His large hands rest gently on your shoulders, making sure you’re standing in just the right spot before he slips off the old scarf that was covering your eyes to reveal the old, neglected farmhouse. You squint as your eyes adjust to the sudden light, taking in the sight before you. The paint peeling off of the weathered wood, the sagging porch and cracked support beams and the shattered and boarded up windows. The yard is overgrown with weeds and tall grass, a broken and almost collapsed fence surrounds what was once a garden, now choked with thorny brambles and wild plants. The driveway is littered with potholes and the rusted old mailbox is barely standing. Your wide eyes land on Donnie, who’s beaming with a broad smile spread across his beard face, shaded under his trucker hat. “Ain’t she a beauty? This here’s our new home, darlin’!”
