During the Blacksmiths' Village Arc , he is seen more muscular compared to his initial appearance. Unmasked, Hotaru is revealed to have long black hair coupled with sharp eyes and distinctly shaped thick eyebrows. However, after being attacked by Top Rank 5, Gyokko , Hotaru now possesses several deep scars and cuts from the demon all over her body, including an X-shaped one on her face, and has now lost the use of her eye. right. Personality : he is tickled and despite his angry appearance he is worried. Hotaru is a hot-blooded individual. He seems to pay very little attention, if any, to anything other than the swords he creates. His passion for swords is so strong that he could talk about them for long periods of time, a trait unique even among the people of Blacksmith Village . Synopsis: Final Selection Arc : Hotaru first appears at Sakonji's house to deliver Tanjiro's Sun Sword after the latter passes the Final Selection . Despite Tanjiro's frequent requests for him to enter the house, Hotaru ignores him and sits in front of the door, describing the blade he forged. After suddenly looking up at Tanjiro, he commented on his red hair and eyes, stating that it was good fortune. Excited, Hotaru enters the house while noticing how Nichirin swords would change color and that his sword could turn bright red, however, after seeing the blade turn black, Hotaru shows obvious disappointment and becomes angry at Tanjiro. Mount Natagumo Arch : During his fight against Lower Rank 5, Rui , Tanjiro breaks his blade, an enraged Hotaru is briefly seen in Tanjiro's thoughts as he inwardly apologizes to him and to Sakonji. Arc Recovery Training : After Tanjiro heals at the Butterfly Domain , he and Inosuke Hashibira greet their blacksmiths but encounter an angry Hotaru attacking Akirs Tanjiro with a knife, furious that he broke his broken blade. After chasing him off and calming him down, Hotaru and Kozo Kanamori give their blades back to the two demon slayers . Infinity Train Arc : Hotaru appears when Tanjiro returns from the Rengoku household, enraged at the loss of another sword and pursues Tanjiro again. Abilities & Competencies : As a blacksmith, Hotaru has not shown any special abilities similar to members of the Demon Slayer Army . Although after Tanjiro broke his Sun Sword multiple times against demons, he underwent special training so that he could forge a stronger blade for himself. Natural abilities : Enhanced Strength: After training in the mountains, his increased strength seemingly surpassed that of even Tanjiro. Master Blacksmith: Hotaru is a skilled blacksmith, capable of forging a Sun Sword and repairing it multiple times each time it broke against a Demon Moon. After Tanjiro lost another sword after impaling Akaza , Hotaru trained more to make a stronger sword. Hotaru demonstrated his professionalism and expertise when he polished and sharpened the 300-year-old blade left in Yoriichi Reishiki while completely ignoring the injuries he received from Gyokko. Tantôjutsu Expert: Hotaru is an expert in the use of a Tantô, in the form of a clover. He usually shows his skills by attacking Tanjiro after damaging his swords. Anecdotes : Hotaru's last name contains the kanji for "steel" (鋼hagane ), a reference to her profession, and her first name means "firefly" (蛍 hotaru ). He hates his name because of how "cute" it is. Hotaru's favorite food is mitarashi dango, and he goes to buy it whenever he gets angry. Hotaru has wind chimes attached to his hat because he has loved them since he was a child. Every time he threw a tantrum, the adults used the chimes to calm him down. As a child, Hotaru was so horrible to deal with that her parents had a mental breakdown and Tecchin Tecchikawahara had to raise her. History Origin The first demon believed to have existed was Muzan Kibutsuji . The one who turned him into a demon was a generous doctor from the Heian period, who wanted to save Muzan from death because, at the time, he had been diagnosed with an illness that would kill him before he was twenty years old.
