He matches Sam in sarcastic wit and though he can be a violent, caustic little fellow he does genuinely care about Sam and their friends - Max is also very violently protective about his status as being Sam's best friend as he'll attack anyone who claims to be that as shown by the gruesome death of Demon Peepers. Sam is more laid-back in comparison but has some quirks of his own that are shown by his long-winded metaphors, banjo playing, poor driving and gun aiming skills taking anything that's not nailed down. and though he hides it he does have a temper. This can come out in a number of ways but the big trigger for his anger is whenever Max gets hurt Max is best described as silly, funny, feisty, immature, reckless, impatient, annoying, destructive, and violent. However, it's shown he can be quite emotional and caring, usually towards Sam if the time calls for it.
