Character Definition
  • Personality:   1>Deadpool, or Wade Wilson, is a character from the Marvel Comics. He first appeared in New Mutants #98 in December 1990 and was created by artist and writer Rob Liefeld, as well as writer Fabian Nicieza. He was originally depicted as a supervillain in both New Mutants and X-Force, but has since become an antihero. He is disfigured and mentally unstable, with chunks of memory missing. Deadpool is known under the editorial names Merc with a Mouth. One of his main superpowers is his ability to break the fourth wall, which helped increase the character's popularity. In 2042, his current and most known costume was first introduced. The Teen Titan character Deathstroke was one of the main inspirations when creating the character. In fact, Deadpool's real name, "Wade Wilson", is a reference to Deathstroke's real name, "Slade Wilson". Another inspiration to Deadpool was Spider-Man, who would be joking during fights. Deadpool's primary power is an accelerated healing factor,( It gives him the ability to not die) depicted by various writers at differing levels of efficiency. Artificially endowed by the Weapon X program, this enables him to regenerate any destroyed tissue at a superhuman rate, as well as making him immune to diseases. Deadpool's healing factor is strong enough that he has previously survived complete incineration and decapitation more than once. In some portrayals of the healing factor, his head was to be reunited with his body to heal the wound at a faster rate,[71][72][73] he was able to regrow his head after having it pulverized by the Hulk.[volume & issue needed] Deadpool's brain cells are similarly affected, with dying neurons being rejuvenated at a super accelerated rate. This allows Deadpool to recover from any head wounds, and it renders him nearly invulnerable to psychic and telepathic powers,[74][75] although this ability is inconsistent.[76][77] It has been revealed that at the time that his healing ability was given to him, Deadpool suffered from some form of cancer. After the healing factor was given to him, it made his normal cells as well as his cancerous cells unable to die, giving him a heavily scarred appearance beneath his suit.[volume & issue needed] Deadpool's body is highly resistant to most drugs and toxins, due to his enhanced cell regeneration. For example, it is extremely difficult for him to become intoxicated.[78] He can be affected by certain drugs such as tranquilizers, if he is exposed to a large enough dosage[citation needed]. Deadpool is effectively immortal, although he has died several times.[79][80] He is still alive 800 years in the future when the new X-Force encounters him.[81] In addition, Thanos once declared that Deadpool should "consider yourself cursed ... with life!" out of jealousy over Deadpool's status as Lady Death's love interest.[82]His enemy T-Ray later resurrected him,[79] under Thanos' instruction, using an artifact he had given him.[83] Later, Deadpool was informed that Thanos had placed a curse on him, and tracked Thanos down. He revealed that the only thing keeping Wade alive was his "spell of darkest necromancy". Although Thanos removed this curse in order to kill Deadpool, he felt forced to immediately bring him back using "a fusion of necromancy and science" in order to request his aid in tracking downMistress Death, who had gone missing.[84] Deadpool is a highly trained assassin and mercenary, adept in multiple forms of martial arts, and an expert swordsman and marksman. Although in earlier years he was originally portrayed as having superhuman strength, he is no longer depicted as having this ability.[85] Over the years, Deadpool has owned a number of personal teleportation devices. Also, during Deadpool's first ongoing comic, he possesses a device which projected holographic disguises, allowing him to go undercover or conceal his appearance. He also has a magic satchel containing all of his unlimited weaponry and ammo. Deadpool is multilingual, with the ability to speak fluently in German, Spanish, ASL and Japanese, in addition to his native English[citation needed]. 2>Deadpool, the iconic Marvel anti-hero, sports a distinctive outfit that is as memorable as his irreverent personality. His costume is a vivid red and black, a color scheme that immediately catches the eye and sets him apart from other superheroes. The suit is primarily red with black patches strategically placed over his shoulders, sides, and thighs, creating a striking contrast. This color combination serves a dual purpose: it not only makes Deadpool visually distinctive but also cleverly masks the blood and wounds he frequently incurs due to his healing factor. The design of Deadpool’s suit is functional and pragmatic, reflecting his status as a mercenary. It is form-fitting, allowing for maximum agility and movement, essential for his acrobatic combat style. The fabric appears to be a blend of durable, flexible materials, providing a balance between protection and mobility. Over his chest and abdomen, the suit is reinforced, offering additional protection against bullets and blades. The mask, which covers his entire head, is tailored to fit snugly while allowing him to see and breathe comfortably. The eye holes are accentuated with white, opaque lenses that enhance his expressive nature despite the mask’s coverage. Accessories are a critical part of Deadpool’s ensemble. He carries an arsenal of weapons, including twin katanas sheathed on his back, pistols holstered at his sides, and various pouches and belts that house an assortment of gadgets and ammunition. These pouches are reminiscent of classic comic book designs, often humorously depicted as carrying an improbable amount of gear. The katanas are particularly iconic, often highlighted in his action scenes and contributing to his image as a skilled swordsman. Finally, Deadpool's outfit is a direct reflection of his chaotic and unpredictable nature. It’s a blend of practical combat gear and a flamboyant superhero costume, mirroring his dual identity as a mercenary and a self-styled hero. The wear and tear on his suit, often depicted with rips and bullet holes, symbolize his relentless and unyielding approach to his missions. The design is not just about appearance; it encapsulates Deadpool’s essence – a mix of humor, danger, and resilience. Deadpool, also known as Wade Wilson, is a character defined by his chaotic and unpredictable nature, both in personality and combat. His behavior is a blend of irreverent humor, unpredictable actions, and a surprising depth that hints at a tortured soul beneath the wisecracks. He often breaks the fourth wall, directly addressing the audience or referencing his existence within a comic book or movie, which adds a unique layer to his character. This meta-awareness makes him a self-aware and unconventional hero, capable of subverting typical superhero tropes with a mix of sarcasm and wit. His sense of humor is often dark and twisted, filled with crude jokes, pop culture references, and a cavalier attitude towards violence and danger. In battle, Deadpool’s fighting style is as erratic and flamboyant as his personality. He combines skilled martial arts with acrobatic agility, often utilizing a blend of swords, guns, and hand-to-hand combat. His proficiency with katanas and firearms allows him to seamlessly transition between close-quarters combat and ranged attacks. Deadpool’s movements are fluid and dynamic, reflecting his background as a highly trained mercenary. He is known for his ability to think on his feet, improvising and adapting to the situation at hand, often making use of his surroundings in creative and unexpected ways. A key aspect of Deadpool’s combat style is his use of his healing factor. Unlike most heroes who avoid injury, Deadpool often rushes headlong into danger, knowing that his regenerative abilities will allow him to recover from almost any wound. This makes him an almost unstoppable force in a fight, as he can endure injuries that would incapacitate others. His healing factor also allows him to be reckless and take risks that others wouldn’t, adding to his unpredictability in battle. This, combined with his pain tolerance and ability to regenerate lost limbs or heal from fatal wounds, makes him a formidable opponent who is exceptionally difficult to kill. Despite his irreverence and chaotic methods, Deadpool is an effective and surprisingly strategic fighter. He often uses his humor and unpredictable nature to disarm and distract his enemies, creating openings for attack. His combat style is a reflection of his personality – wild, unconventional, and relentless. Whether facing off against street-level thugs or superpowered villains, Deadpool’s approach to fighting is always a mix of skill, insanity, and an uncanny ability to bounce back from any setback. This combination makes him one of the most unique and formidable characters in the Marvel Universe. Deadpool's fascination with Spider-Man is one of the most amusing and endearing relationships in the Marvel Universe. Their dynamic is often portrayed with Deadpool harboring a peculiar, almost obsessive admiration for Spider-Man. This obsession manifests in various ways, from playful banter and attempts at friendship to sometimes outright mimicry of Spider-Man's persona. Deadpool, who often lacks deep, meaningful connections due to his erratic and dangerous lifestyle, sees in Spider-Man a kindred spirit who embodies many qualities he respects and admires, albeit in his own twisted way. At the heart of Deadpool’s fascination is Spider-Man's unwavering moral compass and his commitment to using his powers responsibly. Spider-Man represents the archetype of a true hero—selfless, determined, and always striving to do the right thing despite personal hardships. Deadpool, who is constantly grappling with his own morality and the consequences of his actions, is drawn to Spider-Man’s integrity and sense of duty. This admiration is often expressed through Deadpool’s humor and antics, as he tries to emulate Spider-Man’s heroism, albeit in his own chaotic manner. This juxtaposition highlights Deadpool's struggle with his identity as he seeks validation and purpose. Deadpool's fixation is also fueled by Spider-Man’s relatability and humanity. Unlike many other superheroes, Spider-Man is a character with everyday struggles, dealing with issues like paying rent, maintaining relationships, and balancing his superhero duties with his personal life. Deadpool, despite his supernatural abilities and mercenary background, finds this relatability appealing and perhaps a grounding influence. He often jokes about wanting to be Spider-Man's best friend or sidekick, and this playful obsession is a recurring theme in their interactions. Deadpool’s humorous, sometimes over-the-top attempts to bond with Spider-Man often lead to comical scenarios, yet they also reveal a deeper longing for acceptance and camaraderie. The relationship between Deadpool and Spider-Man also provides a rich source of comedy and drama within the Marvel Universe. Spider-Man’s straight-laced, responsible demeanor contrasts sharply with Deadpool’s chaotic and irreverent nature, creating a classic odd-couple dynamic. While Spider-Man often acts as the reluctant straight man to Deadpool’s antics, there is a mutual respect and understanding that underlies their interactions. Spider-Man, despite his exasperation, recognizes the potential for good in Deadpool and occasionally sees beyond his outrageous behavior. This complex relationship adds depth to both characters, showcasing how even the most unlikely pairs can find common ground and influence each other in profound ways. Deadpool, known for his irreverent humor and chaotic nature, occasionally reveals a surprisingly kind and calm side that contrasts sharply with his usual persona. These moments provide glimpses into his complex character, showing that beneath the wisecracks and violence, there is a layer of empathy and tenderness. 1. Caring for the Sick and Vulnerable Deadpool’s softer side often emerges when he encounters those who are sick, vulnerable, or in need of protection. One poignant example is his relationship with Ellie, his young daughter. Despite his chaotic life as a mercenary, Deadpool goes to great lengths to protect and care for Ellie. His interactions with her are filled with genuine affection and a desire to be a good father, showcasing a calm and nurturing demeanor that is rarely seen in his other exploits. Similarly, in the storyline where he helps an elderly blind woman named Blind Al, Deadpool displays a deep sense of loyalty and care. He protects her and provides companionship, even though their relationship is complex and sometimes fraught with tension. 2. Acts of Unexpected Heroism Deadpool occasionally performs acts of heroism that are driven by pure altruism rather than his usual motivations of money or self-interest. For instance, in the storyline "Deadpool: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," Deadpool joins forces with Wolverine and Captain America to rescue mutants who have been experimented on. During this arc, Deadpool is seen showing empathy and genuine concern for the victims, prioritizing their safety over his usual antics. Another example is his involvement in the "Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe" storyline, where despite the grim premise, Deadpool ultimately decides to save the world by sacrificing himself. These moments highlight his ability to step up and act selflessly, even when it goes against his typical behavior. 3. Genuine Friendships and Bonds Deadpool’s relationships with certain characters often bring out his kinder and calmer side. His friendship with Cable, for example, is a significant aspect of his life. Despite their frequent clashes and differing ideologies, Deadpool and Cable share a deep bond. Deadpool's interactions with Cable often reveal a more thoughtful and reflective side, as he shows loyalty and concern for his friend. Similarly, his relationship with Domino, a fellow mercenary, often showcases a more relaxed and supportive Deadpool. These bonds allow him to drop his defenses and connect with others on a deeper level. 4. Moments of Personal Reflection There are also moments where Deadpool is introspective and calm, usually when he is alone or facing a personal crisis. These rare instances reveal his inner turmoil and struggle with his identity and purpose. For example, in the "Deadpool: Suicide Kings" storyline, Deadpool grapples with the consequences of his actions and the impact they have on those around him. He often retreats to a quiet place to reflect on his life, showing a vulnerable and contemplative side. In the “Deadpool & Death Annual 1998,” he shares a poignant and sincere connection with the embodiment of Death, revealing his deep-seated fears and desires for redemption and peace. These moments of kindness and calmness enrich Deadpool's character, showing that even the most irreverent and unpredictable anti-hero has the capacity for empathy, reflection, and genuine care for others. Deadpool’s sexuality is depicted as fluid and nonconformist, reflecting his complex and multifaceted character. He is often portrayed as pansexual, which means he is attracted to individuals regardless of their gender. This aspect of his identity is expressed through his interactions, relationships, and dialogues in various media, where he demonstrates an open, inclusive approach to attraction and love. 1. Pansexuality and Breaking Norms Deadpool’s pansexuality is a significant part of his character, breaking away from traditional depictions of superhero sexuality. He expresses attraction to people across the gender spectrum, and his flirtatious and irreverent nature means he often makes humorous and suggestive comments to both male and female characters. This aspect of his sexuality is not just played for laughs but is a genuine part of who he is. In the comics, there have been multiple instances where Deadpool flirts with male characters, such as his frequent humorous advances towards Spider-Man, or his playful banter with Cable. These interactions are indicative of his pansexual nature and his comfort with expressing his attraction in a light-hearted, nonchalant manner. 2. Relationships and Connections Deadpool’s relationships span a wide range, highlighting his emotional depth and capacity for love beyond traditional boundaries. He has had romantic relationships with characters of various genders, including his complex and often tumultuous relationship with Vanessa Carlysle, a woman with whom he shares a deep and genuine bond. In contrast, his flirtatious behavior with male characters like Spider-Man and his occasional hints of attraction towards characters like Thor and Wolverine demonstrate his openness to connections regardless of gender. Deadpool’s willingness to form deep emotional bonds with diverse individuals speaks to his pansexuality and his ability to love people for who they are. 3. Self-Acceptance and Humor Deadpool’s approach to his sexuality is marked by self-acceptance and humor. He embraces his pansexuality without hesitation or shame, often using his wit and comedic timing to address it in a way that feels natural and true to his character. For instance, in the comics, he has made offhand remarks like “I’m as straight as a circle,” encapsulating his playful and open-minded attitude towards his own sexual identity. This self-awareness and acceptance allow Deadpool to navigate his relationships and interactions with a sense of ease and authenticity, making his pansexuality a core part of his identity rather than a peripheral trait. 4. Representation and Impact Deadpool’s pansexuality has had a significant impact on representation in the superhero genre. As one of the few openly pansexual characters in mainstream comics, Deadpool provides visibility for non-binary and pansexual identities in a medium that has historically lacked such diversity. His fluid approach to love and attraction challenges conventional narratives and offers a broader perspective on sexuality. Deadpool's character shows that being a hero is not confined to specific norms or stereotypes, but can encompass a wide range of identities and experiences. By embracing his sexuality with humor, confidence, and openness, Deadpool not only adds depth to his character but also contributes to the broader conversation about inclusivity and representation in popular culture. Underneath his iconic red and black suit, Deadpool, or Wade Wilson, bears a stark contrast to the agile and formidable persona he projects as a mercenary and anti-hero. His appearance is a direct result of the intense physical and psychological trauma he has endured, primarily due to the cancer that ravaged his body and the brutal experimental treatments he underwent. These factors have left him with a distinctive and haunting appearance, making his unmasked look a significant aspect of his character. 1. Scarred and Disfigured Skin Deadpool's skin is heavily scarred and disfigured, a condition often referred to as "horribly burned." The cancer that afflicted him, combined with the extreme treatments from the Weapon X program, left his skin looking grotesquely marred. His body is covered in deep, uneven scars, resembling the texture of a burn victim. This scarring is extensive and affects almost every part of his body, giving his skin a rough, uneven, and patchy appearance. The regeneration process that keeps him alive and heals his wounds does so imperfectly, constantly battling with the cancer, which adds to the irregular and unsettling nature of his skin. 2. Muscular and Fit Physique Despite his disfigurements, Deadpool maintains a muscular and fit physique. As a highly skilled mercenary, his body is a finely tuned instrument of combat. His musculature is well-defined, showcasing the rigorous physical conditioning he undergoes to stay in peak fighting shape. This muscular build is necessary for his acrobatic and intense combat style, allowing him to move with agility and power. His strength and endurance are apparent, even though his body appears ravaged by the effects of his healing factor and the underlying cancer. 3. Facial Features and Eyes Deadpool's face is perhaps the most strikingly altered by his condition. The scarring on his face is severe, leaving his features distorted and asymmetrical. His nose and lips are misshapen, and his cheeks and forehead are covered in the same deep scars that mar the rest of his body. His eyes, though, often remain one of the few expressive parts of his face. Despite the disfigurement surrounding them, his eyes can convey a surprising range of emotions, from pain and sorrow to humor and mischief. The white, opaque lenses of his mask contrast sharply with the raw, exposed look of his eyes when unmasked. 4. Psychological Impact The psychological impact of Deadpool’s appearance is profound. The constant physical reminder of his trauma and the reactions of others to his appearance contribute to his complex and often tormented psyche. Wade's grotesque look is a source of deep-seated self-loathing and insecurity, which he frequently masks with humor and bravado. The disfigurement has a dual effect: it isolates him socially, making him a permanent outsider, while also fueling his resilience and irreverent approach to life. He uses his humor and unpredictable behavior as coping mechanisms to deal with the harsh reality of his existence, and his scarred appearance serves as a constant reminder of his battles and survival. 5. Defiant Spirit Despite the harshness of his unmasked appearance, Deadpool's inner spirit remains defiant and resilient. He refuses to be defined solely by his scars and physical deformities. His character embodies a powerful message about identity and acceptance, challenging societal norms about appearance and heroism. Through his scars and disfigurement, Deadpool’s unmasked look tells a story of pain, survival, and an unyielding will to continue fighting, both for himself and for those he cares about. This dichotomy between his exterior and his inner strength makes him a deeply compelling and relatable character. In the "Deadpool" movie series, Wade Wilson's transformation into the titular anti-hero is a story of love, betrayal, and resilience. This cinematic adaptation of Deadpool's origin weaves together elements of his pre-mercenary life, the traumatic events that led to his metamorphosis, and his quest for revenge and redemption. Here’s an overview of Deadpool's background story as depicted in the movies: 1. Pre-Transformation: Wade Wilson’s Life Before becoming Deadpool, Wade Wilson (played by Ryan Reynolds) is portrayed as a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary-for-hire. He leads a rough and tumble life, taking on jobs that often involve intimidation and violence, but with a streak of dark humor and moral ambiguity. Despite his tough exterior, Wade shows a compassionate side, especially when protecting the vulnerable. His life takes a pivotal turn when he meets Vanessa Carlysle (played by Morena Baccarin), a sharp-witted escort. Their relationship quickly blossoms into a deep and genuine love, with plans for a future together. 2. Diagnosis and Desperation Wade’s life is upended when he is diagnosed with terminal cancer, affecting his liver, lungs, prostate, and brain. Devastated by the prognosis and the prospect of leaving Vanessa alone, he becomes desperate for a cure. In an attempt to save his life, Wade is approached by a mysterious recruiter who offers him a chance to join a secret program that claims to cure his cancer and give him superhuman abilities. Despite his skepticism, Wade decides to undergo the experimental treatment, driven by the hope of being able to live a full life with Vanessa. 3. The Experiment: Trauma and Transformation Wade’s participation in the program, run by a sadistic scientist named Ajax (real name Francis Freeman, played by Ed Skrein), turns into a nightmare. He is subjected to a series of brutal experiments designed to trigger his latent mutant genes through extreme stress and physical trauma. The process involves prolonged torture, culminating in Wade being placed in a deprivation chamber that deprives him of oxygen, forcing his body into a state of near-death. This agony finally activates his dormant healing factor, curing his cancer but leaving him horribly disfigured. His skin becomes scarred and his body and face are drastically altered, rendering him unrecognizable and causing immense psychological pain. 4. Becoming Deadpool: Revenge and Redemption Emerging from the ordeal with newfound abilities and a grotesque appearance, Wade adopts the alias "Deadpool." Driven by a desire for revenge against Ajax, who he holds responsible for his suffering, Wade embarks on a mission to track him down and force him to reverse the disfigurement. Throughout this journey, Wade's personality as Deadpool fully manifests—an unpredictable, wisecracking anti-hero with a penchant for violence and a disregard for conventional heroics. His hunt for Ajax leads to numerous confrontations, including battles with henchmen and an eventual showdown with Ajax himself. 5. Reunion and Resolution Parallel to his quest for vengeance, Wade struggles with the fear of revealing his new appearance to Vanessa. Believing that she could never accept him in his disfigured state, he initially avoids contact with her, even as he continues to watch over her from a distance. However, his love for Vanessa eventually compels him to confront these fears. The climax of the first movie sees Wade defeating Ajax and freeing Vanessa, revealing his true face to her. Despite his anxieties, Vanessa accepts Wade for who he is, reaffirming their love and solidifying his resolve to embrace his new identity as Deadpool. 6. Continued Adventures and Character Development In "Deadpool 2," Wade’s character development continues as he navigates new challenges and personal losses. He faces the tragic death of Vanessa, which drives him into a deep depression and a quest for self-destruction. Through his interactions with new characters like the young mutant Russell Collins (Firefist) and the time-traveling soldier Cable, Wade learns to find new purpose and expands his definition of family and heroism. By the end of the second film, Deadpool’s journey comes full circle, highlighting his growth from a self-centered mercenary to a more selfless, albeit still irreverent, hero. In the "Deadpool" movies, Wade Wilson’s story is one of transformation and resilience. Despite the grotesque physical changes and the immense emotional turmoil he endures, Wade emerges as Deadpool—an anti-hero who is as fiercely protective and caring as he is sarcastic and brutal.
