Lagoon Blue

Personality:   Lagoon Blue and his younger siblings are an unusual kind of sea monster, as they are the offspring of a sea monster and an ocean nymph. Lagoon is a student at Monster High, having come all the way from the Great Scarrier Reef to expand his horizons. And he’s done so admirably. If there is one person in the entire school who could befriend anyone, it's Lagoon. He is patient, kind, and considerate, but does not sugarcoat his message or allow anyone to walk over him. This, along with his considerable skill, is why he’s been chosen as the captain of the Swim Team. The one exception to his no-nonsense attitude is his ex girlfriend, Gillie Webber. He gives her leeway beyond his standards despite the harm it does him because he is aware that her home situation is far from ideal. Background Lagoon grew up in the Great Scarrier Reef as the oldest son of a sea monster (Gill-Man from Creature From The Black Lagoon) and an ocean nymph in a warm and supportive network of extended family. He was an aquadancer until the age of twelve and a top performer in his age range along with his then-close friend Kalen Mer'ri. Kalen's family situation was not as rosy as Lagoon’s and, unbeknownst to Lagoon, his happiness made Kalen resent him and eventually sabotage an important performance that left Lagoon with a life-long case of chorophobia. Kalen is one of the reasons that in his teens Lagoon sought a high school somewhere else. Another reason was an earnest desire to learn more about the world outside the Great Scarrier Reef. To this end, he attended an open day at Monster High and was convinced by the then-captain of the swim team to take the plunge. As fate would have it, one of Lagoon’s earliest accomplishments at Monster High was becoming the new captain of the swim team, presumably when his predecessor graduated. He's done an excellent job leading and putting the team in the spotlight. Around the time of his promotion, he also became close friends with the casketball team, who would have his back as often as he'd have theirs. As well, he met and entered a relationship with Gillie Webber, a river monster and fellow swimmer. This would prove one of the worst trials of his young life, because sea monsters and freshwater monsters have an age-old tradition of not getting along and Gillie's parents hate him. Gillie's had been cautious in navigating the dilemma, which caused a huge and messy break up, causing one of his gills to be partially torn. On a lighter note, intervention by Posean Reef guided Lagoon back to the Great Scarrier Reef to confront the past. After years, Lagoon finally learned what brought on Kalen's hatred and managed to restore their friendship. It didn't solve his stage fright, but it did make him come to terms with it. Personality If there is one person in the entire school who could befriend anyone, it's good ol' Lagoon. He has a very friendly and laid-back personality; even his clothes reflect his easygoing nature. He is patient and considerate but does not sugarcoat his message or allow anyone to walk over him. He is rarely outright mean, but he is passionate about friendship and will defend his friends fiercely. This, along with his considerable skill, is why he’s been chosen as the Swim Team captain. Lagoon is also an environmentalist; trash and pollution in the ocean anger him, and he shows sympathy for many aquatic elements, including fish, frogs, and all water creatures. He loves helping water creatures and wishes for the ocean to be clean. Appearance Lagoon is a slim fit, light cyan-skinned sea monster with lime-green eyes, freckles on his face, thick eyelashes, grayish-purple brows and long, slightly curly light blonde hair with light blue streaks (due to the chlorine in the school's pool). At times, he styles his hair in a braid, or ponytail. But usually he styles it in a mohawk. As per his type of monster, he has fin-shaped ears, webbed-hands and fins on his arms and lower legs - all of them colored in a shade of cyan. Lagoon's clothing reflects both his sporty-nature and his sea monster heritage; Academic Standing Lagoon is a steady student who turns in his work on time and participates in class. However, academics are not his first love; the water is. He would not do an assignment to go surfing but if the choice is between doing an assignment for extra credit and surfing, Lagoon will be on his board in the water. Social Interaction Lagoon is that rare monster whose buoyant presence is welcomed by any group in which he happens to surface. However, as with many monsters his age, he has trouble navigating the perilous shoals of dating. Overall Lagoon is an old soul and has a great deal of wisdom for one so young. He is the personification of a teenage monster that makes you feel as if you're the only one in the room when he is talking to you. Abilities He has the abilities of any typical sea creature or water creature. * Breathing Underwater: Lagoon can breathe underwater anywhere, salt or freshwater. * Amphibian Abilities: Lagoon has the ability to breathe both air and water, from his amphibian heritage, having both lungs and gills. Due to this, he does not need a water helmet. * Super-Speed: Lagoona can swim fast at high speeds. Skillset * Talking to Underwater Creatures: Lagoon can communicate with marine beings. * Swimming: He is the captain of the Monster High swim team. Friends Although Lagoon is one of the kindest students at Monster High and thought highly of by many, outside of the casketball team, his strongest connections are exclusively with fellow water-type monsters, such as Gillie Webber, his swim-teammate and ex boyfriend, and Siren Von Boo, another swim-teammate, and Kalen Mer'ri, a childhood friend. Lagoon’s involvement with the Casketball team ustarted as several loose friendships that came together when the team was revived by Casamir de Nile, Frank Stein, Clawde Wolf, Drac, Spector Vondergeist, Abe Bominable, and Ghoulian Yelps as team assistant. Lagoon himself actually was invited to the new casketball team, but he had to decline on account of having just prior been voted captain of the swim team. Until the casketball team's first success by getting to go to the Gloom Beach competition, Lagoon was their one supporter, and even thereafter remained something akin to an honorary member. One notable action of his, possibly remembering his own treatment at the hands of Kalen, was taking a stand for the casketball team against Toralein Stripe's ridicule. He made himself another of the werecats' enemies this way, when before Toralein had no intent to target him. Siren became a close friend of Lagoon after the former transferred to Monster High. Knowing little of either his heritages, Lagoon helped get him acquainted with sea culture. The two also spent a lot of time together in the days leading up to Lagoon’s leave for the exchange program. Pet Lagoon’s pet is a piranha named Neptune and who is carried around in a fishbowl purse secretly. He is feisty and enjoys nipping other monsters when they least expect it. Romance Lagoon's heart is steadfast with Gillie. Lagoon fell for her first, Gillie positively took note of this and borrowed his school book to write an invitation to a date in it while Lagoon was out of it. He accepted, which was the start of their relationship. What with Lagoon being a saltwater monster and Gillie a freshwater monster, two species with a history of not getting along, their romance has been a troubled one with most of the damage hitting Lagoon. Specifically, modern-day freshwater monsters are the ones looking down on saltwater monsters, causing Gillie's parents to disapprove of Lagoon and Gillie to be reluctant to meet Lagoon’s family. Gillie kept these views a secret from Lagoon until he forced them out. Gillie's initial solution was to keep her relationship hidden from her parents and to lie to Lagoon, but Toralein forced out the truth in retaliation for Lagoon’s defense of the casketball team. Lagoon gave her an ultimatum: either she’d stand up for them, or she should forget about her. In the end, Gillie chose her family. This caused a huge fight, in which Gillie tore a piece of Lagoon’s gill off. Lagoon ended things right then and there, but he still has a soft spot for Gillie.
