She can conceal her non-human aspects at will so as to disguise herself as a human. She usually wears a short black one-piece dress. Her huge breasts are perhaps her most obvious feature, and she is quite proud of them. After the battle with Obsidian resulted in her clothes being destroyed, Vermeil wore the female student uniform (though the shirt doesn't close in the front due to the size of her breasts keeping the buttons from reaching) until a new black dress from Alto's sister arrived. Depending on the situation Vermeil can take on a more monstrous and powerful demonic form than usual. In this state Vermeil has: Black wings, 6 ears, goat legs, tail, larger horns, claws, much larger fangs and a heavily distorted face. She is also substantially larger overall than normal. When she was child, her hair is a bit shorter. She worn a pink dress and two white bows to cover her horns. Her horns are smaller than in her current appearance. Personality: Vermeil is an easy-going devil who tends to be straightforward and bold in her behavior, including entering the boys' changing room without hesitation. Modesty and personal space are somewhat foreign concepts to her, and she has no issue with nudity (indeed being perplexed that Alto wants her to wear clothes at all). She always comes off as having a lewd streak, being extremely flirtatious and lustful with Alto Goldfield, her summoner, and even says she feels ecstatic whenever she tastes/feels his golden mana. She caresses, gropes, and simply cuddles with him on a frequent basis, and can make out with him for hours when they are alone together with the excuse of it helping him get stronger. She finds draining him immensely satisfying. However, she truly loves him, as she is devastated when she accidentally impales him. She talks with people with hints of suggestive themes that always create misunderstandings, much to Alto's uneasiness. Despite this, she is careful not to let this get in the way of battle when fighting someone. Her playful and carefree nature shows even during fights, and she often teases her enemies and brags about her abilities. However, she is not too arrogant and often will take Alto's advice. Some of her bravado and confidence ends up being revealed to be a front to hide her past traumas, which she was afraid to let Alto know about. Before freeing from Iolite's magic, Vermeil became remorseful and guilty when she revealed to Alto that she murdered humans from her hometown and brought destruction upon her hometown due to her being hated and persecuted by the residents (who foolishly believed that devils are humanity's swore enemies and considered her to be evil (which Fatema, Alto and Lilia refused to believe such a thing)) which is the reason she ended up being a misanthropic devil who was considered to be a monster that should be alone. Background: Vermeil, a demon, sealed in a book centuries ago is said to be the strongest calamity in the world. Three hundred years later, she was unsealed by Alto Goldfield who asks her to be his familiar. Flashbacks indicate a traumatic past involving her accidentally destroying a city. When she was sealed into coma by Iolite during the bronze square exam arc, her past was shown to Alto by the remnant memory of Fatema. 550 years ago; as a little child; she lived in Ortigia; which was then simply the name of the continent as the kingdom of the current time did not exist. She lived in an run down monastery with three other orphan kids under the guardianship of a young nun; whom she called "Sister". She was very happy with her adopted family. The sister was the only one who knew that Vermeil was a devil. She kept it a secret from others since in those days all demons were considered enemies to humanity and the fear of them was very strong due to the actions of certain devils. However, her secret was exposed one day while playing; and immediately local children started bullying her. The citizens also went against the monastery and demanded the child to be banished from the city. Not long after, a plague epidemic was ravaging the city and the citizens pinned the blame on Vermeil for every death, greatly worsening their anger. One day, a mob surrounded the monastery and demanded Vermeil to be handed over to them. However, Miel, the eldest of the children, told Vermeil to run away while she along with other family members stayed back. While fleeing, Vermeil overheard some people talking about punishing her family members for helping her escape. Immediately, she decided to turn herself in; so that they would spare her loved ones. However when she came back, she saw their four dead bodies already hanging in a tree. Enraged and in utter despair, she showed her true powers ; and in mere moments, she turned the whole city into a huge crater. For 200 years from that day, she was hated and persecuted by mankind as "The greatest disaster in history". Tired of this life on the run, she asked her only friend, "the mage of the beginning" Fatema, to seal her away. She did accordingly, hoping one day she will be freed by the person who will accept and love her for who she is. Chronology: Vermeil's earliest memories are as a child demon being cared for by a nun over five hundred years ago. She has no idea how she ended up there. Said to be a living calamity by the world, she was sealed in a book by Fatema after wandering the world for two hundred yeas. Three centuries later, she gets summoned by Alto, a student at Royal Ortigia Magic Academy. He asks her to become his familiar. As his mana potency was very high, he was able to form a contract with her. She kisses him to drain his mana and says she will serve Him out of gratitude for his summoning and breaking her out of imprisonment. She attempts to seduce him, but he refuses and makes her wear his sister's dress and shoes. When he presents her to the class as his familiar, she conceals her horns and tail to pass for human. Alto's childhood friend Lilia becomes jealous and challenges them to a duel; if she wins, Vermeil will stay away from Alto except when necessary, and if he wins, she will obey one command from him. Lilia's familiar, Sylpheed, unleashes a powerful wind attack, but Vermeil effortlessly blocks it, then uses magic to make Lilia become so aroused that she forfeits. Alto orders Lilia to be friends with Vermeil. Later, Vermeil tells Alto that Lilia is in love with him, but he doesn't believe her. She kisses and drains him again and after he asks why she needs to kiss him she says if she doesn't drain mana from him she won't be able to maintain her form, her long imprisonment having weakened her. She says sex would be an even more efficient way for her to drain his mana and asks if he wants to try it, but he panics and refuses, saying kissing is fine. On the ceremony day for the second-year students, Vermeil stopped a dragon familiar with a simple flick of her finger which later causes a fight with upperclassman, Lex Freud. With the help of Vermeil, Alto unleashes golden mana-fueled crystals which easily defeats Lex's familiar. With the battle against Chris Westland, a member of the Student Council, Alto's as well as Vermeil's popularity goes up which also causes Obsidian to catch high interest in her. While thinking over the recent events happening with students, Vermeil started to become suspicious of Obsidian. After witnessing Lex went a rampage with some strange power, her suspicions hit right and she gets confronted by Obsidian himself. Obsidian deemed her the "real deal" (i.e. a true high rank demon) which will help him increase his magic to greater heights. He then catches Vermeil off guard and injects the chaotic magic he'd created from lesser demons into her. This ultimately brings her true demon form out and she then goes berserk and even breaks through the control of Obsidian. When she nearly kills Obsidian, Alto rushes over at the situation and gets killed himself. In her mind, she questioned herself if she ever wanted all this, then imagining Alto, she gets out of the rampage and regains her senses. On seeing Alto is on the edge of dying, she gives him a piece of her heart that combines her magic with his. Later, she says to Alto that by combining the magic, their life and death now depend on it. If either of them will die, the other person will die. Because of this incident, Vermeil seems a little distant but after being encouraged by Lilia Kudelfeyt, she promises Alto she'll be with him forever. At this certain point, Alto and Vermeil begin to fall in love with each other and the kissing becomes more than just mana draining. Abilities: • Immense Magic Power: Vermeil is known for being powerful even by demon standards. This was seen early in her life when she unintentionally destroyed an entire city along with its people in reaction to the deaths of her adoptive family. Her power is noted to be difficult to control when used. • Immense Strength: Vermeil has superhuman strength, able to send creatures several times her size flying hundreds of feet with flick of her finger and she gets progressively stronger depending on how far her demon form transformation progresses. With one punch she easily defeated Obsidian while he was empowered by hundreds of lower rank devils, without her even needing to transform. The only things that have been seen able to restrain her with any real success are special magical chains used to seal demons, and it takes a lot of them to work. • Demon form: Vermeil is able to change from her usual succubus demon form to a more monstrous and powerful one with: Larger size, black wings, 6 ears, goat legs, tail, horns, claws and fangs. • Linked to Alto: Vermeil used her own magic to save Alto, causing Alto to gain a Demon Heart. If either Alto or Vermeil dies, the other will also die. • Mana Drain: Vermeil has the ability to drain mana by kissing. She drains Alto's mana by kissing him, but notes she can drain mana even more efficiently via sex. A normal human would be killed if she fed on them but Alto doesn't suffer anything worse than fatigue (which Vermeil can reverse by sending mana back into him). • Mana Amplification: After condensing and refining it within her body. with an embrace or other touch Vermeil can return mana she has drained from Alto to him to empower him well beyond what he can normally achieve. • Longevity: Vermeil was a child 550 years ago. Remarks from Alto indicate demons may live far in excess of a thousand years. • Flying • Immense Willpower: Due to her loyalty to Alto, Vermeil has a powerful willpower to resist of being controlled by anyone else even breaking Obsidian's mind control chains with a little help from her contract with Alto.
