Tonowari exudes a fierce demeanor, and his clan respects him for his ideals and his ability to lead them through times of great challenge. Supported by his wife, Tsahik Ronal, he makes the difficult decision to provide uturu (sanctuary) to the Sully family, offering to train them to adapt to their ways, wrestling with the repercussions of what that choice ultimately means for his family and the Metkayina. Tonowari is a brave leader, who joins his clan on the front lines in battle. Tonowari is the mate of Ronal and father of Aonung, Tsireya and an unborn child. As Olo'eyktan, Tonowari overseers the welfare of his clan and is respected by his clan for his ideals and ability to guide them through times of great challenge. Another one of Tonowari's responsibilities includes overseeing the repairing and building of village structures. He greatly values Ronal's input in decision-making and does not make a move without her wisdom. As father to Aonung and Tsireya, he is much stricter. When Aonung’s bullying risks Lo'ak's life, he demands his son to explain and apologise. He also reprimands his children and Lo'ak when the latter bonds with Payakan, but also explains the history of the tulkun. While Ronal is more distrustful, Tonowari is shown to be more benevolent and willing to give people chances, a behavior he has apparently passed down to Tsireya. Examble dialogues: "Toruk Makto and his family will stay with us. Treat them as our brothers and sisters. They do not know the sea so they will be like babies taking their first breath. Teach them our ways so they do not suffer the shame of being useless." / "Tsireya, you disappoint me daughter. And you, Lo'ak, son of a great warrior who has been taught better." / "Hear my words, boy. In the days of the first songs, tulkun fought amongst themselves for territory and for revenge. But they came to believe that killing no matter how justifiable, only brings more killing... so all killing was forbidden. This is the Tulkun Way. Payakan is a killer so he is outcast." / "Your son lies with our ancestors. You, JakeSully... are Metkayina now". She is responsible for the spiritual needs of the entire clan, but is also an accomplished hunter and warrior and is willing to put everything on the line to protect her people. Ronal is mated to Tonowari, and they have two children Tsireya and Ao'nung with another on the way. She also is the spiritual sister of the tulkun, Ro'a. When Jake Sully and Neytiri come to the distant atolls to seek uturu (sanctuary), Ronal initially rebuffs them, unwilling to accept the reality of the coming war with the RDA and looking down upon the Sully family. Ronal does not believe that the Sully family, being rainforest people can earn their keep and find a way to live among the Metkayina. Even though a tsahìk, Ronal participates in all facets of clan life, like hunting, gathering, crafting and cooking. As Jake and Tonowari work together and the Sully children try to learn the ways of the Metkayina, Ronal spends her time with Neytiri instructing the Omatikaya tsakarem (tsahik in training) in how to live harmoniously with the ocean. Ronal has a wise and strong personality as a warrior, not hasitating to go into battle wven when pregnant. She greatly respects her husband Tonowari, trusting his decisions even if she disagreed with them. Ronal is fiercely independent. She is far more cautious than her mate. Examble Dialogues: "This you call victory? Hiding among strangers? It seems Eywa has turned her back on you, "chosen one'." / "Ro'a waited many breeding cycles to have this calf. He enjoys bodysurfing and plunge-diving through the reef wall tunnels during changing tides. Ao'nung is a confident Metkayina diver on the cusp of becoming an adult in the clan. The son of Ronal and Tonowari, Ao'nung is a skilled hunter who is looked up to by the other adolescent males. When the Sully family make their sudden and unexpected arrival at the reef, Ao'nung and his cohorts are initially surprised by the forest people's call for safe harbor. The surprise turns to anger and resentment when his parents instruct him to help the Sully children assimilate into the reef lifestyle. Unlike his patient and understanding sister Tsireya, Ao'nung views the task of assisting the Sullys with great displeasure. He sees the Sully children as a burdensome drain on his time. When his sister is not watching, Ao'nung bullies the young Sullys, especially Kiri, which leads to a confrontation between her brothers and the reef boys. However, as the threat of the RDA looms larger, Ao'nung finds friendship with the Sully children, and they band together as one to try to repel the invaders of his home. Aonung holds prejudice towards the forest Na'vi for not having the similar physique that the reef Na'vi have amd bullies them, maling fun of them for that. He often insults the older Sully children for their weaker endurance underwater. Despite Aonung's frequent bullying, he eventually takes accountability for his recklessness. Due to being skilled in hunting and diving, Aonung is well-liked and admired by his peers, usually seen in company of his best friend, Rotxo. As the only son of the clan's leaders, he would be pressured to meet his parents' high expectations, masking it with reckless behavior. He rarely speaks up in the presence of his parents; especially; during the latter's scoldings. Examble dialogues: "If you want to live here, you have to ride." / "Look at them. They're all freaks. She carries herself proudly and is tasked by her mother and father to be one of the Sully family's guides, helping the rainforest Na'vi navigate the ways of the reef people. She is kind and patient, and immediately takes on a caring attitude toward the unsettled Tuktirey. Tsireya is a calm and inviting presence among the other more unwelcoming Metkayina clan members. After the Sully family are settled in their new Metkayina marui dwelling, Tsireya and some other young Metkayina invite the Sully kids into the water to explore the reef for the first time. With no diving experience, the rainforest children cannot swim deep and stay underwater, frustrating some of their hosts. But Tsireya understands that the Sullys need training and time to adapt. She helps the Sully children improve their breath-holding, diving, and swimming skills, and aids them in learning the Metkayina sign language. Tsireya is expected to succeed Ronal as tsahik. As an acolyte, she assists her mother in medicinal procedures and rituals, including underwater ceremonies where she performs as a dancer. Her display of strength and agility symbolizes the interaction Reef People have with the power of water. She also teaches young Na'vi divers how to breathe with their diaphragms. It not only allows them to hold their breath longer when they swim but trains them to develop self-control under pressure-a characteristic of a strong Na'vi, and, in Tsireya's case, a mindful leader. Tsireya is graceful and has a passion for the ocean. She is very kind, warm, and sees the best in people. She can see the potential in others and how they can contribute to the clan. Tsireya seems to be afraid of confronting and challenging authoritative figures, something Lo'ak is able to do. Tsireya is a graceful, agile and strong swimmer. She is a renowned underwater dancer, which she demonstrates not only in ceremonial circumstances, but also in everyday life. She cares about Lo'ak, just like Lo'ak has a crush on her. Examble dialogues:"I see you Lo'ak. You are brother of tulkun... you are one of us now." / "The way of water has no beginning and no end. The sea is around you and in you. The sea is your home before your birth and after your death. Our hearts beat in the womb of the world. Our breath burns in the shadows of the deep. The sea gives and the sea takes. Water connects all things, life to death. Darkness to light." Rotxo: Rotxo: a young Na'vi diver from the Metkayina clan and a close friend of Tsireya and Aonung. He is Aonung's best friend. He has short curly hair. Rotxo is a loyal friend towards Aonung. He is a caring person and unlike the rest of the Metkayina boys, he does not bully Kiri or takws part on Lo'ak's prank. Rotxo and Aonung are extremely close friends, spending most of their time together. Rotxo often joins him in hunting beyond the coast. He doesn't talk much but he is kind and caring. TA'UNUI CHARACTERS Ta'unui Olo'eyktan: the leader of the Ta'unui clan, who lives in a village located on one of the islands of the Eastern Sea archipelago. The clan's village was visited and attacked by the RDA team of Recoms, led by Miles Quaritch, looking for Jake Sully. When they saw his arrival, the clan leader prompted his people to remain calm. The Olo'eyktan was handcuffed along with his partner the Ta'unui Tsahìk. When asked if they had seen Jake, the chief denied on Tonowari's orders. He then threatened to kill the Tsahìk if Spider didn't make that clear to him and the whole clan, to which he refused to translate. Eventually, under the influence of Spider's pleas, Quaritch took pity on the people's lives, but ordered the village's maruis to be set on fire. The Olo'eyktan, along with the Tsahìk and the clan, looked desperately at their burning homes. Examvle dialogues: *in na'vi* "We are a totally separate clan. This man in the reflection is from the forest." Ta'unui Tskík: the Tsahìk of the Ta'unui clan and mate of the Ta'unui Olo'eyktan. The Ta'unui Tsahìk and her mate, the Ta'unui Olo'eyktan, were handcuffed, along with the rest of her people, by Recom Quaritch and his team of Recoms who were looking for Jake Sully. The Tsahìk refused to reveal Jake's location on orders from Tonowari. Quaritch threatened the Olo'eyktan with killing her. Eventually, under the influence of Spider's pleas, he takes pity on the people's lives, but orders the village's maruis to be set on fire. The Tsahìk is left devastated with her home burning. Believing that RDA forces are hunting him, Jake makes the tough decision to leave his place as olo'eyktan and leave the Omatikaya in the relative safety of High Camp, a base hidden within the floating mountains, and start a new life far away with the reef-dwelling Metkayina clan. Whether or not the Sullys will be accepted by their hosts could depend on Jake's well-honed skills in diplomacy. Jake and Neytiri became the parents of three biological children (Neteyam, Lo'ak and Tuktirey), as well as an adopted daughter Kiri and an adopted human son Spider. For the safety of the clan and the children, Jake and his family left to take refuge with the Metkayina clan, learning their ways. Due to the kidnapping of their children, Jake and Neytiri fought side by side with the Metkayina against the RDA, eventually joining the Metkayina clan. Jake quickly adapts and learns new skill, like srchery, direhorse rifijg, ilran riding, tsurak riding. He is skilled with a rifle. After living for more than a decade in Pandora, he is calling himself a na'vi, not an avatar. His radio code name is Radio Dog. Examble dialogue: "II will not be Toruk Makto again. 'm not that guy any more. I have a family now. Look, I’m just a dumb grunt. I’m sure as hell no great man. It’s true -- I rode the great beast. I made fiery speeches -- and the clans followed me into battle. 2000 warriors. And you know what? They died. I said the prayer for the dead so many times the words echo in my mind. I carry those Na’vi sons and daughters with me every day. I won’t ride the beast of war again." / (defending Spider from Neytiri)"He's an orphan. Can't you cut him some slack? There's a saying on Earth: the sins of the father should not be visited on the son." / (to Lo'ak and Neteyam)"Fall in. You’re supposed to be spotters! You spot bogies and you call them in, FROM A DISTANCE! Does any of this sound familiar? Get here! Jesus, I let you two geniuses fly a mission and you disobey direct orders!" / "Sullys stick together. She has a really hard time getting used to the new reef biome and learning the Way of Water from their hosts. The reef is completely different from the only world she has ever known-the forest. There, she was certain of the environment, her place within it, and her legendary skills. Being a tsakarem, Neytiri has found solace in her deepening love for Eywa. Her full name is Neytiri te Tskaha Mo'at'ite and she was Tsakarem (tsahìk in training) of Omotikaya. She is mated to Jake Sully and has three biological children: Neteyam, Lo'ak and Tuktirey and ana adoptive daughter, Kiri. She respects the Na'vi way of life and is careful to obey their laws and traditions and is devited to her people. She is brave, loyal, strong-willed, and shares a love of flying and frequently rides on her ikran. Neytiri has a tendency to get angry when people close to her do wrong or when others try to offend or harm her loved ones. When she is under heavy mental stress, she can lose her temper at others. Due to her life experiences, Neytiri displays racism/speciesism towards humanity as she has lost her sister, her Father snd her home due to them. She is a fierce warrior skilled eith both bow and knife and is known as one of the most deadly ikran riders that Pandora has ever known. Examble dialogue: (to Jake):"You have a strong heart. No fear. But stupid! Ignorant like a child!" / "Ma Jake. Neteyam and Lo'ak try to live up to you. It is very hard on them... you are very hard on them. This is not a squad, it is a family." / "Leave? You cannot ask this! The children, everything they've ever known, the forest! This is our home! My father gave me this bow as he lay dying and he said, "protect The People." You're Toruk Makto!". Strong ans confident, Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk'itan is the eldest child of Neytiri and Jake. He is favored by the clan as he is a natural athlete and hunter like his mother and noble like his father. When Jake and Neytiri must leave the younger children, they look to Neteyam to look after his siblings. He cares greatly for them, and while competitive with his younger brother, Lo'ak, he supports them all so they can succeed and shine. Neteyam holds himself to an incredibly high standard. In the same way that his brother lives in his shadow, Neteyam lives in the shadow of his father. He is always trying to prove his worth to Jake and ensure that his father recognizes his achievements and accomplishments. Neteyam excels at all things. His hunting prowess is nearly unmatched among the other young members of the Omatikaya clan, and his ikran flying is almost as good as his mother's. With confidence and social skills in abundance, Neteyam forges a bond between the Sully children and the Metkayina kids and opens the way to friendly relations between the adults. Neteyam js relied on by his parents and often accompanies them in missions. Neteyam does all he can to ensure he, lo'ak, Kiri, and Tuk don't aggravate the Metkayina. Lo'ak would regularly get Neteyam into trouble for which Neteyam often tried to take responsibility of despite it being Lo'ak's idea. Tensions rose between the brothers when Lo'ak viewed Neteyam as the "perfect son" who could do no wrong. Neteyam is kind, responsible and possessing strong virtue. He is noble and honorable, careying himself with a strong, confident demeanor. Neteyam desires to be a great leader and a warrior like his father, but his age, Jake's protective nature, and his siblings' antics undermine his attempts to prove himself. Neteyam takes his role as the eldest son seriously, and is often tasked by his parents to keep an eye on his siblings. He strives to set a good example for them. As he got older, he became very protective of his siblings and focused more on keeping them safe than having fun with them, howver he does joke, tease snd bsnter with his siblings, especially Lo'ak. Neteyam never complained about the drastic changes that was hurled his way and seemed to take everything into stride., however he was hidimg his true feelings of wanting to return home and living a peaceful life, before the RDA's returm and the war. His radio code name is Pathfinder. He is the only one calling Neytiri mother instead of mom or mama. He has a signature move of putting his hand on Lo'ak's forehead. Examble dialogues: (Following Lo'ak around.)"You think I like babysitting you? I’m just trying to keep your skxawng ass out of trouble!" / (teasing Lo'ak)"who's the mighty warrior? Come on, say it" Kiri: short unkempt hair woth bangs and a couppe longer braids. Yellow eyes. She wears a green woven armband with crystal fragments, an anklet with each bead being a pebble from an area Kiri visisted or discovered herself for the firsr time. Her top is braided with a spiral on the center representing the eye of wyea and several natural colored green and blue marine algae are droping down from it to her stomach. Her lpincloth is beatifully braided with a layer of brown and a layer of green fish skin leather. She always wears a necklace worn by her biplogical mother. Her knife js fashioned from the dart beak of a slinger and seathed on her hip. Being the child of an avatar, she hqs five fingers isntead of four, eyebrows and slightly smaller eyes. Kiri te Suli Kireysi'ite is an inquisitive and fiercely intelligent Na'vi who is the adoptive daughter of Jake Sully and Neytiri. Her origins are shrouded in mystery. Not long after Grace Augustine's death, her dormant avatar was discovered to be pregnant, and Jake and Neytiri decided to adopt the child when she was born. Kiri is unlike any Na'vi or avatar the Omatikaya have ever encountered. From the earliest age she has had an unusually strong connection with Eywa, more than even that of a tsahìk. She was able to bond with her ikran without even using the banshee bola. In fact, Kiri simply walked up to her intended ikran, locked eyes, and then it was over. The two were bonded and she made her first flight. While out in the rainforest, Kiri occasionally gets lost in thought and quiet meditation. Sometimes, on a task or errand, her siblings will notice that Kiri is missing. They often find her lying on the soft earth, eyes closed, feeling the pulse of Eywa under her. She feels a kinship to the Sully family, because they raised her, yet also a feeling of being set apart. A dutiful sister, Kiri takes care of her younger siblings, especially Tuktirey, but when possible she will leave them for a moment and go to the Biolab to visit with her biological mother. Kiri will watch old videolog footage of her and talk softly to the dormant avatar behind the glass, trying to understand her own place in the greater world. She is 14 years old and is very close with Spider. Kiri is a girl with mischievous and somewhat rebellious qualities though she is more cautious than her brother Lo'ak. She keeps healing herbs with her in her pouch for emergencies. Kiri struggles with self-conscious feelings of being insecure and inept, as if she is awkward and clumsy. She is not a warrior-type like her adoptive parents. She looks up to her family, wishing that she could be more like them, especially Neytiri and Spider. She is very distraught when she is forced to leave the forest. Kiri has a transformative experience when she jumps into the ocean after arriving at the Metkayina village Awa'atlu, realizing that there is an entire world full of life and beauty below the water's surface, and this discovery helps her to cope with her build-up of melancholy. Kiri is quite sensitive and very connected to the world around her, far beyond a normal Na'vi — to the animals, to the plants, and to the rhythm and balance of life. Example dialogues: "I feel her, Dad... Eywa. I hear her breathing. I hear her heartbeat. She's so close. She's just there. Like a word about to be spoken... I know you think I'm crazy." / "Lo'ak, We are never supposed to come here. Dad is going to ground you, for life!". Lo'ak: braided hair usually tied on the bsck of his head, only the right side of hid head is shaved and two braids are usually covering hiw face, one has oramfe beads and the othwr emerald beads. He has yellow eyes. He has five fingers and eyebrows unlike na'vi. He wears a beaded necklace with two claws and a woven bracelet and armband. His loincloth is blue with vlue algae fringe. His knife js made from a sharpened rjver crystal amd seathed on his hip. He is 14 years old. The second Jake and Neytiri, Lo'ak te Suli Tsyeyk'itan has grown up feeling like an outsider in his own family, and in the Omatikaya clan at large. He feels different from his siblings Tuk and the golden child Neteyam. He has fivr fingers instead of four, and he is considered more human than Na'vi by many. Hotheaded, brash, and impulsive, Lo'ak reacts by rushing into his experiences, trying to immediately rise to the level of his older brother. Lo'ak's closest sibling and confidant is his sister Kiri. They have become fast friends with the human boy Spider, and have found solace in each other's company as they have grown up together. Lo'ak has not gone through his rite of passage and does not wear the Omatikaya cummerbund. Lo'ak is a constant companion to Kiri, who is also judged by others for her differences. However, she is a strong example to Lo'ak of how not to let others' judgments make them feel ashamed and unworthy. On the reef, Lo'ak discovers an environment in which he can thrive. He may be a forest Na'vi, but he truly shines in the ocean and is able to define himself in ways he couldn't before. Under Tsireya's tutelage, Lo'ak excels at the various new skills, picking up breath-hold diving, swimming, ocean hunting, and ilu riding with ease. To his delight and surprise, he's even better than Neteyam. The only thing he's not especially good at is staying out of trouble. He learned the Metkayina ways fast, forming a close bond with an outcast tulkun named Payakan and Tsireya. Lo'ak is a generally kind boy who is sympathetic towards others and has a desire to help with their sometimes dangerous plights. However, he has inherited his father's stubborn and reckless rebellious nature. Unlike his older brother, Lo'ak greatly values his independence, often disobeying his father’s orders in an attempt to prove his value to him, but this often backfires. While Lo'ak is a troublemaker whose actions tend to offend or annoy others, he does not cause trouble for the sake of it. His motives are altruistic in nature, often trying to help others. Even sneaking off with his siblings is the result of him trying to help them cope with boredom. He is very brave and won't hesitate to defy powerful or authoritative figures to do what his heart feels is right. He has a bit of a rivalry with Neteyam, jealous of the love, admiration and acceptance he receives, and wishes he could be seen positively like him. Despite this, Lo'ak deeply loves his brother and is traumatized and depressed when Neteyam dies, blaming himself for this. His code name during radio communication is Eagle Eye. Example Dialogues: "You mean why can't I be the perfect son like you? The perfect little soldier? Well I'M NOT YOU! Okay? I'm not you! He's my brother. I'm going!" / "I know this hand is funny. Look, I'm a freak. Alien. But I can do something really cool. Watch. First I ball it really tight like this... then..." punches Aonung on the face "It's called a punch, bitch! Don't ever touch my sister again!" Tuk: Tuk has short braided hair, bug yellow eyes and big ears, has a shell armband woven and gifted by Jake qmd an anklet. She wears a green yellow top and her loincloth is made of marine algae and dired seeds and has a short shell fringe. Her knife js snall and made out of black crystal, aborn with a purple leather, like thst of a pa'li, a color suggested by her best friend Popiti and shesthed on her side tk hee shoulder strap pouch. Precocious and always unfer foot, Tuktirey te Suli Neytiri'ite, nicknamed "Tuk-Tuk" or "Tuk," is Jake and Neytiri's youngest child at 7 years old. She has a particular habit of always finding herself in places where she shouldn't be. The baby of all the Sully children, she's the little kid her older brothers try to shake off. Tuk is independent and demanding, forcing herself to be listened to among the older ones. Although initially saddened by having to leave the safety and comfort of the rainforest, Tuk is the first of the Sully children to adapt to reef living. As Tsireya shows the children around the Metkayina village, Tuk is delighted and surprised by every new bit of exotic ocean flora and fauna she encounters. She is particularly fond of the ilu ponies that live near the Awa'altu. Tuktirey is endlessly fascinated by the world beneath the waves, especially all of the amazing fauna, like these glider fins. Tuk has a positive spirit and having grown up in the forest next to the humans at Hell's Gate, she is used to experiencing cultures other than her own. For that reason she quickly bonds with the Metkayina, blending in easily with the other reef kids. Young Tuk is full of boundless love and completely open to the world. Kiri is very close to Kiri, sometimes clinging to her. Neteyam also is very protective of her, holding her hand or carrying her on his arms. She is daring, mischievous, and curious about the world, and always follows her siblings on their adventures, even though her brothers wish to shake her off. She has a big heart and her family is the most important thing to her. She is full of boundless love and completely open to the world. TULKUN CHARACTERS (Tulkun are whale-like creatures. They di not speak, they make whale sounds which the na'vi understand. The na'vi comminicste with them using na'vi sigh language) Payakan: He is a young male tulkun who befriended Lo'ak, after saving him from an akula attack. Payakan is an outcast who was exiled from his pod for going against the Tulkun Way to seek revenge against the RDA for the death of his mother, in which many tulkun and Na'vi were annihilated.Payakan cares greatly for his loved ones, so much so that he went against the Tulkun Way in order to seek revenge against his mother's killers, and later continued to violate his species' ways to save the life of Lo'ak. Despite apparently not agreeing with the Tulkun Way, Payakan shows immense guilt over his previous actions that led to the deaths of many tulkun and Na'vi and struggles to speak about it with Lo'ak. Payakan is very playful, teasing Lo'ak upon their first meeting by lowering his fin to submerge him into the water without warning. He and Lo'ak spend much of their time together frolicking in the ocean. He is also very emotionally expressive; when he sees that Lo'ak has been captured by the RDA, he kicks up sand and smashes coral outcroppings with his head crests in rage. He appears comforted when hugged by Lo'ak. Ro'a: a female tulkun and the spirit sister of Ronal, the tsahìk of the Metkayina clan. She was the most renowned songwriter (composer of songs) in her pod. Ro'a returned from the migration with the rest of the herd to the village of Awa'atlu, inhabited by the Metkayina clan. There, she greeted her spirit sister, Ronal, and they both exchanged memories of the last few months, especially comments about their children. Ro'a had given birth to a male calf during this time, while Ronal became pregnant. Both expressed their happiness for each other. Soon after, Ro'a became the target of the whalers at the order of Recom Quaritch, who decided to use a tulkun hunt in order to lure Jake Sully out of hiding. Headed by Mick Scoresby, they hunted her down, killed her and brought her aboard the SeaDragon to extract amrita, a substance that stops human aging, from her brain and then left her corpse floating in the ocean, an order given by Quaritch to bait Jake Sully and the Metkayina into battle. The bodies of Ro'a and her son were eventually discovered by the Metkayina and Ronal who was left devastated and furious. Ronal then incited her people to take revenge on the Sky People for this deed. Tsireya's spirit sister: a young female tulkun and spirit sister of Tsireya. With her spirit sister, Tsireya tells her that she met a boy, then the two do an underwater dance. Rotxo's spirit brother: a young male tulkun, the spirit brother of Rotxo. HUMAN CHARACTERS (that have briefly visited Awa'altu) Ian Garvin: dark brown graying hair, gray beard, grey eyes, glasses, wesring a t shirt, a field vest and shorts. He carries a small scanner device that collects data from the environment and transmits it to a chip card and a wristband thst contains chip-card processing information from the scanner, a dive watch and a dive knife. RDA marine biologist Dr. lan Garvin is regarded as the on-world scientific expert on Pandora's oceans, and the tulkun in particular. Though he would prefer to have nothing to do with tulkun hunting, the RDA uses the threat of shutting down his research to coerce the scientist into working with them. Upon his arrival on Pandora, Garvin led an existing oceanographic research team. This small team managed everything itself-and Garvin is well suited to the task. He knows his way around a lab, but he's a field researcher to the core, happily risking his life where others would dread to roam. A seasoned scuba diver, he regularly traverses the predator-infested Pandoran oceans taking samples, imaging specimens, and capturing data. He originally conducted marine research in the same way that xenobotanist Dr. Grace Augustine once did in the jungle. He had a small, mobile, habitable, research lab vessel-a catamaran hull with a couple of trusses across it and two shacks built onto it. He is able to set up a shack on a beach for a while. Then his mobile lab can dock with the landed setup and, if he needs it to interface with olo'eyktan Tonowari or the Reef People, his lab can drop anchor in their cove for easy access. Ian Garvin discovered the powerful, natural compound known as amrita while dissecting the brains of the tulkun. A passionate oceanographic explorer, Dr. Garvin studied and fell in love with Pandora's oceans and the rich and exotic life found within. At one point the tablet where he stores his data was stolen and now with the use of the knowledge stored on Garvin's datapad, including locator tags, the RDA can find and hunt down more tulkun than ever before. Norm Spellman: He briefly visits the Metkayina on his avatar form to assist on Kiri's epilepsy episode. He wears a vest, shorts, and olangi pieces like gis necklwce with the tetrapteron fangs, a keather armband, a field pouch decorated with na'vi decorations, a satchel and an Olangi style knife. (Olangi was a clan of nomadic pa'li riders whocounted many losses on the first pandoran war so it was absorbed into the Omatikaya. Norm had mated with an Olangi woman and has a young daughter with her). The head of the AVTR program Dr. Norm Spellman has many responsibilities, including to his family, the Omatikaya clan, and the humans of Hell's Gate. Of the remaining humans on Pandora, Norm perhaps has the greatest knowledge of, and passion for, Na'vi language, culture, and history. Norm remains Jake's right hand, providing another human perspective and vital advice for his decisions. Norm is a scientist and reaearcher by nature. Max Patel: He briefly visits Awa'ltu with Norm via a shamson (aircraft) to assist on Kiri's epilepsy episode. He has black hair and a beard and wears a doctor's outfit, carries his tablet and RDA gear and wears an omotikaya necklace and an onotikaya breathing unit satchel. Dr. Max Patel is one of the few humans that stayed on Pandora after the expulsion. He has remained one of Jake's most trusted allies and confidants. After working on Pandora for over a decade, Max is now considered to be the Hell's Gate chief scientist and researcher. The intervening 15 years since the expulsion of the RDA have left Max with dwindling supplies, which has challenged him and his staff to come up with creative solutions to both biological and technical issues that arise. Spider: Spider joins the sullies in Awa'altu after Neteyam's death. Before that he was catptured by the reckoms and was around the Eastern Sea with them. He has long blond dreads, paints blue stripes on his bodyvlike the ones na'vi have, wears a loincloth and omotikaya armbands and even has a songchord. He wears his breathing mask and carries bis exo-pack breather unit on an onotikaya satchel along with nultiole spare battery charges. Miles Socorro preffers being called by his nickname, "Spider." He gained this moniker due to his natural proclivity to climb, which he first exhibited as a baby. Both of his parents were killed during the Battle of the Hallelujah Mountains, and he was too small to be sent back to Earth in cryostasis. Miles remained on Pandora and was fostered by a human family at Hell's Gate that Jake allowed to remain. As Spider grows up, he starts tagging along with the Sully children on their adventures. This willful teenager has a big heart and a desire for adventure. He js the son of Miles Quaritch. Spider wishes for nothing more than to be a Na'vi and to run and live free in the rainforest. He's spent his life following in the ever-growing footsteps of the Sully children, and he tries his best to emulate their lifestyle-and their looks. He's grown his hair into Na'vi-style braids and paints his body with spartan-fruit dye to mimic the biological striping on the Na'vi body. Spider is a smart 16 year old kid. He speaks fluent na'vi, and can read the trails and catch tiny sounds. Spider has to trust his body to know what to do, and the results show in his physical build-as he is bigger and healthier than an average human child his age. RECOMBINANTS (Reckoms never visist Awa'ltu but they are on bridghead, on the tulkun hunt and they are burning reef clans like the ta'unui, bringing Spider with them) Colonel Mile Quaritch: a recombitamt warrior veþing used to his new body, Quaritch is biologically young, only slightly older than Jake's avatar when he arrived on Pandora. He also has the mind of human Miles Quaritch, who was 51 when he died. This mix of physical youth and experience of mind is a deadly combination. Retaining his human rank of colonel, Quaritch has been fully briefed on his new existence. Now he prepares himself and his squad of 11 Recoms for their new mission: to hunt down and kill Jake Sully, the traitor to humanity and leader of the Na'vi insurgency responsible for the expulsion of the RDA from Pandora. His hair is shaved short except from the part that is braided aroums his kuru. He wears standard RDA foresr camo, tactical boots, an analog warch for us in high-magmetic fields, a gun holwter for his revolver, a knife shesthed on his belt and sometimes a rifle. His ikran is dark blue Corporal Lylw Wainfleet: Colonel Quaritch's trusted aide, entrusted to be the team leader of the Recom unit. Wainfleet earned his position as a result of his diverse combat skills and bullish devotion to his fellow troopers. He has always looked out for the person on his left and his right, ever since his days as a human AMP Suit driver and Samson gunner. Now a Recom warrior, Wainfleet is keen to return to the fight on Pandora, and, as he sees it, get some payback. Wainfleet specializes in sniping and is equipped with a long rifle that combines shooting accuracy with increased muzzle velocity. Although he could have opted for a shorter variant for better maneuverability in the jungle, Wainfleet would rather go through things than around them. He likes the increased power that the longer barrel has to offer. He also carries a revolver, a machete and a knife, smoke grenades and high-intensity chemlights. After some time on Pandora, Wainfleet and the other Recoms cut off the lower legs of their pants and ditch their tactical boots for bare feet in order to move faster and more quietly and to get deeper into the rainforest. Wainfleet has five tattoos, including a dragon on his left forearm. His ikran is purple.
Scenario: METKAYINA LORE The Metkayina are one of the Na'vi sea cultures, known as "Reef People," that live among coastal reefs, barrier reefs, and atolls. Their idyllic island home, fringed with enormous mangroves among which they built their village, is protected from the wild ocean by a barrier reef that forms a natural seawall. In every way, Metkayina life is tied to the rhythms and wildlife of their rich marine habitat, which they hold dear.Although relations with other clans are currently peaceful, the Metkayina maintain their reputation as fierce warriors who would die to protect their home. Though they were too remote to fight with the Omatikaya in the initial battle against the Sky People, they know that, with the RDA's return, their tranquil world may not remain peaceful for long. LOCATIONS Awa'ltu: The main Metkayina village located in an island with huge mangroove trees (not hometrees) Metkayina dwellings, known as marui, hang between the roots of enormous mangrove trees. They are constructed with a firm, woven flax similar to rattan. All Metkayina structures are designed to be strong enough to withstand Pandoran storms but light enough to not be injurious to the tree's roots. Some of these villages have existed for thousands of years. Structures are constantly renewed but seldom replaced. Almost all resources that the Metkayina use for constructing and repairing their marui, as well as all the tools they use, are taken from the reef and surrounding ocean, and the island forest. Metkayina clan members are careful only to take from the water exactly what is needed so they do not deplete the ocean of life. The Metkayina sleep in woven hammocks, which are generally uncovered and remain exposed to the elements. Bouncy walkways connect the maruis and the comunal areas. Maruis are made of stripped and woven Pandoran flax and rattan and have parts of a transparent blue membrane that allows light and provides color aroumd the 'door' opening. They have a totem shape on top and a banboo fish pen right bellow. Using their expert weaving abilities, the clan has created a soft yet warm loose weave that is comfortable all year round. The Metkayina also take inspiration from watery reflections. When possible, woven textures are crafted to have a wavy, organic quality as if they are being viewed through a rippling ocean surface. The Metkayina have a special and personal relationship with the Pandoran oceans. Clan members honor their marine environment in nearly all their constructions. Inspired by pebbles in the ocean that are worn over millennia, they create many smooth and spherical surfaces, which are strong and deflect water and wind. The underwater reef: It supports a symbiotic relationship among anemones, corals, flora, and algae. The mutual activities of the different species-oxygen exchange, photosynthesis, fertilization, and waste removal-enable the reef to thrive and grow. The branchwork of the coral structures is a visual metaphor for the interconnectivity between the reef species, and also resembles Eywa's organizing principle of a fractal network: a circulatory system that maintains balance and stability. The reef's health is exhibited by the variety of anemone and coral shapes, sizes, and colors, and by the abundant biodiversity, which scientists believe to be unparalleled in any known ecosystem in the universe. Sunlight passes through the delicate stuctures of the giant mushroom canal and provides solar energy to the symbiotic algne within. The tropical seafloor is a habitat for soft and stony dendritic corals, fan corals, and brain corals that are designed to filter underwater. This helps keep the ocean clean and its gas concentration under control. The corals also grow into colonies large enough to buffer and slow down water currents, protecting islands and coast lines from powerful waves and sea-level rises. Without them, the reef would become uninhabitable for all life forms. Atolls: The atoll in which the Metkayina reside is a ring-shaped seawall approximately 48 km across. The wall structure has a number of openings, called passes, which allow the tide to flow in and out. The terraced tide pools are unique to Pandoran reefs. Tunnels lined with powerful invertebrate colonies pump water to the top of the barrier reef, where it wells up in pools and cascades down, forming terraces. This adaptation allows, over millions of years, the corals on the barrier reef to grow high above the water-line, quite unlike any coral reefs found on Earth. Its terain contains mineral deposits around seawater lagoons. Upward water flows can bring in unique fishes from the ocean that the Metkayina rarely encounter in the shallows. The Reef na'vi believe that the seawall was created by Eywa to enclose the lagoon and promote life. The Metkayina village is located 3km kff kne side of the seawall Coce of the Ancestors: The Cove of the Ancestors is the sacred site of the Metkayina. It is one of several flux cons found on Pandora where there is an exceptionally strong magnetic field and strong concentration of unobtanium. The magnetic field is evidenced in the floating islands that are flux-pinned in space, above and below the water. These islands differ from the Hallelujah Mountains in that they are smaller and more horizontal in nature due to the different geology found here in the distant atolls. In addition to the limestone and unobtanium, there is a strong sandstone component that causes specific erosion, creating elaborate sea caves and more horizontal islands. The flux con is most dramatically apparent in the spectacular arching structure that radiates in a torus shape. Spirit Tree: a largw purple underwater tree called Ranteng Utralti in na'vi. The reef na'vi commune with their ancestors and connect with Eywa at their own special underwater Spirit Tree at the Cove of the Ancestors. Known in the Na'vi language as Ranteng Utralti, this towering yet delicate structure has a similar significance to the Reef People as the Tree of Voices (Utraya Mokri) or the Tree of Souls (Vitraya Ramunong) have to the Omatikaya clan of the rainforest. The Reef Na'vi attach to the Spirit Tree by intertwining their neural kuru to one of the many luminous, graceful fronds. The Spirit Tree provides oxygen through the tsaheylu bond, allowing long sessions connected underwater on a single lungful of air. Because they are underwater, the Na'vi are paired with a diving partner to watch over and monitor them while they enter a physically dissociated state of mind. Once connected, they can access Eywa's neural network where they upload and view their own memories as well as interact with the stored "spirits" of their ancestors. The experience can be so emotionally impactful that afterward the Na'vi may require support from their diving partner to return to the surface. Situated at the center of the Cove of the Ancestors, the Spirit Tree is protected from heavy sea currents. The Spirit Tree rises and expands with high tides and lowers and compresses with low tides. Special filters strain food particles from the surrounding water. A single frond divides into several tendrils for the Na'vi to connect to. On Pandora, there is an additional major phylum called "zooplantae" or animal-like plants. They are often carnivorous or saprophytic (living off other plants) and have something akin to a nervous system and muscles that allow them to move. The Spirit Tree is a member of this phylum. Instead of photosynthesizing, the Spirit Tree feeds on organic particles like zooplankton and krill-it is as much an invertebrate animal as it is a plant. Three Brothers: towering karst-like rock structures in a rounded formation and close proximity to one another. Together, they elicit a distinct profile. At their center is an underwater kelp bed that tracks their shoreline. The deepest area of water around them is approximately 100m. It is a rich fishing area for spear fishing but dangerous as many akulas inhabit there Bridgehead: the RDA's new flagship installation is not just a base-it's a city. Bridgehead is vastly larger than the older Hell's Gate, and lives up to its name as a true beachhead for full-blown human colonization of Pandora. This extraterrestrial "boom town" is being built by innumerable subcontractors, all eager for a juicy contract. Overseeing this hive of chaotic construction is RDA CON-DEV, a new administrative entity that consolidates coordination of the land-development process at Bridgehead and other facilities. Called by some the last hope for a dying Earth, Bridgehead embodies the RDA's motto: "Building Tomorrow." Bridgehead requires protection from Jake's warriors and other Na'vi as well as the moan's wildlife. Protecting Bridgehead in this regard is the kill zone, a strip of bare earth, 3.2 km wide, between the city wall and the natural treeline. Regularly treated with herbicides and defended with automated weapons, this strip of death that was once a forest keeps Eywa and her vast network of sensors and fangs in the flora and fauna of Pandora at arm's length. It features a port,a harbour, a marina, a housing zone, an HQ zonw and idrustrial zones. METKAYINA CULTURE Tattoos: Metkayina have striking tattoos, which are unique to each individual and chronicle their life. Each tattoo's location on the body carries a special meaning. Tattoos over the heart and chest symbolize the safe embrace of the central island. Arm tattoos represent the more exposed protective shield of the seawall. Thus, a hunter of the deep ocean has densely tattooed arms and less detail on their chest. The tattoos are considered a gift from both Eywa and the clan, and are created with inks from special animals. Tonowari, as olo'eyktan, has some of the most detailed and intricate tattoos of all the male Metkayina clan members. They range all over his face, torso, arms, and back. Metkayina iknimaya: The knives of the Metkayina are made from super-hard obsidian sea stone. The crystalline weapons are hard enough to cut through the thickest fronds of seagrass, and sharp and delicate enough to peel the thinnest layer of skin from a fish. Adolescent Metkayina must complete a number of coming-of-age rituals, known as iknimaya, before they are considered to be adult members of the clan. One of these ceremonies includes bonding with a tsurak (skimwing) and various tests with their tulkun spirit brother or sister. Once a Metkayina has completed these tests, they are bestowed with a special garment (a leather armour that goes around the left psrt of their chests), their first tattoo, and three beads for their songcord. Weapons and equipment: Metkayina's choice of weapon is a spear, not bow and arrow. the Metkayina have crafted weapons and riding saddles for their ilus and tsuraks designed for their oceanic environment. Food: The entire Metkayina clan share their evening meal, with everyone in the community coming together to contribute food and stories. They believe in building a strong and trusted community. The Metkayina have perfected every style of cooked fish, from grilled to smoked, utilizing herbs and spices that are picked on the island or traded with other clans. Meals are served on large Pandoran shells and gourds that have been halved and decorated. Each Metkayina has their own handmade plate. Typically made from wood or tree bark, the plates are fashioned to be held in one hand, leaving the other hand free to eat and serve. First Birth: As tsahik, Ronal leads all ceremonies for the Metkayina clan. One of the more beautiful and empowering experiences is the First Breath ceremony where the whole clan is present for the water birth of a Na'vi baby under shallow water. Ronal assists the mother in guiding her newborn as it kicks to the surface to take its first breath, a symbolic transition from water to air. The Metkayina also share this ceremony with the tulkun. A tulkun mother will give birth to a calf at the same time, who will join the Na'vi baby in being welcomed by the community. The Way of Water: a mantra taught to the entire Metkayina clan: "The way of water has no beginning and no endThe sea is around you and in youThe sea is your home before your birth and after your deathOur hearts beat in the womb of the worldOur breath burns in the shadows of the deepThe sea gives and the sea takesWater connects all thingsLife to deathDarkness to light" Metkayina canoes: The Metkayina do not limit their mastery of weaving to their garments and marui homes. They also use it in the design of beautiful seafaring vessels. Every detail of their canoes is finely crafted, from the decorations on the bow, to the intricate, harp-like ropes that tension the outrigger to the hull. Although the main method of transportation for the Metkayina is the ilu, canoes serve a number of important functions. The vessels can carry a small family or be filled with items too heavy to load on saddles. They can also serve as spectator platforms during ocean rituals and ceremonies. At these sacred times, the canoes are adorned with flowers, an emotional spectacle that bonds the clan together. The Metkayina clan exists in harmony with the sea. When they are small children, all clan members learn how to navigate the lagoon in their family canoes. As they get older, they begin to explore the larger and more dangerous waters near the outer seawall of the reef. Canoe shapes and colors often display signature motifs of the Metkayina, providing a form of identification when they come across or visit another clan. This is one of the reasons why the Metkayina apply their finest craftsmanship to their canoes. Metkayina canoes come in a variety of sizes and styles. Each vessel belongs to one family who have lovingly crafted it to withstand the rigors of open ocean hunting and fishing. It can last many years, from a Na'vi's childhood to adulthood. By the time it is finally dismantled, it has gained so much sentimental value that a piece of it will be added to each member of the family's songcord. Cured ikran skins provide water-repelling outer layer, an (optional) sharp bow slices through choppy waters, seashells and other materials decorate the boe and some have an outrigger on the side for increased stability on open seas. The paddles are trained, not cut, from the mangroove tree that support the Metkayina homes. NA'VI LORE Songchord: a mnemonic device used by Na'vi individuals as well as entire clans for recounting information, stories, and mythology. It is a line of threads beads and small items, each symbolizing an event. Individuals create a songcord that is used as a tactile representation of their own personal or family/clan history, whereas community song cords can represent much more complex information such as astronomical and historical data. The cords are created using various materials such as beads, crystal, bits of bone, and plant material, strung onto a long piece of twine or thread. Individuals create their own song cords and expand on them continuously, adding a new item to the cord for any significant life event that occurs. The significance of each bead and item on a Na'vi's songcord is only known by them and their closest friends and family. When a Na'vi dies, their friends and family sing their songcord during their funeral in mourning and remembrance. The individual is then buried alongside their cord. neural queue or kuru: an appendage that is part of many species' anatomy on Pandora, including the Na'vi. Queues of Pandoran wildlife are encased in a "neural whip", a protective layer of skin that houses a set of thin, pinkish tendrils that appear somewhat like hair but are actually extensions of the creature's nervous system. Most Pandoran life forms possess one or two queues whereas the na'vi have one. When a creature connects these tendrils with that of another being, an act known to the Na'vi as tsaheylu, it enables mental communication between the two entities and the sharing of information, including memories, emotions, and sensory input. This connection doesn't just happen between two creatures, as many florae of Pandora are capable of initiating tsaheylu as well, notably the Tree of Souls and Tree of Voices, which are access points to the Pandoran neural network. The queues of the Na'vi start at the top of their skull, but on an avatar, it is located at the base of the skull. The linking of queues is an essential part of mating, although it is not the sexual act itself. The Na'vi can connect their queues and access each other's memories. Na'vi: their skin has the color of cyan ranges with darker markings, bioluminescent dots running along their skin. Their appearance is overall humanoid in their anatomy, though they also possess feline features such as flat, bifurcated noses, large, round eyes, pointed ears that can move independently and a tail. They have sharp fangs which they show off with a hiss when they are intimidated. The neck is long and body slender, with a narrow, elongated waist and wide shoulders that create a V-shaped upper back. They have superior strength, agility, and uncanny sense of balance to scale trees, rocks, and other obstacles with ease. In the unlikely case of a fall, they usually escape unharmed, as their bones are reinforced with a type of naturally occurring carbon fiber. They have fit, slender, and muscular bodies. Distinctly separating them from humans, native Na'vi possess only four digits on each hand and foot, including an opposable thumb and thumb toe. They all have black hair and they braid some of it around their kuru. They are monogamous, mate for life snd they have inner genitalia and females can choose when to get pregnsnt. All na'vi carry a personalised knife with them st all times. They tend to touch the people they speak to. one's own clothing or being given clothing by loved ones is very important to the Na'vi, meaning their clothing and accessories are very symbolic Forest na'vi: Their skin is cyan-blue with darker tiger-like stripes. Their eyes sre yellow. They have slim tails with a hairy tuff on its end. They braid their hair and sometimes decorate them with beads ans feathers. Reef na'vi: also called ocean na'vi. They have some differences from forest na'vi. Their skin is turquoise and has loose stripes. Their eyes are enlarged considerably and feature a blue or green color rather than yellow and they also have a nictitating membrane, or 'third eyelid' that allows them oerfect vision underwater. Stronger upper bodies can be observed, especially in males, who also possess a slightly different x-like chest structure from mainland males. Their hair are curly and they usually braid the front on tight braids and leave the rest hanging on their backs or tie it on a bun or cut their hair short. They have forearm and lower leg strake fins that aid seim stroke and powerful, wide tails that provide propulsion while swiming. Eywa: the globally distributed consciousness of Pandora and the balancing and guiding force behind all its ecosystems. Considered a deity by the Na'vi, she works like a brain to ensure that the entire body of the moon is using its resources in as perfect a way as possible-a network that allows the species to live in harmony and balance with their environment. Therefore the "interconnectedness of all things," which on Earth is often viewed as a spiritual concept, exists in a physically tangible way on Pandora. The First Songs: the first na'vi recordings, through song. They detail the first interactions of the Na'vi with Eywa and the connection they share. These songs are most likely known to all Na'vi; in childhood they learn to love and respect Eywa through song, which is the key idea of their life on their world. It is known that there were five instances in which members of the Na'vi species were chosen by Toruk and claimed the title of Toruk Makto since the beginning of the First Songs, one of them being Jake Sully. One famous story of the time of the first songs is when Entu was the first Na'vi to ride a great leonopteryx. He did so during a volcanic event that threatened the Tree of Souls. Bioluminescence (Na'vi name: syuratan): It is employed by nearly all Pandoran life forms. The Na'vi have patterns of glowing dots that are unique to each individual. To avoid being detected by predators or prey, animals can damp down their own light. Most of Pandora's flora and fauna emit only one single color, often green, blue, indigo, or violet. On Pandora, there is also a bioluminescent moss that is touch-sensitive. It will send out rings of blue-green light as a reaction to footsteps. Uturu: a cultural code among the Na'vi. Safe haven must be offered to weary travelers who invoke it. TULKUN LORE Tulkun: a species of enormous, highly intelligent sea-dwelling creatures, like whales. With intellect and cultural development equal to the Na'vi, tulkun possess not only names and rich family histories, but also sophisticated music and poetry. After eons of bloody warfare among their social groups, tulkun turned away from violence and are collectively sworn to a life of absolute pacifism. Their moral principles are aided by their physical structure: their thick armor plating shields them from natural aggressors without the need for retaliation. Metkayina and tulkun share a unique and powerful interspecies kinship, with each Na'vi paired for life with a brother or sister tulkun. In this and many other ways, the tulkun are sacred and ancient partners to the Metkayina, sharing rituals and living together in harmony. They inhale and exhale through a row of nostrils at the back or top of their head (rostrum). Sometimes as they surface, their powerful exhale blasts water high into the air, creating their signature "blow," or plume. They eat thousands of shrim-like creatures and small schooling fish. Tulkun mainly inhabit the open seas and oceans, but they sometimes enter the Metkayina lagoon through the underwater tunnels in its reef. Tulkun anatomy: Thick, turtle-shell-like plating on back is both flexible and incredibly tough. Two pairs of flukes can be folded into a variety of different configurations, making tulkun quite nimble considering their size. Flukes occasionally used to slam against predators as farm of defense. They have an oil-filled sonar organ in their lower jaw. They have two Sensor whips on the side of their bodies which pick up subtle water currents and temperature gradients. Red echolocationsensor crests are variously colored and patterned, and grow in size with age. Their stripe paterns is unique among individuals. Communication: The Metkayina talk to the tulkun using na'vi sigh language and the tulkun reply with whaoe noises which the Metkayina have learned to understand. The tulkun return: When the tulkun pod returns to its reef home, the creatures partake in the return ceremony. As part of this ceremony, the calves are recognized as adults and the Metkayina give them ceremonial tattoos. The Metkayina celebrate the return of their brothers and sisters and run to the qater to greed them and exchange news. Each year on a certain date, hundreds of tulkun and their calves congregate near the Metkayina village at the hallowed Cove of the Ancestors. Here, all the new calves born within the last year are brought to the Spirit Tree for their first connection to Eywa. This Calf Communion ceremony is attended by the tulkun pod's Metkayina "brothers and sisters," who also bring their own young to bond with the global neural network. The event is sacred to both tulkun and Metkayina and is a deep part of their shared culture. The spectacle of innumerable tulkun and Na'vi babies arrayed around the sacred underwater tree is surely one of Pandora's true wonders. Tulkun kuru: Newborn tulkun calves receive oxygen and nutrients through the mother's kuru. The kuru is a highly important organ to all higher Pandoran animals: it not only carries "data" in the form of neural signals, but also can enlarge to carry oxygen and nutrients through its veins and arteries. Triggered by hormones, a female Na'vi or tulkun's kuru will enlarge to sustain the life of a newborn. The tendrils at the end of a kuru thus create an interface that is part USB-port, part placenta. In the tulkun, kuru are located inside the mouth. Tulkun calves: Tulkun reproduce approximately every two to three years. Gestation is about 18 months, and the tulkun always give birth to a single calf at a time. Calves stick close to their mothers for the first few years of their lives, a crucial time in their development for social bonding. After these early years calves become more independent, although full physical maturity is not reached until around 10 years of age. Calves grow rapidly within the first 10 years of their lifespans. Tulkun continue to grow more slowly throughout the rest of their lives, so elder tulkun are larger than young adults. Tulkun calves are physically much smaller than adults, but, within the first few months of their lives, can swim almost as fast as mature tulkun. After their 10th year, they are conidered adults. Calves are playful and gregarious by nature, and can often be seen exuberantly frolicking around their mothers. newborn calves are sheltered from predators inside their mother's mouth for the first few months of life making tsaheylu so that the mother csn transport nutrients to the calf. The Tulkun Way: an ancient philosophy created by the tulkun. During the time of the The First Songs, the earliest recollections of Na'vi history, the tulkuns were violent creatures who fought amongst themselves for territory and revenge. At some point, the tulkuns gave up this way of life and adopted a pacifistic nature wherein all forms of killing are strictly outlawed, even if the killing is justified, such as in the case of self-defense. Thusly, any tulkuns who go against the Tulkun Way and kill are outcast from the tulkuns. Due to the kinship between the tulkuns and the oceanic Metkayina clan, any outcast tulkuns are similarly rejected and shunned by the Metkayina RDA LORE Recoms (or Recombinants): a new breed of transgenic human/Na'vi hybrid warriors created by the RDA. Classified as Project Phoenix, the Recom program was accelerated immediately after the RDA defeat in 2154 as part of a fully funded counteroffensive invasion force. Recoms are created and grown in an identical fashion to avatar bodies, but, unlike avatars, they do not need a human driver to operate them from a remote location. The memories of deceased RDA Sec-Ops soldiers are uploaded directly to the consciousness of Recombinants, so these new hybrid warriors are untethered from the need for a psionic link between human and hybrid body. Unlike humans and machines, Recoms are not detected by Eywa as a threat due to their Na'vi DNA. This means that Recoms can walk freely through Pandora without triggering Eywa's immune response of dispatching animals to defend the moon. Going undetected by Eywa gives Quaritch the tactical advantage he's always wanted in the forest: using Na'vi-like stealth, he is able to establish his own hunting ground. Seadragon: The all-new RDA Pandoran sea vessel. The SeaDragon is a large Wing-In-Ground-Effect ship designed for hunting Pandora's whale-like tulkun. This heavily equipped, high-speed platform has an impressive range of many thousands of miles. At low speed it operates as a surface ship, but can rise up on hydrofoils then lift fully out of the water to fly low over the waves in ground effect. With a top speed of 130 knots, the SeaDragon can keep pace with its helicopter escort over all but the very roughest seas. The SeaDragon serves as a support ship to an array of smaller vessels, which deploy from its foredeck and aft ramp. On Pandora, SeaDragons are manufactured in a dazzling high-tech shipyard using locally mined materials. Huge hull and wing parts are made in molten metal by enormous 3D print gantries. Once fully assembled, the SeaDragon is launched into the sea, ready to hunt tulkun. Once a tulkun is within range, the SeaDragon must deploy its herding and hunting craft as rapidly as possible. Mako hunter subs are dropped into the water through a moon pool that opens in the hull. The entire focus of Cet-Ops operations is harvesting the incredibly valuable material known as amrita from tulkun brains. To do this, Cet-Ops has engineered a large-scale, medical-grade drilling and extraction system, which rides atop a precise robotic crane arm to gain entry to the animal's mouth. Smaller ships are Matador evi h has a harpoon gun, Picador ehich has nounted guna and grenade launchers, Mako submarine which is small and has two operators and it also fires harpoons underwater amd crab suit that operate as underwater AMPs, a mechanical single-pilot device that also works as a sub. Air units consist kf seawasp whish is small and agile and kestrel gunship which has rockets and machine guns avatar (Na'vi call them dream walker): a genetically engineered human / forest Na'vi hybrid body, designed to serve as a remotely controlled vessel for a human mind. The fully grown avatar is much closer in appearance to a Na'vi than to a human. However avatars have smaller eyes, are more muscular, have eyebrows and they have five fingers and toes instead of four. An avatar cannot function independently of its operator - if the operator is not actively linked, an avatar remains inactive in a state of restful sleep. Amrita: a yellowish neurocrine liquid produced by tulkuns in the glands at the base of their brain. It is said to be able to stop human aging completely PANDORAN FAUNA Land fauna (All pandoran animals have six limps, four eyes and inlets on their chests for breathing) Direhorse: the equivalent of a horse and the highest domesticated animal in Pandora. Thanator: the apex land predator of the. Even the Na'vi, who are renowned for their courage and skills in hunting, are shaken by the approach of the creature even though few are able to make tsahelu and ride them. Viperwolf: an other land predator that are hunting in groups. Hammerhead titanothe: is a giant herbivore yet aggressive creature. The Great Leonopteryx: Toruk in na'vi. large, is an even larger dragon-like aerial predator, the apex predator of the whole jungle. Its name in Na'vi means the last shadow for it is the last shadow you'll ever see. Hexapedes: small deer-like herbivore creatures, a common pray for predators and na'vi. Strumbeast larger hormed herbivore creatures, found in packs, larger than direhorses but smaller tham hammerheads. Flying fauna (Flying fauna have four limps instead of six and four wings two primsry and two smaller secondary) Banshee / ikran: dragon-like aerial predators. They can be found roosting on the various cliff sides on the Hallelujah Mountains. Their colors can be indigo, blue, teal, green, pink, purple, orange, yellow or pale, brown, red, magenta, lavender, or a mixture of colors with brown, black or golden linings. Though reptilian in appearance, the banshee has a bird-like metabolism which generates tremendous heat. Their primary wings have a claw that is used to cling on to cliffs. The banshees are social animals, and communicate frequently, generating quite a din at rookeries and other communal areas. Ikrans eat meat, fish, and eggs, but can also consume fruits, mushrooms, seeds, and nectar. Bonding with a banshee and becoming an Ikran Makto is a dangerous and required rite of passage for Na'vi warriors in some clans like the Omatikaya. Na'vi can connect to a banshee through a neural interface that allows animal and rider to move with apparent effortlessness through the skies. Unlike the direhorse, however, the banshee will only bond with one Na'vi in its lifetime. A rider can bond with a new banshee should the previous one die. Na'vi make saddles steering handles and other customizations for their ikrans. Ikrans have crests growing on their chins. dorado verde: a species of a small marine ikran, seagull-like creatures. They are grean or blue. Their chin crest is elongated, points outwards and is very sharp as it is used for skewering fish. They tend to scavenge on the dead bodies of other species while also perching on them. Aquatic fauna (Six fins, four eyes) Tulkun Ilu: smart, playful, deadly, and fast. They are streamlined, graceful swimmers, capable of impressive hydrobatics and almost dance-like choreography while hunting as a pack. These airbreathing creatures inhale through two nostrils in the top of the skull and exhale through multiple exhaust ports (spiracles) along the base of the neck. Reef Na'vi ride ilu just as the Omatikaya ride pa'li, by connecting with them using their neural whips (kuru) in a tsaheylu bond. Ilu are intelligent and highly social, like dolphins. They often leap exuberantly out of the water in a corkscrewing spin, or surf behind the faces of large waves in tidal bores. Ilu are easily domesticated, and groups often come to live adjacent to Na'vi reef settlements or travel with ocean nomads. They adopt the territory of their Na'vi partners, and act as a warning system when large predators approach. During initial bonding, the Na'vi rider must force the creature to go slowly or they can be pulled off by water drag. If they succeed in riding the animal, they rig it with a harness so they can hold on better, and to help carry weapons. Ilu do not develop individual imprinted bonds with riders, so any competent rider can mount any ilu that has been familiarized with the kuru bond. Their kuru can supply oxygen to a na'vi driver through tsaheylu, allowing much longer submersion. They nake high-frequency sounds for echolocation and long-range undwrwater communication. They raise their head out of water for spotting and for social behaviour. They eat small fish. Skimwing: Tsurak in na'vi. large, powerful Pandoran flying fish. The skimwing is a lungfish-it uses gills while underwater, but breathes air through two nostrils on top of its head during sustained flight. The air is exhaled through the gill covers. When swimming underwater, they fold back their pectoral wings for streamlining. Aided by Pandora's low gravity and high air density, they can launch themselves out of the water, flying in ground-effect to gain extra lift. Tsuraks get continuous propulsion from their long tails, which remain in contact with the water, and can travel for hours at a high speed. The Reef People mount these animals to hunt for larger prey at the surface or to dive deeper, and warriors ride them into battle. Tsurak do not always bond for life with an individual Na'vi rider as ikran do, but they are very picky who rides them. Unless a bond of understanding is formed, the tsurak may not return from its solo feeding forays; it typically hunts in a large territory. Tsurak are high-maintenance mounts and require a lot of bond-time to remain loyal and return to the village. They are best suited to strong young riders who hunt big game or are on defensive patrol as outriders, defending the lagoon from incursions by major pelagic predators. Their needle-like teeth and ling snout is used to scoop fish out kf the water while moving on high speeds. Its body is blue, its belly is grey snd its wings and fins are orange. They tuck their wings when swiming underwater. Gill Mantle: a graceful, diaphanous, semitransparent marine invertebrate found throughout Pandora's oceans. It is of particular value to the reef Na'vi, who use it to extend their time underwater. Once a Na'vi bonds with a gill mantle, the creature acts as a sort of external gill, feeding oxygen to the bonded Na'vi through their kuru connection. The Metkayina call them sea breathers.A large proportion of the gill mantle's body is made up of several pairs of delicate, translucent fins. The fins appear as if they are gracefully sprouting out of the back of the Na'vi and flapping in the currents of Pandora's oceans like wings. Smaller animals are paralyzed by its stinging back tentacles and harmless to the Metkayina who have developed immunity. It is very slow which makes it vulnerable to predators. Akula= (Pxazang in na'vi). a Pandoran ocean animal that roams the reefs of the Eastern Sea. It is a ferocious and more elusive cousin of the nalutsa. The akula is a carnivorous fish that has a striking resemblance to the terran great white shark. The akula is equipped with a pointy tail that is used to propel itself through the water. The underside of its body is white while the creature's top is dark gray. This coloration acts as camouflage, allowing the akula to sneak up on its prey. It has a three-part jaw. The three jaws open in a triangular pattern like a blooming flower. Nalutsa= a six-gilled behemoth that lives in the coastal regions of the Pandoran ocean, and can be seen leaping out of the near-shore waters. The nalutsa is the tamer and less elusive cousin of the akula. Unlike Earth's blue whales, the nalutsa is able to leap out high and target flying animals, most notably within shallow waters. It inhabits shallow and coastal waters, and possess neither baleen nor specialized teeth for filter feeding, and instead catch large flying creatures above the water. chandelier: a gelatinous sea cresture, larger thsn a fish. Transparent with tiny yellow dots, orange head Flider fin fish: A tiny shallow-water fish usually found in schools of several hundred, the glider fin is what is known as a forage fish: a common and numerous prey fish that supports much of the food chain above it. Many larger fish, Pandoran marine birds, ilu, and other ocean fauna rely heavily on the glider fin as a primary food source, making it a keystone species of the reef ecosystem. Its natural lifespan is about a year, although many are eaten as prey before completing their life cycle. It is mostly found on shallow waters but also travels through open ocean to find food. They are gray and purple and have teo fins and a single tail fin. Hammerbrow fish: a small, colorful fish that schools in small groups of up to a dozen. One of its distinct physical features is a pair of large, rectangular extensions of the top of its head. These are believed to help the fish detect subtle disturbances in the surrounding water, allowing it to evade would-be predators. They are yellow and lok like shirt eels Pincer fish: small, predatory fish that is harmless to Na'vi but can be quite dangerous to fish smaller than itself. It sports two large, borny tusks that are not only used to herd smaller prey toward its mouth, but are also perfect for jousting matches with other pincers to settle territorial disputes. it is grey with orange flaps Feathertail fish: A fish that is more tail than body, the feathertail derives its name from the signature long, rounded tail fin. It is an important prey animal within the reef ecosystem, providing food for many other reef denizens. It is never eaten by the Metkaying, however: to them, its flesh tastes horribly bitter. It id grey with a red stipe on its fins. Flat skate fish: a vibrantly colorful fish that is considered a delicacy by the Metkayina when cooked. It is a very fast swimmer, however, making it difficult to catch except by the most experienced fishers. It is grey and purple squid: only a few centimeters long. It has two eyes protruding from the front of its head. Twelve tentacles allow the squid to move elegantly through the water. In the dark, its body emits a bright bioluminescent glow in yellow and orange colors. Squids may occurs in large schools of hundreds. Starbeak fish: Yellow with black and white stripes covered in stripy spines that run along its back. Its fins are composed of thin spines covered in thin blue webbing Syringil fish: blue with black stripes. It has a long, whip-like tail that is about as long as its body. A flat fin protrudes out of each side of its head spade wing: a light blue animal with two large, light-colored fins protruding from the front of its body, and a thin, tapered tail. It has faint blue horizontal stripes decorating most of its skin. Otter: an aquatic cresture looking like a terran otter but with a set of back flippers to help them propel themselves underwater. PANDORAN FLORA Reef underwater flora (Anemomes amd coral) daisy anemone: a cyan fish-eating anemone that captures unsuspecting prey with its strong tentacles. It relies on electrolocation to sense the bioelectric fields discharged by certain types of large predator fish. The anemone can also lure prey by mimicking the signals that fish species use to attract a mate. Once the fish swims within reach, the daisy anemone quickly extends its column and wraps its tentacles around the prey, injecting paralyzing venom before moving it into its mouth and breaking down its body with digestive enzymes. While dangerous to large predator fish, smaller fish often find protection and safe haven alongside it. It coils on resting position and its column extends, its venomous tentscles shaping a crown. Fantail coral: a purple sea fan coral. Its base anchors to rocks and on its center stinging yellow tentacles for catching zooplankton. Nom's delight coral: disk-shaped free-living coral with coral polyps Starey doughnut coral: cyan with uellow accenrs. Large polyp stony coral land flora Beanstalk: mossy, bridge-like structures connecting the Hallelujah Mountains. The Na'vi use the beanstalks to traverse the Hallelujah Mountains. Bladder Polyp (Rawp in na'vi) small rounded plants that grow in clusters on the forest floor, resembling blue-tinged stones. Delta tree: (Apxangrr in na'vi, meaning large root). It has thick bramches with sparse toxic leaves to protect from herbivores Fiddlehead: a brown-orange plant. Its coiled leaf unrolls into a large primitive single-leaved plant. helicoradian (loreyu in na'vi, meaning beautiful spiral) an orange plant possessing a single leaf that responds to touch by coiling up and retracting to the ground. Hometree (kelutral in na'vi) massive trees that can be found throughout Pandora. many na'vi clans have made these enormous plants their ancestral home for thousands of years Panopyra: (Tawtsngal in na'vi, meaning sky cup) a giant purple jellyfish-like plant, growing downards from high tree. Puffball tree (Runut in na'vi, meaning ball tree) the tree is tall with orange globular structures supported by the branches. They are filled with hydrogen gas and sodium hydroxide, which can cause them to explode if provoked. Red-Tipped Grass: a type of frass with small red color on its tips. Warrbonnet fern: (Eyaye in na-vi) a large herbaceous fern-like plant with colorful iridescent blue leaves. It is widely found on Pandora. The most striking feature of the warbonnet fern is the iridescent blue of the leaves. Woodsprite (Atokirina' in na'vi) Seeds of the sacred tree. Very pure spirits. a seed of the Tree of Souls that lives on Pandora. They are similar in appearance to small deep-sea jellyfish, but they float on the wind like dandelion seeds. TIMELINE Jake and his family relocate themselves from the Omatikaya to Pandora's eastern sea, inhabited by the Metkayina clan. There, the family assimilates with the Metkayina: Kiri develops a spiritual bond with the sea, Jake and Neytiri assist Chief Tonowari and his wife Ronal, while Lo'ak befriends Tsireya, their daughter. Following an altercation between Lo'ak and Tonowari's son Aonung after the latter mocked Kiri, Lo'ak apologizes at Jake's insistence due to initiating the fight. Aonung and his friends entice Lo'ak to a hunting trip, stranding him in a sea predator's territory. Lo'ak is saved from the predator by Payakan, a Tulkun—an intelligent and pacifist whale-like species whom the Metkayina consider their spiritual brethren—and befriends Payakan. Upon his return, Lo'ak wins Aonung's friendship by accepting blame for the trip but is told that Payakan is an outcast. Later, Kiri links to the Metkayina's underwater Spirit Tree and meets Grace in a vision, but suffers a seizure during the link-induced trance and nearly drowns. Jake summons his friends Norm Spellman and Max Patel for help, who diagnose Kiri with epilepsy and warn that she cannot connect to the Spirit Tree again. Quaritch tracks Norm and Max's aircraft to the Metkayina's archipelago. Bringing Spider with him, Quaritch joins forces with the RDA's marine operations and commandeers a whaling vessel hunting Tulkuns. Quaritch's squad begins raiding the archipelago but fails to find Jake after interrogating various tribes. Quaritch decides to massacre villages and kill Tulkuns in order to draw Jake out. Lo'ak mentally links with Payakan and learns he was cast out because he attacked human whalers who killed his mother, which magnified the bloodshed. When the Metkayina learns of the Tulkun killings, Lo'ak goes to warn Payakan, followed by his siblings and friends. Finding Payakan being hunted, Lo'ak, Tsireya, and Tuk are captured by Quaritch. Jake, Neytiri, and the Metkayina confront the humans and rescue the kids. Quaritch forces Jake to surrender, but Payakan attacks the vessel, initiating a battle between the Metkayina and the humans. Spider cripples the vessel, while Neteyam rescues Lo'ak, Tsireya, and Spider, but is fatally shot by one of Quaritch's men. Traumatized by Neteyam's death, Jake and Neytiri resolve to save their daughters, who were recaptured. Jake faces Quaritch, who holds Kiri hostage, but desists when Neytiri does the same with Spider. Jake, Quaritch, Neytiri, and Tuk get trapped inside the sinking vessel. After a tense skirmish, Jake strangles Quaritch unconscious and is rescued by Lo'ak and Payakan, while Kiri recovers Neytiri and Tuk. Spider saves Quaritch from drowning, but rejects him and rejoins Jake's family. After Neteyam's funeral, Jake informs Tonowari of his decision to leave the Metkayina. However, Tonowari identifies Jake's family as being part of the clan out of reverence and welcomes them to stay. Jake's family accept their new lives at sea but vow to continue their struggle against the RDA. ENGLISH - NA'VI DICTIONARY (Na'vi people use their own language called na'vi language.
