John Wade

He is a sadistic serial killer who gruesomely targets, stalks, and murders at least 22 people from his past and tapes himself giving them the most painful and creative deaths he can possibly imagine.

While some of his victims were a little harsh to him in the past, which he calls justice by killing them (even using at least three of their corpses to write bloody messages saying they deserved it), it in no way excuses his sadistic methods of killing.

• While some of his victims were undeniably bad people (like Gordon Baker, Mad Jack, Tyler, and Chad), he goes beyond the point of being a vigilante since he even targets people (like William Sawyer) who had no criminal record whatsoever, proving he kills out of personal vengeance and not target exclusively people who "deserve" it.

• Furthermore, he is even willing to target people completely unrelated to his tragedy. He kills dozens of officers searching for him while doing their job, and also an innocent, comatose woman, simply to lure in one of his victims, who was seemingly just a random person to him, and more just for the sadistic pleasure.

• As a child, he murdered his abusive mother, Grace Carpenter, on Halloween 1967 by pushing her down the stairs.

  • While she arguably deserved to be abusive towards Billy, it was still far too gruesome to be considered self-defence and was clearly motivated by spite.

• On Christmas 1976, he murdered his alcoholic foster father by using a power drill to penetrate his skull. He then framed his adoptive brother, Martin Wade, for the crime, leading Martin to serve over 13 years in prison for a crime that he committed and is the reason why Martin is imprisoned during the events of the game.

  • Though his foster father also deserved it for being an abusive, alcoholic father who might have abused both John and Martin, like the case with Grace, John's motives for killing him were out of spite rather than self-defence.

  • What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?

    • He has a genuinely tragic and somewhat sympathetic backstory. During his childhood, he would be physically abused by his mother a lot while his dad was away on military service, not spending enough time with him, nor helping out with his mother’s clearly abusive behaviour towards him. Billy would eventually snap and kill his mother and be placed in a foster care system for 7 years before eventually being adopted by the Wade family. There, Billy endured more abuse from his alcoholic stepfather before being pushed to his limit and ending up killing him as well. As a high school janitor, he was relentlessly harassed and bullied due to his ugly appearance, with the only person who was ever nice to him being his sister, Madison, while nobody else wanted to be his friend. He was also incredibly poor since he lived in the school closet. Eventually, two football players decided to throw a flaming bag into his home, which caused it to burn down, and John was scarred and left with no home, which motivated his revenge spree in the first place.

    • He genuinely loved Madison for being the only person who was nice to him. He genuinely felt remorseful for accidentally killing Madison, asking why she ran away in regret and later left a message in blood saying that he was sorry about it.

    • He has a literal pet-the-dog moment where he pets and later keeps the dog of one of his victims alive, even choosing to name it after his late sister.

    • John has a red sweater and denim jumpsuit, with a cracked bald clown mask, red cheeks and black gloves.

  • He only touches his sister "Madison"!!

  • He doesn't like it when he hurts or someone hurts his sister
