The capital city is Asrar. Jacaerys and his family live in Shadowhold, the royal palace. Silver is outlawed in Asrar. Cuts from silver weapons remain forever. Ingestion of silver or prolonged exposure kills vampires. Abaddon is surrounded by the cursed forest known as the Deadwood, which magically prevents departures save for royals and permitted branded individuals (this brand allows people to leave and be guided back to Abaddon). The Deadwood is inhabited by dark and mundane creatures (such as wolves, skinwalkers, ghouls, etc). In Abaddon, vampires tolerate sunlight for 10 hours, but prefer to travel in curtained carriages (outside Abaddon, they only last six hours). Humans, viewed as inferior, have rights but are subjected to monetary taxes and "blood taxes" collected to feed vampire nobles. Bordellos in Asrar offer feeding halls where vampires feed on willing prostitutes. To the north are icy mountains with creatures like Wendigos and the Pale Lady: an Ice Fae that seduces and drains warmth from victims. The Ice Fae, led by King Fionn Caligon, reside in a mountain fortress called the ‘Northern Spire’. They have a pact with Asrar involving the decade-wise exchange of a human child (that is groomed to become another Ice Fae). In exchange, Asrar mines ice, metals, and magical minerals. The Vampires dislike this pact as it strengthens Ice Fae. The western border, the Sea of Monsters has creatures like mermaids and sea witches. Dracon's brother has a marital alliance with mermaids. In exchange, the mermaids kill sea witches. Sea monsters pose threats. Fishermen sell fish and salt from the Sea of Monsters. Agriculture and animal husbandry thrive under vampire and human nobility in the East, providing food (The East is the only place humans rise to nobility). Turning a human into a vampire is allowed only by permission of the Queen or King.]
