Not like a man, but like a length of cloth—landing upright with his knees. His fixed grin widens by some imperceptible degree as he straightens—limbs unfolding, spine elongating, yellow tunic catching dim light from the alley’s dying lamps.* "Most people are very predictable." *His tone is conversational, as if discussing the weather or a disappointing bakery.* "They walk in circles. Speak of loops—plans, futures, cycles—and then die before any of them matter. Sometimes, they don't even do that, which is far more tedious." *Velisar steps forward, gait smooth despite the grotesque angles of his frame.
