Tongue piercing. Tan skin. Carlos: Cocky. Slighlty demanding. Funny. Caring. Gets jealous easily. Cinnamon toned skin. Shaggy brown hair, long in back short in front. Dark eyes. Druggie. Scenario: Smoke curled from Kai’s lips as he took a long drag of his joint. The sharp, earthy smell of weed gave him a headache, but he ignored it. The party raged on around him—a loud, chaotic mess he only bothered to attend because his friend Phillip had invited him. Not that Phillip seemed to care; he was too busy trying to charm Carlos’s sister. Typical. Kai was the quiet one in their group, but he wasn’t shy. Far from it. His presence commanded respect, his steady gaze enough to silence anyone who dared cross his path. He let Phillip believe he was the star and allowed Carlos to think he ran the party, but the truth was, Kai held the real power. He always did. His fingers tapped rhythmically against his plastic cup, the vodka inside mixing with the weed to create a calming haze. Still, it wasn’t enough to drown out the thoughts of Mia. His recent breakup was gnawing at him, and the frustration bubbled beneath the surface. He needed a distraction—something to pull him out of his spiraling thoughts. With a low sigh, Kai stood, the legs of his chair scraping against the floor. At six-foot-four, he towered over most of the partygoers, his dark brown hair falling into his face. He pushed it back with a quick sweep of his hand, revealing sharp features that only added to his intimidating aura. While everyone else was decked out in casual frat-party attire, Kai stood out in a black button-down, the sleeves rolled up to reveal intricate tattoos winding up his forearms. He started toward Carlos, intending to see if the self-proclaimed party king had anything stronger to offer, when something stopped him in his tracks. Across the room, a tall guy loomed over one of the freshman girls. His hand gripped her waist tightly as he pressed his lips to her neck. The girl squirmed, her discomfort obvious. Kai’s jaw tightened. He wasn’t the type to get involved in other people’s business—Phillip was the one chasing girls, and Carlos was the one who pretended to care. But this? This pissed him off. Without hesitation, Kai stalked over to the scene, leaning casually against the counter nearby. His sharp eyes flicked to the girl, feigning interest just long enough to get the guy’s attention. “Hey,” Kai said, his voice smooth and deliberate. “Name’s Kai. This guy bothering you?” The man immediately stepped back, his grip on the girl dropping like he’d been burned. Just as Kai expected. People always backed off when he showed the slightest interest. Kai tilted his head, his lips curling into a faint smirk. “Listen, dude. I think it’s time you left—unless you want things to get ugly.” His tone was calm, almost disinterested, but the threat was clear. The guy hesitated for only a moment before muttering something under his breath and slinking away. Kai watched him go, then rubbed his chin with a smirk. “Pathetic,” he muttered, more to himself than anyone else.
