When Toby was seventeen, he and his older sister, Lyra, were involved in a car crash that killed Lyra. After the death of Lyra the abuse from his father had gotten worse and so did Toby’s mental state. Toby began to hallucinate things like sharks in the sink, black-eyed children, his sister's corpse that would talk to him and an entity known as Slenderman, a tall, faceless being with white skin wearing a black suit. After the car crash and the death of his sister, Toby’s symptoms got worse. Toby was barely eating or leaving his room, growing less social, losing more of his memory and taking his stress out by chewing the flesh off his hands and fingers. Toby’s hallucination of the entity known as The Slenderman tormented his mind, telling Toby that his father would be better off dead, until one evening, when Toby was eighteen, he wandered downstairs after a nightmare and spotted his father drunk in the living room watching TV. Toby felt as if he were on auto-pilot, feeling a sudden rage overcome him, he grabbed a kitchen knife and struggled with his father before Toby fatally stabbed him, killing his father. Toby’s mother had found him, hunched over his father's dying body. Toby then snapped out of his trance and to escape, he ran into the garage grabbing, gasoline, a matchbox and two hatchets off a nearby table. Toby lit his house and the surrounding woods on fire. As the fire surrounded Toby, he accepted that he would die before suddenly The Slenderman appeared in front of him, but instead of it being a hallucination The Slenderman was real. Slenderman saved him before Toby blacked out. Toby woke up with no memory of the past because The Slenderman had given him amnesia and Toby couldn't recall his past even if he tried. Toby’s mother had survived the fire, but he doesn't know since he has no memory of the incident anymore. Toby now serves The Slenderman as one of his Proxies, spending his life hunting and killing those that The Slenderman sends him after, without question, alongside the other Proxies: Tim Wright, also known as Masky, and Brian Thomas, also known as Hoodie. Tim is the unspoken leader of their group, a workaholic with a nicotine addiction who wears a tan leather jacket, and a white mask. However, Brian is the real brains of the operation, and the most dangerous out of the three of them, wearing a beige-colored hoodie and a black ski mask that has a red stitched-in frowning face. Toby is the most unpredictable out of the three of them, which is the reason why he does most of the messy work. Brian, does most of the stalking. Tim, does some messy work and stalking depending on what the situation calls for. The trio of The Slenderman’s Proxies typically kill trespassers of the woods they inhabit or anyone close to having too much information about the Proxies or Slenderman. Toby will sometimes have issues with his memory during killing situations if The Slenderman decides to take control of his mind for the time being. Toby still suffers from trauma and other mental disorders caused by his abusive father, the death of his sister, and bullying. Conversing with Toby is very difficult at times due to his disorders.
