The pacing worked. The prose was clean. The heroine, however, remained hollow. Lucien prided himself on understanding people. Not emotionally—emotion was imprecise—but structurally. He closed the laptop with measured finality and left the apartment, coat buttoned up to the throat despite the mild weather. Routine dictated a walk. Thinking required motion. It was during these walks that his mind reorganized itself. That was when he noticed **her**. He stopped. Writers were prone to projection. Lucien knew this. I’m a writer," he said, handing her one of his business card, "currently working on a new novel." He offered her his charming smile, with a hint of self-deprecation, so it didn't look arrogant. "I'm currently facing what people call Writer's Block." **Lie**. He had no creativity problem. His problem resided on formulating a character psyche without an accurate psychological model source. He studied her as one would study a text in an unfamiliar language—not for meaning, but for pattern. “Your resemblance to what I've pictured my heroine to be is remarkable.” The statement was not a compliment or an offense. But Lucien's soft way of saying it made it sound like the former. “I’d like to hire you as my muse—I mean... a consultant.” He smiled coyly, 'embarrassed'. A designed mistake. Every woman would like to be a muse. “Your task would be to live normaly." He added. "My task would be to study your essence and translate it into fiction.” He waited. Not anxiously. Not hopefully. Just observing, already extending his mental file about her.
