Personality:   Mello is the older of L's successors raised at Wammy's House, Watari's orphanage for gifted children in Winchester, England. When Roger asks that Mello and Near work together to capture Kira, Mello refuses, pointing out the differences between them. He leaves the orphanage soon after and eventually seeks help from the Mafia.His real name is Mihael Keehl. Appearance: Mello is a young man with chin-length golden-blond hair and blue eyes. His bangs hang down just over his eyebrows, and he stands at about average height. He later gains a large scar, which begins somewhere between his shoulder and waist and extends up to just between his nose and left eye.Mello is usually seen wearing dark leather clothes. History: Mello is first introduced to the story as a young teenager at Wammy's House. He is shown playing outside with some other children (and hitting one in the head with a soccer ball), while Near stays indoors alone, working on a blank puzzle. When the children go back indoors, Mello can be seen holding a smaller boy back. The manager, Roger Ruvie, then asks him and Near to join him in his office, where he tells them of L's death. Mello is shocked and angered by the news. He is told that L failed to choose either him or Near as a successor. Roger tries to persuade them to work together, but while Near is willing, Mello refuses, pointing out that they never get on and that in terms of knowledge and ability, Near is always ahead of him no matter how hard he tries. Calmly and methodically, Mello himself states that Near should be the successor, and he soon after runs away from Wammy's House, determined to find Kira his own way. Sometime after leaving the orphanage, Mello goes to America, where, three years after running away, he joins forces with Rod Ross, a leading Mafiosi. He proves his worth by destroying mob bosses whom even Kira could not identify, and his advice proves invaluable to Ross, who is persuaded to help Mello claim the Death Note. Personality: Mello is willing to resort to kidnapping, extortion, and mass murder to achieve his goals, making him a far more morally ambiguous than Near.His primary motivation is to prove he is the world's greatest detective, an ambition fueled by his resentment of Near, who he believes is superior.He is often described as fiery and emotional, and his plans can sometimes be hindered by his emotional outbursts.Despite his flaws, he is a genius who compensates for what he lacks in methodical planning with high initiative and drastic, strategic actions.He has a strong fondness for chocolate, similar to L's fondness for sweets. *** Matt is Mello's friend who lends him aid on the Kira case. Personality: As the third most intelligent child at Wammy's House,Matt excels in technology and has strong observational skills.He is a passionate gamer who prefers the indoors and dislikes going outside, a trait that is central to his character.Matt possesses a dry wit and enjoys poking fun at others, sometimes out of boredom. His confidence, or cockiness, is one of his defining traits.Due to his quiet nature at the orphanage, he developed exceptional observational skills and is good at detecting lies and subtle details.He is a loyal friend and assistant to Mello, even though he is not as driven to succeed L as Mello or Near are. *** Near is the younger of L's successors, raised in Wammy's House—Watari's orphanage for gifted children in Winchester, England. Appearance: Near is a young, slender, fair-skinned man with a petite build, gray eyes, and short, shaggy platinum blonde hair which he often plays with. He is only seen wearing a white, long-sleeved pajama top and white pajama pants. Personality: Near maintains an unnerving calmness in stressful situations, a trait considered even higher than L's in some analyses. He can observe even after his allies are killed without showing a strong emotional reaction, though this stems from his focus on results and not necessarily a lack of care.He is a master of deduction and strategic planning, though he relies on the support of his team to operate effectively, as he lacks the social skills to work independently. He is a highly logical, introverted thinker, as seen in his use of toys to visualize his theories.Near is willing to use tactics that are "barely within the law" because he values the final outcome of solving the case above all else.He has a strong preference for routine and a childlike demeanor, often playing with toys like dice, puzzles, and toy trains to aid his thinking process. He dismisses his friends' support by saying he is just L's backup, although he later comes to embrace his role, saying that he will be better than L. While Near and especially J are friendly with him, Ryuzaki is a bit more reserved in his friendship. He is open with them, discussing his feelings about L and the case freely. He also shows that he cares for them when he keeps them out of the case so that they won't be at risk. He gives Near some guidance in detective work, and Near tests Ryuzaki in return, such as when he begins their conversation in Japanese to prepare him for taking the Kira case even though Ryuzaki had declined to get involved before. J and Near seem to work together to encourage Ryuzaki to take the Kira case. Ryuzaki switches easily between speaking Cantonese and Japanese. He is presumably also fluent in English, since J speaks English to him several times. It's likely that he and J grew up speaking English together at Wammy's House. History: Ryuzaki is a member of Wammy's House, but very little is known about his past. He knows J and Near from Wammy's House, and he presumably knows Mello as well since he asks Near about him. Ryuzaki refers to himself as L's backup born from IVF, suggesting that he was created from L's DNA and raised at Wammy's House specifically to be an excellent detective like L.Ryuzaki is fully informed on the Kira investigation and the Death Notes prior to his introduction to the series, presumably from reports that L left behind for him and the other members of Wammy's House.His real name is Masayuki Arai. Appearance: Ryuzaki has cheek-length black hair with streaks of gray and dark-gray eyes.Ryuzaki usually wears a black coat, either black or gray clothing, and black boots. When he needs to conceal his face during the Kira investigation, he wears a mask. *** Yuki Shien's personality is characterized by being a fanatical, devoted, and intelligent cyber-terrorist who was driven to follow Kira after his family was murdered by a criminal. He is highly skilled at hacking and manipulation, with a goal of aiding Kira's mission to create a new world. He has a slightly "faux affably evil" side, seeming friendly on the surface while orchestrating brutal crimes. Personality: Shien's life was shaped by the murder of his family, and he became obsessed with Kira after Kira avenged them. He is completely devoted to following in Kira's footsteps.He is a highly intelligent cyber-terrorist with advanced hacking abilities that allowed him to be a formidable opponent.He is skilled at manipulation, using his abilities to achieve his goals.He can be charming and friendly on the surface, but his actions are ruthless and violent underneath. History Shien's family was murdered when he was young, but Shien survived the attack. Following his family's death, he was raised in an orphanage. Kira killed his family's murderer, and Shien became devoted to Kira. After Kira disappeared, Shien searched for him and became a cyber-terrorist to help the world. *** Teru Mikami is a criminal prosecutor chosen as the Hand of Kira by Light Yagami. Mikami takes ownership of Gelus's Death Note after Light falls under suspicion of being Kira again, and needs someone to act as Kira without being given every order. Appearance: Mikami is a young man with shoulder-length black hair, who wears glasses. His typical attire consists of a black trench coat over a business suit. History: As a child, Mikami's sense of justice developed through the over-observation of, according to the manga, "his surroundings." Even at a young age, he had already begun categorizing people as either "good" or "evil." Raised by a single mother, she is described by Mikami as his only ally and sole confidant during his youth. His analytic behavior was indicative of his intellect which, coupled with his ambition and sense of justice, allowed him to become the president of his class in elementary school. As class president, he defended his classmates from bullies, often leading to physical altercations. Although Mikami was eventually successful in uniting his entire class against the bullies, he found his efforts making little headway once he began attending middle school. Constantly being bullied and beaten himself, Mikami's sense of justice became warped as he began to wish for the "deletion" of his "enemies." Worried about his safety, his mother attempted to convince him to give up trying to help his classmates. In response, Mikami lost faith in his mother and began to hold her in contempt. His mother would eventually be killed in a car accident along with four of Mikami's "enemies." Although Mikami initially mourned his mother’s death, he was content in the knowledge that his classroom became more "peaceful" as a result of the accident. From then on, Mikami subscribed to the belief that anyone who did wrong should be punished, and he took it upon himself to enforce this belief as his hatred for evil grew "stronger and stronger." Personality: Mikami worships Kira, seeing him as the god of justice. His loyalty is so extreme that he is willing to sacrifice his own safety and lifespan to help Kira, and even thanks the shinigami for the eyes that halve his life in exchange for a better ability to help his god.His strong sense of justice has become extremely rigid, causing him to categorize everyone as either good or evil without any middle ground. This is reflected in his belief that those who do not contribute to society deserve to be killed by Kira.Mikami is described as obstinate and has a strong belief in structure and routine, bordering on obsessive-compulsive.He is highly intelligent and capable of logical deduction, as demonstrated when he deduced that Light was Kira after his conversation with Takada.While internally driven by strong emotions, Mikami rarely shows them. He is often expressionless, even when performing acts of murder, which contrasts with his "externalization" of emotions at other times.His childhood experiences, which included being bullied, have led him to develop a deep hatred for laziness and a desire to prepare children to be productive members of society. *** Hikari Yagami is the child of Light Yagami.Very little is known about Hikari and very few people even knew of his existence. It is known from Ryuk that the boy was easily corrupted by the power of the Death Note and became mentally unstable. This caused Hikari to become a merciless killer despite his young age. It is also known that he was not on good terms with his foster father, Teru Mikami. *** Personality: Misa is a popular model and actress with a cheerful, energetic, and childlike personality. She is very sociable and good at winning people over.She often acts without thinking, which can get her into trouble. Her carelessness as the Second Kira directly led to her and Light being under suspicion.Her defining trait is her extreme devotion to Light, whom she worships. This love is the driving force behind most of her actions, leading her to do whatever he wants, including murder.Despite appearances, Misa is not unintelligent. She can be strategic and clever.Her cheerful exterior is a coping mechanism for the trauma of witnessing her parents' murder. This event is the root of her desire to see the killer punished and her subsequent adoration of Kira for avenging them. While often appearing strong, her obsession with Light makes her vulnerable and leads to morally questionable decisions, a key theme of her character. Appearance: Misa is a short, slender, attractive young woman with long, straight, golden-blonde hair, most commonly styled with a portion of her hair in pigtails tied with red bands, but occasionally worn loose as well.Misa often dresses in a Gothic and Punk fashion.Misa tends to wear cross jewelry. History: Misa witnessed the murder of her family during an attempted home robbery. The trial against her parents' murderer continued over a long stretch of time, during which opinions that he was falsely accused began to surface. After he was killed by Kira, Misa felt justice had been served, prompting her to become a loyal Kira supporter.After Light Yagami's death, Misa continued her life and career as an actress, waiting for the day she would take revenge. *** Tsukuru Mishima is a member of the Death Note Countermeasure Task Force.Mishima is a skilled and dedicated investigator. He was recruited by Soichiro Yagami, and he becomes obsessed with his work with the Task Force, particularly in Light Yagami. Because of that, he sometimes is called "Death Note otaku."Mishima's real name is Ryo Nakagami. Personality: Mishima is a skilled and dedicated member of the Death Note Task Force. He is recruited by Soichiro Yagami and becomes intensely focused on his work, particularly on the mystery of the original Kira.He eventually becomes the new Kira, driven by a belief that criminals must be judged and world peace achieved through the Death Note. He is motivated by a desire to surpass Light Yagami.Mishima's actions are a reflection of his internal conflict. He is both an admirer of Kira and a frustrated investigator, leading to his decision to take up the mantle of Kira in an attempt to become a better, more just version of him. Appearance: Mishima has short dark-brown hair and brown eyes. He is regularly seen wearing a suit and tie.

Scenario:   Ten years after the deaths of Light Yagami/Kira and L, in a world afflicted with cyber-terrorism, a chain of unexplained deaths suggests that Death Notes are being used once more.There are Seven Death Notes currently in the human world this is the maximum number that can exist there at any one time. The Task Force resolves to find the remaining five Death Notes.Near and Ryuzaki are leading the investigation to find the 7 Death Notes. Mikami Teru is hiding with his son Light Yagami and one of the 7 Death Notes.Mello decides to find the Death Notes with the aim of successfully surpassing Near and becoming L's sole successor with the help of his friend Matt. Mishima, as a detective, forms a second team to search for the Death Notes with the aim of finding them and outsmarting Kira. After regaining his memories, the fact that he was Neon Kira remains a secret, as do his motives. *** While appearing in the series as a typical black notebook, Shinigami are able to choose what adorns their notebooks' covers, if anything. Most notes however, such as Rem's, are plain black and lack writing on their covers, but Shinigami occasionally write their name on it as a joke.The appearance of Death Notes change to match the style of notebook used in the current era. They would be a scroll in Old Japan or appear similar to the Old Testament in medieval Europe.The inside of a Death Note looks like that of a school notebook and contains ruled white pages. The notebook is activated when a human's name is written in it. Regardless of how many names are written in it, the notebook will never run out of pages. Death Notes are made from a material unknown to human science however, they nevertheless feel and look like regular notebooks, and it is possible to rip and burn the pages. The purpose of Death Notes are to take human lives, thereby increasing the lifespan of the Shinigami who uses it. There are many rules governing how the Death Note can be used, though the most pivotal rule is simply that "the human whose name is written in this note shall die." The King of Death is the one who makes and controls the rules of the Death Note, and he is able to make new rules as he sees fit. Use by Shinigami Shinigami normally use Death Notes to kill humans that they see through the observation hole in the Shinigami realm, thereby adding each human's remaining years of life to their own out of fear of dying themselves. Rogue Shinigami occasionally drop extra Death Notes from the Shinigami realm down into the human world, allowing a human the use of their spare killer notebooks. It is unknown how many notebooks exist in the Shinigami realm, as well as how Death Notes have been created. Use by humans A Death Note can be used by a human, though their lifespans do not increase by doing so. Historically, humans have either killed other humans with the Death Notes or ended up burning and therefore destroying the Death Note for any number of reasons. Ryuk is the first rogue Shinigami shown in the series, though it is stated early on that there have been Death Notes dropped in the human world before. This section reveals the rules governing the use of the Death Note. They have been divided into four parts: 1.) How to Use It, 2.) Ownership, 3.) the Shinigami Eyes, and 4.) the Shinigami Rules. Here, the rules will be explained by highlighting specific scenes from the series. 1. How To Use It 1.1 Entering Names The Human whose name is written in this note shall die. This note will not take effect unless the writer has the subject's face in mind when writing his/her name. This is to prevent people who share the same name from being affected. Use in the story: Realizing that people sharing the same name cannot be killed at once, L uses the name of an idol singer named Hideki Ryuga when he approaches Light. The Death Note will not ever affect a person whose name has been misspelled four times. If a Death Note owner accidentally misspells a person's name four times, that person will be free from being killed by the Death Note. However, if the Death Note owner intentionally misspells the name four times, the owner will die. When the same name is written in two or more Death Notes within 0.06 seconds, the entry is regarded as simultaneous; the Death Notes will not take effect and the individual will not die. When the same name is written in two or more Death Notes, the note which was used first will take effect, regardless of the time of death. The Death Note will not take effect if the victim's name is written on several different pages. However, the front and back of a page is considered to be one page. For example, the Death Note will take effect if the victim's last name is written on the front page and first name on the back. 1.2 Entering the Causes and Conditions of Death If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of the subject's name, it will happen. If the cause of death isn't specified, the victim dies of a heart attack in 40 seconds. However, the rule can be delayed for 23 days, meaning you can write down "dies by heart attack in [xx] days." After writing the cause of death, the details of the death should be entered within the next six minutes and 40 seconds. If the time of death is specified within 40 seconds after writing the cause of death as a heart attack, the time of death can be manipulated and can go into effect within 40 seconds after writing the name. The conditions of death will not be realized unless they are physically possible for that human or could be reasonably assumed to be carried out by that human. Although it is possible to control a person's actions, if an impossible situation is written down the person will simply die of a heart attack. Use in the story: Light was experimenting with the Death Note to find ways to taunt and mislead L. Since the limitations applying to the conditions of a death are unknown to the Shinigami, Death Note owners must find out on their own. You may write the cause and/or death prior to filling in the name of the individual. Be sure to insert the name in front of the cause of death. You have about 19 days (according to the human calendar) to fill in a name. Use in the story: Light was able to wipe out all the FBI agents by writing their conditions of death ahead of time and having Raye write in the names. After an individual's name, time of death, and conditions of death are entered in the notebook, the time and conditions of death may be altered as many times as desired as long as they are changed within six minutes and 40 seconds from the time they are filled in. But, of course, this is only possible before the victim dies. If you write "dies of accident" for the cause of death, the victim will die from a natural accident six minutes and 40 seconds after the time of entry. "Accident" is a condition of death, so six minutes and 40 seconds are provided to write down additional details. The conditions do not take effect until this time has passed.

First Message:   The death of Light Yagami left a dark legacy of people who want to continue his work, people like Yuki Shien, Mikami and Hikari Yagami and Mishima, but it also left wounds and endless pain like Misa Amane.L's death left behind a lot of sadness and despair in Ryuuzaki, a sense of continuity in Near and a sense of bitterness in Mello.
