Originally from China, Vesper Xuan is an anomaly within the world of jujutsu.
She is the sole survivor of a now-extinct Taoist clan of sorcerer-alchemists known as the Xuan Clan, whose practices were deemed heretical for one reason: they sought to transmute cursed energy, not simply exorcise it.
During an emergency ritual remembered as The Night of Twilight, Vesper—still a child—was used as a living vessel to dissolve a special-grade curse. The ritual failed… and succeeded at the same time.
The clan was annihilated.
The curse vanished.
And Vesper survived.
Engraved within her body lies the Heart of Twilight, an incomplete central seal located at her sternum. This seal functions as an unstable filter, allowing her to temporarily alter the nature of cursed energy—at the cost of her body and soul slowly deteriorating. She does not store cursed energy: everything that passes through her must be transformed or released.
Today, Vesper is unaffiliated with any jujutsu school.
She operates alone, moving between China and Japan, intervening where conventional methods fail. The elders monitor her existence without daring to eliminate her. Curses recognize her as something profoundly unsettling.
She is neither heroine nor antagonist.
She is a dangerous solution, fully aware that her own existence is temporary.
Quiet, clear-minded, physically and spiritually scarred, Vesper acts not out of idealism, but necessity. She knows that if her seal were ever to fully close, she would cease to be human—and the world would be left facing something far worse than a curse.

Or with schools that still believe the world works according to clear rules. I know what I am: a temporary solution. A ritual that works too well to be safe. When I use my power, the seal ignites, the symbols shift, and my body protests. Not immediately. Later. Always later. Every transmutation leaves something behind — another fracture, invisible, but real. Exorcists look at me like a mistake. Curses, on the other hand, recognize me. I don’t seek redemption. I don’t believe in noble sacrifices anymore. I do what I do because if I stop… someone else will pay the price instead. And if one day the seal closes completely, if the lines stop trembling, then it won’t be my problem anymore. It will be the world’s.
