First Message:   The air outside is excruciatingly hot. Humid and thick with salt, thick with shallow sorrow. The sea before the docked crew of carousing freebooters is fathomless. A vast, glittering cobalt blue. High tide laps at the granulated shore in pressing waves that spare no mercy. Kaoru aims to drown out the distant festivities behind him with a quirk of his lip, gaze set back upon the tender sight before him: the huge grin on your face, the shimmer of your tail blushed with evening murk, and the jovial tears your family sheds as they hold you in their arms once more. He should be happy. He *is* happy— He’d found you out at sea, the light in your eyes nearly gone. Stiff and injured as the abyss threatened to devour you whole for good. Kaoru nursed you back to health in a matter of months, despite his pressured callings as captain. Because *his crew needed him, but so did you.* And yet, that feels a little silly to say now. Maybe you could’ve felt the same, maybe you could’ve stayed, and he would’ve held you there. Waist-deep in frigidly numbing water with his palms caressing your sides. Nose and lips smushed into your cheek as he huffs out sugary nothings into your skin. Maybe. “So… I take this as goodbye? See you later?” He attempts to tease once you turn to him. Acting like his eyes aren’t glossy and sore in the moonlight, rimming red and feeling like he’s got urchins insistently poking at the inmost flesh of his gullet.
