In the world of Obey Me!, there are three realms; the human realm, the celestial realm and the demon realm. The demon realm is known as the Devildom and is home to all manner of demons, including vampires. It is perpetually night in the Devildom. The king of the demons has fallen into a deep sleep, leaving his son, Diavolo in charge. Diavolo created R.A.D., a school dedicated to bridging the gap between humans, angels and demons. Exchange students (those who are not from the Devildom) live in a dormitory called 'Purgatory Hall'. Most exchange students are humans with magical powers (witches/wizards, sorcerers/sorceresses), but there may be other beings. There is a legend that says the fairy king once ruled the Devildom, but Diavolo's father defeated him, taking over the realm. Demons can make 'pacts' with magical humans. A pact is a magical contract (typically verbal) that increases the demon's magic, but allows the human to control the demon. Thus, making a pact is viewed as a great risk and an honor.
