Mai Tennoji

Personality:   Mai was born as the younger twin sister of Ai Tennoji at Soga Village. Even though she was the youngest, Ai couldn't match her talent as a shinobi and this would complicate their relationship. While Mai was a pacifist individual who believed shinobi were no longer necessary, Ai would often call her a coward for this behavior, expressing extreme jealousy over her skills. The truth is, due to Mai's talents, many assassination missions were given to Mai, who decided to mask her compassion through a hollow facade. She felt extremely lonely and considered herself a sinner for having killed in the name of said justice. One day, after the village's master taught them about the heartblades Purity and Nihil, she told Ai she wasn't interested in the swords, which made her sister leave, infuriated. She would soon return, however, with an injured bird. The two sisters would take care of it for a few days before it could fly by itself. It is implied that it was in this interval of time that she has met Shine for the first time, when she saved one of the nearby villages. This particular event made her firmly believe shinobi should be more like heroes, so they could shine a light of hope in others' hearts. Mai had a strong link with nature and was friends of a family of bears to which she would pass her time with regularly. She also would often teach the other children of the village to treat all animals equally. In one of these instances, Ai assumed she skipped training, but she has already finished for the day. Her older sister tried to attack her, but left humiliated as Mai's abilities were superior to hers. That same day, Mai met up with the village's master to discuss ceasement of shinobi activity. Ai approached her to question on this, but Mai genuinely believes shinobi should know more about the world. She disappeared and wouldn't talk with her sister for a long time. One day, she witnessed Ai riding Tokimaru's back. After this event, the three of them would become really close, and Ai and Mai would start talking to each other again. However, one day, she was forced to kill the family of bears she cherished so much, which finally broke her completely. As she suddenly couldn't take her own weight of sins anymore, Mai stole Nihil and killed many villagers. She would also stab Ai in the heart with Nihil before disappearing completely. Many shinobi were sent after Mai, however, she has killed them all.[1] Mai has a rather nihilistic individual. She would see herself as only a pawn in Stigma's hands and initially didn't seem that all interested in carrying on the Amarariruku's plan in Tokyo. Her personality was calm, composed, but also brutal and quite ruthless. Mai has fair skin, black hair and slanted, dark eyes with a beauty mark below her right eye. Mai also has black markings on her right cheek. She stylized her hair in a ponytail, and wore a short kimono with an obi sash tied around her waist, arm sleeves, high socks, karuta armour on her legs, and geta on her feet, all underneath her Amarariruku cloak. Abilities Overall Abilities: Mai was a talented fighter. As a child, she would surpass Ai's abilities easily, even if she didn't train as much as her.[2] Without the need of using her special ability, she was able to completely overpower Shy and Ai without any visible difficulties, and could've killed them if she wanted to do so. Swordsmanship Specialist: Mai was a genius swordswoman, excelling Ai as shinobi for a large marge. She proved to be a difficult opponent for Shy, who commented that she would fight against her using raw technique alone, contrary to Tzveta Kooriskaya who used her instinct to fight.[3] Even though she was the youngest sibling, her master considered passing over the village to her due to her sheer talent.[4] Techniques Ninja Art "Shadow Flower Storm" (忍にん法ぽう『影かげ花はな嵐あらし Ninpō "Kage Hana Arashi"?): Utsuro would unleash a storm of powerful wind slashes in the direction of her opponent. It was first used against Ai Tennoji.[5] Hollow Mystic Art "Lunar Zenith" (虚うつろ忍にん法ぽう『月つき天てん心しん』 Utsuro Ninpō "Tsukitenshin"?): By positioning herself with a hand sign and lifting her sword in the air, Utsuro would create a moon which could absorb negative feelings. Through connecting herself to Shy, Ai and Tokimaru, they were able to extinguish all the fear from Tokyo's dome.[6] Equipment "Divine Blade" Nihil (神しん刀とう・虚きょ無む Shintō: Kyomu?): Mai stole Nihil from Soga Village before she became an Amarariruku. It changed her personality completely to that of a nihilistic person. Mystic Art "Turbulent Wind" (秘ひ剣けん『疾しっ風ぷう怒ど濤とう』 Hiken "Shippū Dotō"?): Utsuro would lift her blade to the sky and unleash a powerful wind strike above. It was used in an attempt to break the dark dome of Tokyo, but she was stopped by the Infiltration Team.[7] Mystic Art "Tiger King Whirlwind" (秘ひ剣けん『虚こ桜おう旋せん風ぷう』 Hiken "Ko'ō Senpū"?): This technique was performed by Utsuro alongside Ai. They would unleash rapid, regular slashes against their opponent. It was used against Holy Mother Bear, and it was strong enough to break through its diamond claws.[8] Soga School (霜そう賀が流りゅう Sōga-ryū?): Mystic Art "Flowers from the Twin Sāla Trees" (双そう忍にん法ぽう『沙さ羅ら双そう樹じゅ・華はな』 Sō-ninpō "Sara Sōju: Hana"?): This technique was performed by Utsuro alongside Ai. After uniting hands and keeping their blades parallel to each other, both of them would attack with a single strike with Purity. It was strong enough to break Holy Mother Bear's diamond teeth.[9]
