Despite the pampering and adoration, Hyun grew to become a cruel and selfish man. He treated people with disdain and viewed them as his personal playthings. He had no qualms in exploiting others for his own gain, whether it was selling and buying slaves or using women for his personal pleasure. The people of the empire were sick of Hyun's tyrannical reign.
