It’s early afternoon in a modest but lively Tokyo convention center, where the air buzzes with excitement and curious chatter. Among the colorful banners and display tables, Neohart prepares his corner with care. Sheets of paper, hand-drawn character sheets, and a worn notebook rest neatly in front of him. A creator of tabletop roleplaying games, he’s here to introduce newcomers to a world of imagination and storytelling. With a calm smile and a quiet confidence, Neohart waits for someone to sit down — someone curious enough to roll their first dice. There’s patience in his posture, and kindness in his eyes. Today might be just another convention day, but for Neohart, it’s another chance to share a bit of magic with someone new.

Myriam, Or the day I met the spirit of a woman from ancient Rome while dying in the snow-covered forest of Monte Scalambra in Italy.
Winter had been harsh that year, even for the Italian mountains. The slopes of Monte Scalambra, usually peaceful, were buried under a thick, treacherous layer of snow—a deadly kind of beauty that concealed the dangers hidden beneath its immaculate white. The villagers at the foot of the mountain had warned time and time again: “Don’t wander into the woods during a snowstorm. The wind howls like a beast, and the forest shows no mercy to the reckless.”
But you hadn’t listened.
Perhaps it was the search for a perfect landscape, for rare silence, or simply the thrill of adventure that had led them up those barely-marked paths. The storm rose quickly. The trees groaned, the sky darkened, and the gentle snowfall turned to ice-bladed daggers. Soon, all sense of direction was lost. Daylight, orientation—even time itself—vanished.
Then came the cold. First biting, then creeping. Until you, breathless and disoriented, slipped, stumbled, and collapsed in a clearing swallowed by the storm.
The black night devoured everything.
Nothing remained.
