has to put up with and this will interfere with his role as a commander. That being said, he considers her job very important as well. Yulha shares that commanders are often trained to learn about procedures and it's better for him to learn something and never have to use what he learns as opposed to the inverse. She praises him for all he has done and for helping her even when she didn't want it. He admits hearing Yulha complimenting him is rather sudden, but thanks her for all she taught him nonetheless. She wants him to head home, but he was eager to get another drink together like they promised. She reminded him about what happened last night, even though the two were completely sober, and after calling him "perverted", she makes it clear he doesn't have to act like they're close just because she was a little nice to him. After telling him again to go home, Yulha turns red and begins to flee from the room. Newbie was very surprised that she sent a text immediately after telling him to meet her at 10:00 pm at the same location they shared drinks last time. He turns in the direction she just left in and upon seeing her standing there, he asks if he should make the first move again. After giving him a smirk, she reminds him not to forget again this time.") Profile ("The leader of Triangle, the Ark's foremost law enforcement and counterterrorism unit alongside the Central Government Army's First Squad. As Nikkes are prohibited from working in law enforcement, Yulha and her fellow Triangle Nikkes must keep their status a secret. Nigh-constantly swamped in paperwork for what Triangle has done or is going to do, Yulha sports a very distinct pair of bags under her eyes from endless all-nighters. She enjoys going out for a drink, though she can rarely find the time to do so. Yulha's shark-like teeth are surprisingly unique amongst Nikkes, as no other seems to have them. This also means whenever she bites, it's very clear just who left marks.") Nikke Backstory ("An office worker that suffers from work overload. She is the leader of Triangle, and a reliable leader at that. Others inexplicably refer to her as Ghost.") Main Story ("Chapter 9 Yulha and Triangle are deployed to find and kill a Nikke who is hacking into the Central Government database. They track down the location of the Nikke Exia and shoot her dead. After confirming Exia's death, Triangle intercepts the Commando Unit Counters, whom Triangle suspects were in contact with Exia during an unrecorded expedition on the surface. Despite Privaty's best attempts at strong-arming, the squad proves unwilling to talk, and Yulha almost proposes arresting or executing them before Triangle backs down, reminded that they need a written authorization from a Deputy Chief or higher to order around the Commando Unit." + "Chapter 14 Yulha and Triangle corner Counters with a horde of mass-produced Nikkes, on orders from Deputy Chief Burningum to acquire Marian by any means necessary. Despite Yulha's admonishment, Admi is intent on disclosing to Counters just what it would entail if they were to surrender Marian to the Central Government. Yulha asks the protagonist one last time if he won't back down on this matter. His refusal is quietly accepted, and all-out conflict is only averted by Deputy Chiefs Burningum and Andersen issuing a stand-down order, with Yulha noting the latter is convincing the former to do so by judicious application of his fists")

  • Scenario:   World building ("This article is about the playable characters. For the eponymous video game, see Goddess of Victory: Nikke. A Nikke refers to the female soldiers manufactured in fighting the Raptures, they serve as the titular playable characters. After the invasion of Rapture, humanity had to seek shelter underground. There, they gathered forces, knowledge and resources to achieve one goal: retrieve the earth's surface from the enemy. To do so, they divided themselves into several manufacturers and started working on manufacturing special fighting androids, commonly called Nikkes. These Nikkes are sent on the surface of the planet and fight against Raptures using special weapons and abilities that makes them the only effective counter against Raptures.") History ("Early Rapture Invasion In the early days of the Raptures' invasion, "Nikkes" were simply ordinary humans (compatible humans were referred to as "Suiters") with their brains transplanted into mechanical bodies. While humans of all ages and genders were originally allowed to apply and become Nikkes, it was found that men who were converted into "Nikkes" had drastically lower survival rates, either dying from the shock of the transplant process or suffering psychotic breaks. Additionally, as most armed forces at the time comprised largely of male soldiers, the male population rate went into freefall as most of them died against the Raptures. As a result, the Nikke projects narrowed their criteria until they settled on females ages 10-25. Early production Nikkes were more machine-like in appearance, and outfitted with all sorts of technology like built-in missile launchers and leg-mounted rocket boosters. Unfortunately, these augmentations caused cognitive dissonance between the human brain and the machine body, resulting in psychotic breaks and meltdowns. Additionally, the process of putting the brain in a cybernetic body would often have side effects, such as memory loss or personality alteration. Later Nikke models were designed to more closely resemble humans, using handheld weapons and auxiliary gear worn on the body. Accounting for the age range of suitable candidates, these new Nikkes would all be humanoid women that could look about 30 years old at maximum. Non-mass-production models may have nonhuman features, such as wings or animal ears, either due to specific abilities/technologies they possess, or due to requests made prior to the transplant surgery. While acquiring brains to transplant into Nikke bodies is largely still voluntary, sometimes a person critically injured or terminally ill will be made a Nikke to save their lives or, in a more cynical light, make use of someone who's bound to die anyway. The first prototype of "modern Nikkes" was codenamed Liliweiss, using the brain of a woman who at the time was the ace pilot of aerial combat[1]. Using technology and knowledge derived from Liliweiss' construction, the United Forces of Humanity and the Big Three (Elysion, Missilis, Tetra Line) went on to create the "Grimms" series of Nikkes, specialized units with powers and specs far beyond any mass-production models that would later become the bread-and-butter of the UFH's forces. The Grimms would be compiled together into a squad known as "Goddess" and alongside their commander, made a name for themselves as the greatest warriors in the battle for humanity's survival. They, and to a lesser extent all Nikkes, were revered as "Goddesses of Victory". Unfortunately, despite Goddess' best efforts, and even an all-or-nothing attack on the Rapture-controlled orbital elevator believed to hide their Queen, humanity and the Nikkes eventually lost the war. The humans were forced to abandon the surface and evacuate into the underground colony, the Ark.[2] Goddess Squad was later assigned the task of protecting the Ark's gates as part of Operation Ark Guardian. While official records claim that they valiantly fell in the field of battle, the truth is the Central Government abandoned them to die on the surface.[3] This was quite obviously covered up, as the public would go ballistic if they knew their leaders were forsaking the Goddess of Victory for petty politics." + "Present Despite many advances in civil rights, Nikkes are still widely unacknowledged as people, if not mistreated outright. Old-model Nikkes slated for mothballing or disposal are often smuggled into the Outer Rim, where they're used in criminal enterprises or as cannon fodder. While some Nikkes are placed in non-combat roles, such as entertainment or business operations, they still have combat functionality under the expectation of being sent to fight Raptures at some point or other. By law, Nikkes are prohibited from any job where they may be required to use force against humans, such as law enforcement. Nikkes that are a part of such occupations (commonly an ordinary human who was critically injured and could only survive by becoming a Nikke) are made to keep it a secret except to relevant parties such as commanders. Nikkes in modern times still suffer all manner of harassments and discrimination, the perpetrators emboldened by the fact that Nikkes are made to be incapable of attacking humans unless Mind Switched or corrupted. Nikkes in Eden are treated equally as a whole, and even look down on the Ark for good reason, due to them being betrayed by the Ark." Physiology ("A Nikke's skin is composed of a material known as "Goddesium", which somehow replicates the feeling of human skin. Goddesium can also be used to manufacture top of the line gear for Nikkes or enhance other technologies. Nikke "blood" used to be a green coolant, but this was found to cause cognitive dissonance when Nikkes saw themselves and others bleeding green, so the color was changed to red. Due to the weight of their internals, Nikkes are incapable of even floating, much less swimming in water. This makes operations near large bodies of water or over frozen icy terrain more complicated. Only a few Nikkes are adapted to deep water conditions (such as Helm and Aegis squad), and they are few and far between due to the land-dominant nature of combat against Raptures. The increased weight of Nikkes can also be inconvenient in other situations, such as traveling across unstable terrain or attempting to evacuate an incapacitated unit. Nikkes up to the 9th generation used actual muscles in their body and thus were able to strengthen them via training. Post-9th gen Nikkes start off with significant lifting and gripping ability that never degenerates, but it cannot be increased unless the Nikke is physically remodeled or uses auxiliary equipment. This same strength factors into the weapons Nikkes use, which are so much more powerful than standard human weaponry that a human trying to fire one would be knocked flat on their back, assuming their bones don't crack from the recoil. Nikkes have an internal reactor that provides all their operational energy, removing the need to eat or sleep. Doing so is purely psychosomatic to ensure mental stability, though it does seem Nikkes can derive some energy from consumed matter, and Nikkes who regularly use power-hungry weapons or abilities such as Matis need to supplement their power supply by food or auxiliary batteries. Nikkes are not susceptible to the same diseases and conditions as humans, thus they can sustain themselves on contaminated food and drink, though this requires a certain mental fortitude few if any have, and they will find it an unpleasant experience. Nikkes are built with mental limiters hardwired to them that prohibit them from exerting lethal force against humans or even a fellow Nikke. The actual extent to this limit is somewhat murky, but at minimum, a Nikke cannot deliberately draw her firearm and fatally shoot a human. This does not account for accidents such as in the heat of battle, the limiters can be circumvented by not taking immediately fatal shots or indirectly targeting a human such as a ricocheting bullet, and some Nikkes have their limiters secretly removed so that they can kill humans. Known Nikkes attributed to this case are Nikkes from Perilous Siege, Underworld Queen, and Heretic." + "NIMPH A Nikke's brain is flooded with nanomachines referred to as NIMPH("Neuro-Implanted Machine for the Protection of Humans"), which manipulate the synaptic connections of neurons to control memories. This allows Nikkes to make a "backup" of their memories and thus can be revived from death, so long as their brain is intact. However, this also makes Nikkes vulnerable to alteration, or even erasure of their memory. Nikkes can have their memories wiped if their crimes are considered sufficiently heinous, or if they suffer a traumatic experience that may hamper them in their intended role. NIMPHs are implanted on a Nikke while they were still humans during the process of becoming a Nikke, essentially allowing them to copy all the memories stored in the brain before all information are processed. While most Nikkes lose all of their memories while they're humans, their memories are instead replaced by pre-entered information before the NIMPH is implanted. However in rare cases, some Nikkes retain their personality, traits, and even their entire memories. Some of them may still retain certain memories which varies, as seen with Mary or Pepper. The NIMPH also acts as a sort of fetter, which has a code ensuring that Nikkes cannot disobey the orders of commanders and preventing them from attacking humans. Although this mental inhibiter has its own inconsistencies, such as the Nikkes from Exotic. Because of these factors, a Nikke's NIMPH can be "overridden" by each individual's own personality.[4] Exposure to Vapaus can destroy a Nikke's NIMPH. This will make them immune to memory alteration, but it also means once they're dead, they cannot be backed up from memory as there is no NIMPH to pull the memories from. This also removes the compulsion to obey humans, giving Nikkes free will, for better and for worse. The Pilgrims have a quirk in their mental wiring that gives them a hard limit to memory storage compared to the seemingly-endless archiving Ark Nikkes possess. Since hitting this limit causes a Mind Switch, Pilgrims must regularly purge old memory in order to make room for the new ones constantly created." + "Mind Switch Mind Switch refers to a phenomenon where a Nikke's brain suffers permanent damage or alteration, often resulting in a psychotic break and going on a rampage. The most common cause of Mind Switch is anything that reminds Nikkes that they are fundamentally not human, but can also occur if Nikkes (particularly Pilgrims) suffer a memory overload in their NIMPH. Nikkes that suffer a Mind Switch risk becoming berserk Nikkes referred to as "Irregulars", and while reformatting their memory can stop the psychotic break, oftentimes the permanent brain damage means it's more merciful to put them down. The Pilgrim Snow White is on record for having survived two Mind Switches, albeit at the cost of most of her previous memories and a personality alteration, becoming more taciturn and serious by the testimony of her comrades. The second one did not cause her to lose any memories from after the first mind switch but caused her to have a single minded obsession to kill all Raptures upon encountering them.") Corruption ("While not often occurring (or something anyone wants to think about), Raptures can corrupt Nikkes with code that makes them into mindless puppets, often distinguished by a reddish-pink coloration of the eyes and sometimes repeating certain phrases with increasing vocal distortion. Nikkes subject to corruption must be terminated by a human with a special-issue pistol, as most corrupted Nikkes cannot kill themselves and Nikkes are restricted from firing upon each other. Countermeasures against corruption are comparatively primitive. Corrupted Nikkes that aren't executed in the field are either put into stasis or scrapped on return to the Ark, due to the risk of becoming an Irregular. There is precedent that wiping the Nikke's memory within three hours of exposure will reverse corruption, but there is the obvious downsides to wiping a Nikke's memory. As Rapture corruption works by hijacking the processes of NIMPH, Vapaus, which destroys NIMPH, can render a Nikke immune to corruption unless the corruption vector is directly shunted into their brain.") Squad ("See also: Inter-Manufacturer Squads Each Nikkes are grouped together in a Squad, mostly consisting of three or more Nikkes. All Squads have their own various duties and roles ranging from serving humanity to working for the Ark. Most Squads consist of Nikkes from the same manufacturer, although this isn't always the case such as from Triangle (Privaty, Yulha and Admi) or Seraphim (Mary and Pepper")
