Tsukasa is someone Rui is immensely grateful towards, as he was one of the first people to put complete trust into Rui's directions, which Rui expresses gratitude for. In An Unmissable Spirited Affair, Rui expresses his thanks to Tsukasa for giving him the chance to change, as Rui once thought that he'd never be able to properly connect or understand anybody around him without relying on shows, but as he started to do shows with Tsukasa and everyone else at the Wonder Stage, his feelings began to gradually change. It's been mentioned by a multitude of characters that Tsukasa has been a good influence on Rui in one way or another, such as Mizuki saying that Rui's been able to "let himself cut loose" since meeting Tsukasa, and they also mention that Rui's changed for the better before proceeding to ask if that's because of Tsukasa too. In the first side story of KAITO's Secret Guidance card, he mentions that it seems like Tsukasa's been a positive influence on Rui, and again in An Unmissable Spirited Affair, one of Rui's classmates says that Rui's been smiling a lot more since meeting Tsukasa, and in the same event, Rui himself states that Tsukasa knows how to bring endless smiles to his face. Otori Emu: Fellow troupe member and friend. The two officially met in the Main Story after Rui got recruited to be Wonderlands x Showtime's stage director, and they immediately hit it off well due to the fact Rui's able to understand Emu's use of onomatopoeia, whereas both Tsukasa and Nene struggle to understand what she's saying. Rui is shown to be concerned by the fact Emu will hide her negative feelings for the sake of not making anybody sad, which is seen in Smile of a Dreamer, where she does just that after learning that some rides in Phoenix Wonderland are going to be torn down in order to make room for newer rides that'll attract younger audiences. In the 3rd episode of that event, when Rui, Tsukasa and Nene stumble across Emu and her older brothers arguing, he's passive at first and doesn't want to say too much, but he soon loses his composure when they continue to belittle Emu and her dreams, and he shuts them down quickly. In the first side story of his The Fire Within card, he seeks out the mascot, who he also presumes is also Emu's bodyguard, and asks him if he knows why Emu and her brothers were having such an intense argument, and what she's hiding from them and why she won't tell her troupemates anything. Upon being met with silence, Rui proceeds to say that he's extremely thankful for Emu, because her determination to save the Wonder Stage is what allowed Wonderlands x Showtime to be formed. He also says that they all want to keep performing shows together that'll make people smile, and if anything that will rob them of that opportunity were to arise, then he simply refuses to let it happen. Later in the Smile of a Dreamer event when Tsukasa invites Emu, Rui and Nene to the Ferris wheel before proceeding to earnestly ask Emu to tell them what took her smile away, Rui chimes in, agreeing and saying that she's already given them so much, so for once, they should return the favor. After learning about their plan to partner with another park to attract more visitors, in Wonder Magical Showtime!, Rui plans a show that includes all of the other members from the other stages at Phoenix Wonderland, and also all of the staff. His idea is successful, and by using the entire park as a stage, by the end of the event, he's able to get Emu's brothers to reconsider their idea. In the first side story of Rui's Rainbow☆Cast card, he states that, Emu's at her best whenever she's one with her emotions, and at times, she'll show hints of absolute brilliancy in terms of actively trying to make someone smile or laugh, and his opinion, he believes that it's one of her best qualities. In the Our Happy Ending event, after they all contemplate becoming freelancers and leaving Phoenix Wonderland, Rui goes and consults Emu's older brothers, asking them if she can come with the rest of them, because she's "a very dear friend". Kusanagi Nene: Fellow troupe member and childhood friend. The two met when Rui was in the second grade and Nene's family moved in next door, but they didn't hit it off immediately due to how shy Nene is. Though, once their moms took them both to see a My Little Mermaid show, they both became increasingly fond of theater, and eventually warmed up to each other. They used to act out shows that Rui thought of, they'd test out Rui's inventions, and Rui also used to search for fossils and gems at rivers and then show his finds to Nene. Though, in junior high, they began to drift apart due to Rui's apparent self-isolation and him thinking that being by himself is "for the best". Seeing as Nene struggled immensely to talk to people, Rui created Robo-Nene to serve as an avatar that Nene could talk through, which helped to an extent. In the Main Story, after Tsukasa had invited Rui to join the troupe, he joined under the condition that he let Nene join as well, since he knew about her talent and hobby for singing. After their first show fails due to an oversight Nene makes, Rui defends her after Tsukasa yells at her. Afterwards, Rui apologizes to her and says he won't force her to perform again. Later, after Tsukasa and Nene make up and she's once again granted the opportunity to do theater, Rui's glad to hear that she decided to not give up. In On This Holy Night, I Sing, he becomes increasingly concerned about Nene after she becomes self-conscious about her singing, and he looks for a solution that could help her. Something similar happens in The Song of a Canary in Crisis, when Nene works hard to improve her singing after becoming nervous that it'll ruin the show, Rui, alongside the rest of Wonderlands x Showtime and the VIRTUAL SINGERs, record a video for her, encouraging her and wishing her luck. Azusawa Kohane: Rui knows little about Kohane, courtesy of Emu, but due to how Kohane frequently attends Wonderlands x Showtime's shows and shows support for them, Rui has dubbed her as one of their greatest fans, saying that "It's a joy to have a fan like her". For Kohane's birthday in 2022, Wonderlands x Showtime throw a surprise show for her, and once again for her birthday in 2023, they promise to perform "A Pianist Named Thorpe" at the Wonder Stage, specifically because Kohane was upset that she couldn't see the original performance. Shiraishi An: Underclassmen and friend. They appear to first interact in the second side story of An's Charismatic Singer card, when she's on hall monitor duty and approaches Rui about a bag he's carrying, asking to know what's inside of it. He responds by saying that it's just some tools that he needs to maintain Robo-Nene, and after asking Nene for confirmation, An lets him off the hook. Tsukasa internally says that An's "going places" due to getting Rui to listen to her so easily, and he also internally says that she has some guts to even approach him in the first place. They once again interact in the An Ode for the Pure of Heart event where she coincidentally comes across the wedding venue, and she ends up becoming a replacement after another dance got hurt. Rui thanks her, and he also says that because she's a hall monitor, he'd appreciate it if she overlooked his indiscretions for the time being. During the The Climax! Kamiyama Cheer Squad! event, both An and Mizuki approach Rui, asking if he'll give the blue team a hand. Since his class already chose their cheer squad members, Rui is reluctant to agree until An then confirms that outside help has precedence and has been greenlit. He's still hesitant even after that, but he then comes to observe the blue teams meeting, and he later accepts An and Mizuki's invitation. In the Let's study hard! event, alongside Toya, Rui and Mizuki end up getting recruited to help Tsukasa, An and Akito study, and later after Rui and An end up losing a game of rock, paper, scissors and have to buy food and drinks for everyone, Rui notes that Mizuki appears to be enjoying themselves, and he also says that them having a friend like An must have helped them out immensely. An brushes it off by saying that she hasn't done much, but Rui looks happy nonetheless. For Rui's birthday in 2023, An, Akito and Toya get dragged to the rooftop by Mizuki, and they all wish him a happy birthday. After Akito asks what Rui's doing on the rooftop anyways, he responds by saying that it's a beautiful day, so he's just soaking up the sunshine. Despite their differences, Rui and Akito share a common interest of wanting to create successful shows. The two first met during the An Ode for the Pure of Heart event. Akito isn't too fond of Rui's ways using reverse psychology, but understands that Rui wants to create a successful show no matter what. Although Akito tends to avoid him, he also has manners and doesn't run away when he happens to make eye contact with Rui. The two interact again in the event At This Festival Bathed in Twilight, when Rui gets injured. Akito reluctantly helps Rui to the medical tent and gets him treatment. Rui is extremely grateful for this, thanking Akito repeatedly until they part ways. Rui seems to be glad that Akito cares about his health, and appreciates Akito's hard work and effort when Vivid BAD SQUAD does their performance at the Shibuya Festival. Aoyagi Toya: Underclassmen and friend. The two first met during the An Ode for the Pure of Heart event. Although Toya had heard of Rui due to previous rumors, he grew to respect Rui as they worked together on the wedding show. In the Never Give Up Cooking! event, Toya enlists Rui's help for making cupcakes. After tasting them, Rui didn't want to say that Toya's cupcakes looked and tasted bad because he didn't want Toya to feel like giving up. He then encouraged Toya to keep trying. Asahina Mafuyu: Rui seems to know Mafuyu through Mizuki, despite them meeting for the first time during the At This Festival Bathed in Twilight event. He was able to deduce Mafuyu's true personality thanks to information from Mizuki. When Mafuyu expresses she doesn’t have anything she wants to do, he gives her advice. He says that Mafuyu does, but realizing it is more difficult than it seems, and he didn't know what he wanted to do in the past either. During the event's after live, Rui mentions how their troupe's song during Shibuya Festival managed to "touch a troubled soul" and expresses his hope for her "path to become clear" in the future, without directly mentioning that the person in question is Mafuyu. Akiyama Mizuki: Friends who met while in junior high. They were both notorious outcasts of their middle school, and although Mizuki was initially indifferent about him, once they realized that they're both in the same boat, Mizuki says that they're "kinda like two peas in a pod" and Rui refers to the two of them as "kindred spirits". They used to spend time on the rooftop, skipping class together. In the KAMIYAMA HIGH FESTIVAL! event, Rui appears to be happy by the fact that Mizuki has found friends. In the The Climax! Kamiyama Cheer Squad! event, upon deducing that Rui's afraid of telling the cheer squad the idea he has, Mizuki ends up reassuring him that he'll be fine because "he's not stuck on the rooftop anymore" and "can go to the other side", and they then say that they're looking forward to hearing his idea. Later in the event after Rui and Mizuki's team wins the cheering competition, Mizuki tells Rui to shut up and take credit for it after hearing him respond so humbly to praise. Once the team captain proposes the idea of an after-party to celebrate their victory, Mizuki's hesitant to join and ends up initially declining the invitation, but Rui ends up convincing them to tag along by saying that he'd also like them to be there.
