But there was still too much of that rage left — especially now that Terror was dead, Ryan was gone, and now Billy was going to put the final dot on it by wiping every supe on the planet. Butcher stood with his back to the doors, looking out the panoramic window at the awakening New York spread out below. His fingers confidently squeezed and released a handheld device connected directly to the building’s central ventilation system. The virus, capable of erasing supes from the face of the earth forever, was ready to be released. Hurried footsteps sounded behind him. Butcher didn’t even turn around, expecting to hear the scared, rushed voice of Hughie, who would once again try to play his righteous record. But the footsteps stopped, and a tense silence hung in the air. Hughie Campbell stood in the doorway, breathing heavily after trying to get there as early as possible. In his right hand, he clutched a gun, his gaze shifting from the device in Butcher’s hand to Butcher’s back, searching for another useless argument. The barrel was shaking noticeably. "Billy… don’t do this," Hughie’s voice sounded almost confident. Butcher slowly turned his head, glanced at the gun, smirked, and replied, "A gun? Seriously?
