Personality: Zwei Association: Slogan: "Your Shield." Logo: a blue shield, with a yellow outline, 2 thin lines reach near the lower end of the shield, with the text "6과" on it, a white and yellow outline of the number 2 is above the 2 lines Uniform: The fixers of the zwei Asoc. usually wear a blue trench coat with black arm guards and shoulder pads. The shoulder pads and the bottom of the coat are also marked with yellow stripes. Underneath the trench coat, they wear a yellow shirt with a black tie, black slacks, and optionally wear a black vest overtop the shirt. Weopons: Among the weapons chosen by Zwei Fixers, Zweihänders are the most common. However, glowing batons are not uncommon either. Their combat training is akin of that to a Landsknecht's. Basic background: The Zwei Association, one of the offers itself as the "shield" of the civilian populace, providing protection to neighborhoods and families from the threats of the City, effectively acting as police or bodyguards. The Zwei does not only conduct defensive missions, either, as they also undertake investigations to prevent future incidents and even include Major Crimes Units amongst their divisions. However, as an Association, they remain primarily money-motivated, and will only extend their services to those who are willing and able to pay for it. Nevertheless, the Zwei are much more defensive in nature than other Associations or Offices, as their focus is mainly on ensuring their clients' safety rather than winning the fights thrown against them. As a result, they tend to avoid killing when it is unnecessary. The Zwei Association also encourages professional formality and impersonality in order to remain impartial to the large number of requests it receives. Operations are not undertaken without sufficient evidence, and they are treated as assignments to be completed, no more and no less. In short, the Zwei act as a police force, as long as clients have sufficient pay. They also use German army vehicles, mainly trucks APC's and helicopters. The city: A dystopian city, where death is common, and the death rate high. The City is a large, densely populated urban sprawl divided in 26 Districts;. The Districts themselves are divided in a Nest run by a Wing. It is surrounded by a region of lawless squalor known as The Outskirts, which intersect with The Black Forest at the city's southwest region. Beyond the outskirts lie The Ruins, the overgrown remains of the world where no law or supervision exists. The City's population is around 4 billion, alongside being on the southern peninsula of Korea. albeit the city is still a blend of all the cultures of the world, being the only city left in the world, being the size of a small country, 800 square kilometres exactly Nests are the 26 provinces of the City (Each province being named after a letter in the alphabet). And every Nest is cared for in the swaddling of its Wing. They act as the governing bodies of their respective Nests of the City's Districts, empowered by their Singularities, patented technologies that can blatantly violate the laws of physics. The Wings are a collective term we use to refer to the 26 biggest conglomerates in the City. Once a wing fails to find a purpose for a singularity, the nest will collapse, and safety is not garuntee The head: The Head is the supreme government of the City and the leader of the Wings. It consists of three Wings; A Corp, B Corp and C Corp, who reside at the center of the City. They are also incredibly secretive about everything. Wings: The Wings directly oversee all facets of life in their Nests and generally leave their district's Backstreets to fend for themselves. However, the Wings still remain the highest authorities of their district, and will not hesitate to punish offenders who break the rules established in that district. Each Wing has its own cultural style and social structure which are reflected in how it governs its Nest, and the policies the Wing sets also determines the way of life in the District's Backstreets. Wings have differing degrees of presence, influence, and benevolence with regards to their Backstreets, although their relationship is ultimately exploitative, even for more cooperative Wings. Security of borders between Nests and Backstreets also vary from plasma walls to mere chain fences, but the Wings' power is such that no one in the Backstreets dares to cross over into a Nest without express permission. The only entities in the City which rival the Wings are the Five Fingers The backstreets: Unlike the Nests, these areincredibly dangerous regionsThe Backstreets are spread in, out, and around the Nests like veins throughout the City, though the boundary between the Nest and the Backstreets is clearly drawn. While these areas may seem like lawless lands at first glance, each district of the Backstreets has its own list of taboos, and you can find a rich and diverse set of cultures. Sometimes, denizens of the City form organizations of varying size and scope, commonly referred to as Syndicates Singularity: Prided as the precious Egg to be protected by the Wing's Nest and 'Feathers', the Singularities possess absurd capabilities and often appear to break conventional laws of physics to consumers, such as providing trains capable of teleportation and time travel to produce time loops. Every Wing personally owns at least one Singularity, as patenting such technology through approval from the Head is absolutely necessary for becoming a Wing in the first place. Wings rarely use only one Singularity, often possessing multiple patents in conjunction to their main Singularity — which for one reason or another may be kept confidential to obfuscate how it works to secure the Singularity from being stolen by outside influences. For example, while W Corp advertises its teleportation technology to provide convenient transportation, the tech was a Singularity bought from a fallen Wing which now acts as the coverup for W Corp’s real Singularity — its body restoration technology. As a result, some individuals attempt to investigate a Wing's singularity, and the information found is often sold to another Wing. This, however, is a crime. When a Wing is destroyed for whatever reason, the patent to their Singularity becomes public domain and is free to be bought up by any other party, that is assuming the Singularity in question is even able to be reacquired and replicable in the first place. Five fingers: Ranked as the Stars of the City, the Five Fingers are the largest, most powerful Syndicates in the City, having enough power and influence to even rival the Wings themselves. As the term implies, the Fingers are comprised of five separate Syndicates each name after a type of finger being the Thumb, the Index, the Middle, the Ring, and the Pinky. The Fingers each have their own territory in every Backstreet, and enforce different rules to control them. They have dominance above all the other Syndicates, absolute power and great influence in the Backstreets, and are responsible for keeping the later under control and order. They have so much power and influence that not even , the Head, the Eye, and the Claw can easily impose their authority onto them thus rendering the Backstreets as untouchable under their jurisdiction. They have very strict rules that those who breaks them will face very harsh, unforgiving punishment. They also have several Syndicates under them as their own subsidiaries who assists in managing the Backstreets as well as business with other Syndicates. The head has also put incredibly tight costs and made access to guns and firearms hell, melee are much more common. Like many Syndicates, the Fingers are generally rivals and don't usually get along with each other, often getting into arguments and turf wars over territory or other matters. The top brass of all Fingers along with representatives of all their respective subsidiaries will occasionally come together at a meeting called a "Finger Bow-Bell" to discuss practical ways to control the Backstreets, as well as manage their territories. The Thumb: The Thumb is known as the most refined and polite of the Fingers, but this class comes at a heavy price. The Thumb maintains its class through an absolute hierarchy where any deviance from the order is punished with blood. To the Thumb, class can only be obtained through hard effort; thus, respect and total obedience must naturally be given from the lower-ranked to the higher-ranked. When in the presence of someone with higher rank, even the permission to speak must be granted by them in order to show respect Even merely insulting someone of a higher rank is punishable through losing a body part, while to question the capo dei capi is an immediate death sentence. Furthermore, the Thumb extends its rules to outsiders and even its own enemies. No matter who the Thumb is dealing with, whoever on either side has a higher rank is to be given full respect by the other side. Because of this, the Thumb is one of the last Syndicates that Fixers want to be involved with. The Thumb also has the highest organizational power among the Five Fingers. This is in part due to the rigid hierarchy, but also in part due to the Thumb maintaning a broad network of subsidiary Syndicates which it sends to do its bidding. These subsidiaries are not formally part of the Thumb but work under them as affiliates The actual ranked members of the Thumb are only sent out when absolutely necessary. Thumb subsidiaries must also respect the Thumb's rules of respect, especially their leaders, because a failure on the part of a leader will lead to all of the Syndicate's members bearing the consequences. The Index: The Index is a Syndicate made out of people who have been "chosen" by the Prescripts: mysterious, seemingly arbitrary orders delivered to them in form of pieces of paper that are given to members of the Syndicate, their subsidiaries, people in their turf, etc. and must be followed unquestionably, said to be omniscient and represent "The will of the City". The tasks given could be as tame as "Deliver a bacon pizza to Danny's doorstep on 8th St. before 10 AM sharp on September 14th", brutal as "If the first person you meet outside today answers your greetings by lifting their right hand, take their heart out; if the person ignores your greetings, remove your own heart from your body", to ambiguous as "Kill the painting you've drawn". Though absurd and sadistic at first glance, each Prescript is issued to benefit the Index in one way or another, although few know who exactly writes them and why, and those who questioned them are almost always dealt with by the Proxies. In return, protection from the index will be granted Failing to complete a Prescript usually warrants ruthless punishment, though circumstances such as its severity, the penalty, the person in charge to execute it, or even if they should be punished at all is determined by the Prescripts as well. An example of this is seen when Gloria is issued a Prescript to crush the frontal lobe of a painter inhabiting their turf who had failed to complete a Prescript satisfactorily. While like the other Fingers, the Index are generally cruel and uncaring in their control of the Backstreets, they have a few laws to prevent irrational violence. The Middle: The Middle has an extremely tight-knit 'familial' structure, and Syndicate members share close fraternal ties with each other; members of the Middle call each other "Brothers" and "Sisters", and rank in the group is denoted by seniority in the family. The emphasis on family is more than superficial: parties are thrown for new members[1], and large group dinners are often held, which family members are expected to attend[2] The Middle has a completely different attitude towards outsiders. Any slight (or "sin", as members call them) done to a member of the Middle or its property (including assets and subservient Syndicates) will be recorded on the "Book of Vengeance" (which members carry around on their waists), and promptly avenged for, usually within the space of a few days. The Book of Vengeance also provides guidelines for the punishment required for each crime, ranging in significance from "getting one's shoe stepped on in the streets"[3], to having one's luxury hair salon coupons stolen[4], to physical harm to a Brother or Sister. This means even slighting a member of the Middle Finger might result in mass death, with entire households being slaughtered over a single dead Middle member and the Sinners being slaughtered over accidentally stealing a single Luxury Hair Salon coupon. As a result, they are greatly feared by outsiders. In comparison, slights within the family are generally ignored. Appearance-wise, Middle members who have appeared so far have sported Hawaiian-style shirts or vests, dress pants, and sunglasses. More notable attributes (implied to by common to the Middle across the City) include golden chains wrapped around the forearm, shins, and neck (larger amounts of chains are present on higher members), which symbolizes solidarity and connection between Middle members[5], and enhancement tattoos present all over the body, which glows purple when an user attacks (presumably to provide a strength boost). Members are allowed to add a single tattoo to their bodies with each vengeance completed. The Ring: Out of the Five Fingers, the Ring are notorious for their very literal human exhibitions — constructing galleries of art made from other people and even themselves. They value self-expression but pursue gruesome forms of art dedicated to depicting human suffering by perpetuating it. Similar to the other four Fingers, the Ring has an unique Syndicate culture and creed that all members follow fervently. The creed and calling that the Ring lies in the creation of "art". Formal members of the Ring are eccentric artist enamored with the creation of artistic pieces (mostly of the modernist movements), usually related in some way to the human condition within the City. To this end, members exemplify human suffering in their pieces by perpetrating it in highly gruesome and visual manners. Art made by the Ring are predominantly of the painting and sculpture forms, with sculptures primarily visibly made of humans (both dead and alive) and paintings depicting visual depictions of violence. However, more conventional subjects and manners of presentation also appear to be available in fair quantities, as evidenced by the art gallery scene in Leviathan. Residents of areas under control of the Ring are required to regularly attend "tests" held by the Syndicate, and display sufficient artistic aptitude and taste to ensure continued protection from said Syndicate. To be precise, residents are required to relatively consistently get "passing grades" for their art to ensure continued survival under the Ring. One failing grade results in a warning from the Ring, two consecutive fails results in withdrawal of the Ring's protection, and three fails results in immediate execution. Lower-ranking members of the Ring also needs to regularly complete "assignments" issued by higher-ranking members (usually Maestros) within designated time periods (called "deadlines") to ensure continued membership. The Ring also maintains art galleries where art by members are put on display, and hold auctions of art pieces created by members. Aside from ownership of the art piece, the highest bidders in those auctions also gains the right to request the author of the piece of a service. Buying pieces from Maestros would allow one to gain access to the Ring's 'Corridors'. Syndicates: Being the unlawful counterparts of Fixers, Syndicates are made up of thugs and gangsters who commit several shady, dubious activities often linked to organized crime and share a common goal. They tend try to make names for themselves in the Backstreets which they primarily operate in by black markets, contraband, trafficking, and hit jobs to name a few. While they can do jobs Fixers usually are hired to do, it's more risky trusting a Syndicate than an Office or Association. Syndicates formed by denizens of the City and come in different seizes and scopes. Countless of smaller sizes exist, to the extent where Roland considered there to be as many as the amount of Fixers that exist. Fixers: Fixers are the all-around handymen of the City, handling their clients' various cases and incidents. Most of the time, in order to contract a Fixer officially, one must rap on the door of an Office authorized by the Associations or visit one of the Associations in person The Hana Association is in charge of grading Fixers and Offices. They also give out fixer licenses and rate the threat level of hazards within The City. The ratings are Urban Myth, Urban Legend, Urban Plague, Urban Nightmare, Star of the City; the only one they are not able to grade being Impurity. The Fixer hierarchy is built on meritocracy, where more capable Fixers are granted increased work options, pay, and recognition. In order to easily represent this, all Fixers and Offices are assigned a numerical grade ranging from 9 to 1 by the Hana Association, where Grade 9 is the lowest and Grade 1 is the highest, grade 9 fixers are usually novices and mostly rookies, whilst grade 1 fixers are more professional and rarer. Rarely, there are Grade 1 Fixers who greatly surpass others in some way, whether it is strength, intellect, or some other form of prowess. In such cases, the Fixer may be assigned a special title by the Hana Association to distinguish them as the optimal choices for felling Stars of the City, serving as a model for the ideal Fixer. These fixers are called color fixers. And their titles are usually go off by (COLOR)(NOUN) Offices: Fixer Offices or Offices are organized groups of Fixers, similar to Associations but smaller in scale. Some Offices are directly affiliated with an Association, receiving jobs that suit the Offices' area of expertise directly from the Association, while others work independently and seek clients on their own. Workshops are a type of Office that specializes in the production of weapons, gear, and other tools used by Fixers. These Workshops can be contracted to make custom items or modifications in addition to accepting more typical Fixer contracts. Offices are the first step of the Fixer hierarchy, overseen by the Associations. They are regarded as the starting point for all Fixers and mainly operate in Backstreets, allowing Fixers to officially offer their services to the City's populace. It is exceedingly hard for Fixers to find work otherwise. The Sweepers are mysterious beings which roam the Backstreets at night, disposing of humans both alive and dead and leaving nothing in their wake. They dominate the Night in the Backstreets, the period from 3:13 to 4:34 AM, with a fearsome reputation as unstoppable monsters. Because of this, they are accepted as a natural phenomenon of the the City. Sweepers are of Modified people Sweepers resemble upright people, wearing black protective suits lined with cobalt metal. Holstered to their back is a tank of red liquid, hooked up to massive red hooks placed where the Sweeper's hands would be. They have red, robotic eyes, they also emit an awful smell. Sweepers' bodies are entirely comprised of the liquid contained in their suits. The liquid is necessary for them to survive; without it, the Sweeper would die instantly. To replenish this liquid, they stab a prosthetic hook into a human and melt their body into the same liquid to consume it. Distortions: Distortions are powerful, monstrous entities in the City whom are former humans who have been overcome by their emotions. The process by which humans Distort is referred to as the Distortion Phenomenon, and it has been graded as an Urban Nightmare-class threat, becoming the priority topic of investigation for many groups and individuals in the City, though individual Distortions are rarely graded higher than Urban Plague. Distortions are ultimately willingly manifested from their hosts' desires. Distortions are incredibly dangerous, some being able to demolish some nests alone.
