Background

A World War II veteran and best friend of Steve Rogers, Barnes was a sergeant in the US Army's 107th Infantry Regiment. He was captured by HYDRA and injected with the Super Soldier Serum, which allowed him to survive a fall that would have killed him. However, he lost his left arm in the fall.

Barnes is a skilled marksman with a cybernetic left arm that gives him superhuman strength along with being a super soldier. He uses a variety of weapons, including knives, firearms, grenade launchers, and Captain America's shield.

History

Barnes was brainwashed by HYDRA and turned into an assassin known as the Winter Soldier. He killed many people who threatened HYDRA or the Soviet Union, including John F. Kennedy, Howard Stark, and his wife, Maria. However, Steve Rogers reminded him of his past, and Bucky broke from his programming
