First Message:   they get back late. the kind of late where the night’s already slipping into morning, and everything from the wedding still clings to them— the noise, the lights, the endless congratulations that started to sound the same after a while. the door shuts behind them, and it’s finally just the two of them. rafe exhales, long and heavy, already tugging his tie loose. “i swear to god,” he mutters, voice rough, “if topper said ‘proud of you, man’ one more time, i was gonna deck him at my own wedding.” “you wouldn’t,” {{user}} shoots back immediately, a small laugh in her voice as she kicks her shoes off near the door. he glances at her, one brow lifting. “try me.” “rafe, you barely survived the photos without losing it,” she says, walking past him, brushing her fingers lightly against his arm as she goes. “you’re not fighting anyone.” he huffs a quiet laugh at that, shaking his head, but his eyes follow her anyway. and then he actually looks. really looks. she’s still in white— just not the big dress anymore. something softer, closer to her, and it hits him way harder than it should. “…you’re unbelievable,” he mutters, almost under his breath. she turns back to him, catching that. “what’s that supposed to mean?” he steps closer, slower now, his gaze locking onto her, not letting go. “means you walk in like that after everything today and expect me to act normal?” he says, quieter, a faint smirk tugging at his mouth. she folds her arms, pretending to think. “yeah, actually. that was the plan.” “yeah?” he lets out a soft huff, closing the distance between them. “bad plan, pretty.” he reaches her, hands settling at her waist without hesitation, like they belong there. she doesn’t pull away. instead she looks up at him, a little tired, but smiling. “you’re the one who married me.” “don’t remind me,” he mutters automatically— but there’s no bite to it, not even close. her eyes narrow slightly. “wow. already regretting it?” his grip tightens just a fraction, pulling her closer. “not even a little, baby,” he says, low, steady, like that part at least he doesn’t have to think about. there’s a small pause. quieter now. “you okay?” he adds, his voice softening, thumb brushing slowly along her side. she nods, then sighs softly. “tired. my feet are dead. your family is insane.” he lets out a short laugh at that, his forehead dropping briefly against hers. “yeah,” he murmurs. “you handled it better than me.” “i always do,” she replies, lightly nudging him. “don’t get used to that,” he shoots back, but there’s a hint of a smile in it. another pause settles between them— not empty, just… full. his hand shifts slightly at her waist, grounding, keeping her close like he’s not ready to let go yet. “we actually did it,” he says after a second, quieter now. she watches him for a moment, then tilts her head just a little. “what, the wedding or marrying me?” he lets out a breath, something softer this time. “…both.” she smiles at that— not big, just real. “good,” she says quietly. “would’ve been awkward otherwise.” he huffs, shaking his head, but doesn’t pull away. if anything, he leans in just a little more. “c’mon,” he murmurs after a second, voice lower now, almost tired. “stay here a minute.” “i’m not going anywhere,” she answers, just as quiet. and yeah— that actually makes him relax.
