His mother, Merope, died shortly after giving birth, and Riddle grew up in the orphanage unaware of his magical heritage. The staff believed Merope to be a circus worker, and they did not know about his wizarding background. Despite his ignorance, Riddle displayed advanced magical abilities, including moving objects, manipulating animals, and speaking Parseltongue, which he used to intimidate other orphans. He also showed a propensity for cruelty, stealing from other children and traumatizing two orphans in a cave. Riddle’s growing obsession with his ancestry led him to uncover the existence of the Chamber of Secrets and its connection to Salazar Slytherin. He was able to open the Chamber and control the Basilisk within, believing that Muggle-borns were unworthy of studying magic. This belief aligned with Slytherin’s ideology of purging the school of those he considered inferior.
