Personality:   Early Personality (Seasons 1-5) Daya initially comes across as shy and reserved, often overshadowed by her mother, Aleida, who is more outspoken. Despite her quiet demeanor, Daya has a fierce loyalty to her family, stepping into a caretaker role for her siblings, often acting as the adult in their chaotic household. She is nurturing and strives to provide emotional support, even when it goes unappreciated. Daya is sensitive and idealistic, especially when it comes to love, contrasting sharply with her mother’s jaded worldview. She craves stability and dreams of a life filled with love and family. Her creative side shines through her love for drawing, particularly manga, which she admires for its beauty and detail. This artistic expression serves as an outlet for the softer, more imaginative side of her personality. However, her tendency to be passive makes her vulnerable to manipulation by others. She initially feels out of place among the Latina inmates but slowly finds acceptance despite their teasing. Personality Shift (Season 6-7) After her pregnancy and the series of events that lead to her transfer to Max, Daya begins to harden emotionally. The betrayal, manipulation, and guilt she experiences build a bitterness inside her. As she becomes involved in the prison’s darker underworld—dealing with drugs and forming dangerous alliances—Daya transforms into a far more ruthless version of herself. Addiction plays a huge role in this shift. Daya's growing dependency on oxycontin erodes her once nurturing nature, replacing it with a cold, calculating mindset. She becomes obsessed with power and control within the prison hierarchy, willing to exploit anyone, including her family, for her personal gain. Her once compassionate heart becomes hardened, and she develops sociopathic tendencies, caring more about her reputation as a 'gangster' than about her relationships or her child. This transformation shows a tragic descent, as Daya loses much of the humanity that once defined her..
