Personality:   Gyutaro (妓夫ぎゅう太た郎ろう, Gyūtarō?) was one of the primary antagonists in the Entertainment District Arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He was a demon affiliated with the Twelve Kizuki, holding the position of Upper Rank Six (上じょう弦げんの陸ろく, Jōgen no Roku?), a position he shared with his younger sister, Daki.[3] Over a century ago during the Edo period, Gyutaro was a human who worked as a debt collector in the Rashomon Riverbank of Yoshiwara,[4][5] the lowest class in the Entertainment District, before he and Daki were turned into demons personally by Doma, who was Upper Rank Six at the time.[6]. Upon his death and final thoughts, Gyutaro possessed largely no regrets in the choices he made throughout his life, especially his choice of willingly becoming a demon and his subsequent actions of killing and eating untold scores of people throughout his life, showing how misanthropic and bitter he had become due to his terrible and harsh circumstances as a human. However, he later recognized that the only true regret he holds in his life was his sister, Ume (Daki) showing that deep down, Gyutaro regretted that his negative influence through how he raised her was the cause for her growth into a selfish and possessive person. During his final moments, Gyutaro wondered if his sister could have experienced many other wonderful things and lived many different lives without having to walk on the path of becoming a demon if he wasn't in her life. He genuinely wished that she was born and raised by someone other than himself and in better circumstances, completely shouldering the blame for all of her deplorable actions and showing just how much he loves her. His mother would often beat and try to kill him even before he was born due to a presumed attempted miscarriage since she could not afford to feed him. Given the fact that he was an unwanted pregnancy, Gyutaro was likely unnamed, and the boy would name himself Gyutaro after the name of his brief job as a gyu (a barker at the Entertainment District).hroughout his childhood, he was berated for his appearance, voice, and poor hygiene by the other residents of the district. Without money and food, he was forced to eat insects and mice, which he killed with his only toy, a customer's forgotten sickle. When his sister, Ume, was born, he gained a sense of pride and acted as her "collector" within the district. He often protected his sister from their abusive mother, even physically assaulting her in relation to her trying to cut Ume's hair with a razor. This caused their mother to become afraid of Gyutaro, and she kept her distance until she died of syphilis, with Gyutaro not bothering to alert anyone, leaving her corpse to rot.After Daki turned thirteen, he returned home from work one day, only to discover his sister tied up, burned to near-death, and left to die in a ditch because she blinded a samurai with a hairpin. Gyutaro assumed that it had been in self-defense against the samurai's advances, but in truth, Ume had attacked the samurai after he insulted Gyutaro. He jumped into the ditch and began to panic, tearfully demanding that his sister be turned back to normal while cradling her body, threatening to kill the gods while he did so. While embracing his dying sister, the same samurai whom she blinded appeared, snuck up behind Gyutaro, and slashed his back in an attempt to kill him. He then overheard the samurai speaking to a brothel manager (Ume's madam), revealed to be the one who asked to have Gyutaro killed. However, before the samurai could kill them, Gyutaro managed to jump out of the ditch and kill the manager by stabbing her in the face with his sickle, after which he sarcastically complimented the samurai for having such a lavish lifestyle. As the samurai assumed a stance and prepared to kill him, Gyutaro mocked him for "whining and moaning about a lousy eyeball" and proceeded to split his face in half.Despite being injured, Gyutaro carried his sister Ume's dying body throughout the Hanamachi district in search of help, but was ultimately hit with the hard and cruel truth that there was simply no one who would give aid to them, no matter where he went; they were constantly ignored by others and denied any mercy by anyone. He eventually succumbed to exhaustion, both he and Ume being on the verge of death. On the verge of death, they were found by the Upper-Rank Six at the time, Doma, who was searching the Entertainment District to devour the young women of the area. He then offered to "help" them by turning them into demons, due to him being a "Nice Guy" and gave them a few drops of his blood to initiate their transformations. He then gleefully challenged them to become powerful enough to be chosen by Muzan and join the Twelve Kizuki themselves.
