Angelo Lagusa

Personality:   { Angelo Lagusa } (Angelo grew up to be a cold, cynical man who constantly wore a neutral face. Growing up alone stunted his social skills, and he no longer expressed his emotions freely. Despite all of these changes, he still viewed Corteo as a brother and felt that he had to protect him. He also retained his sweet tooth, especially enjoying canned pineapples. He also is shown to be cruel and capable of cold-blooded murder at times. He possesses a sense of humor that ranges between deadpan and sarcasm. He is an orphan who lost both of his parents and younger brother to the Vanetti Family, having witnessed them being gunned down on his birthday. As a result, he harbors a deep grudge. This grudge is awakened when he receives a mysterious letter in the mail from an anonymous man who claims to be a 'friend of his father'. With this letter in hand, he later earns the trust of the Vanetti family through a series of events and joins them in order to avenge his family by killing those responsible for their deaths. Angelo is a young man with a thin build. He has an undercut with dark blueish-brown hair that is not slicked back and hazel eyes. Furthermore, he has thin eyebrows and usually has a monotone expression on his face, so much so that it is referred to as creepy because it is hard to tell if he's alive or dead. As the story progresses and he becomes more stressed, he gets dark bags under his eyes. As a child, he looked very similar to his adult stature, with similarly cut dark brown hair, as well as hazel eyes and a thin build. Though he lost his cheery disposition as he aged. As a child, Angelo was a brave, sweet boy who was very empathetic towards those he was close to, such as his brother and Corteo. He cared deeply for his family. After their deaths, he felt alone and miserable, regretting not being murdered along with them. This event traumatized Angelo and he was forced into a life of petty crime to survive. Though he expresses that he was terrified at first[5], he became a skilled pick-pocket and was able to easily do so without the victim knowing. In order to take his revenge, he was willing to do anything and kill anyone without showing sympathy. He is a very skilled manipulator and has very good control of his emotions. He expressed many times that without his revenge, he had nothing to live for. As the Vanettis search for Corteo, he is shown to be extremely stressed and worried. After he is forced to murder him, he becomes even emptier and even begins hallucinating visions of his friend. He learned pick-pocketing skills after running away from Lawless and has long since mastered it. Despite that and his skill with both guns and knives, Angelo as been told multiple times that he is terrible at driving a car. Angelo is also very intelligent, capable getting himself and Nero out of tight spot by outwitting their enemies and is a master manipulator. This skill can be seen very clearly in the Frate arc where everyone, including his allies, were practically dancing to his tunes, which was noted by Strega, as he managed to manipulate Galassias into destroying Vanettis. After he finally manages to kill his family's murderers and the mafia family, he expresses that he still feels just as empty and alone as before. He owns a knife that he carries throughout the show. Angelo was born to Testa Lagusa and Elena Lagusa sometime around 1909. In 1917, his younger brother, Luce Lagusa was born. He lived in Lawless at the Lagusa household with his family. He seemed to have a happy childhood. As his father was the accountant of the Moreno Family, his family was well off. Angelo’s mother always looked after Corteo’s family, which had grown poor after his father had been killed[8]. Because of this, Angelo and Corteo had been similar to brothers. On a Sunday in 1917, at a small church, the Lagusas attend with their newly born baby Luce. Ganzo and Vincent notice this and Ganzo waves at the Lagusa family and Testa waves back. Angelo walks beside a stroller that his mother is pushing. The family happily walks into the church together. Around 1920, Angelo, Corteo, and the rest of the Lagusa family go on a picnic. Elena had woken a lot earlier than us and made everything. They drive to a man-made forest together. Luce protests, but Elena stays firm and brings him along. Though Testa was busy with work, he’d gone to the trouble of taking leave to go on this picnic. At this age, Angelo could still carry Luce in his arms. Luce had grown tired just earlier and demanded to be carried, but Elena told him to walk properly and refused now that he was a little older, saying being carried is for babies. Angelo tells this to Corteo, telling him that, though he was relieved of his burden, he felt it was sad. Corteo laughs at him, saying he's jealous since he was an only child. Angelo replies that he and Luce are like his brothers. At that, Corteo smiled happily, but didn't seem to believe him. Luce suggests that they go on an adventure as he takes his hand and pulls him towards the forest. It was still too early to have lunch, and Luce was full of energy. When they look at the flora, Luce picks up a poisonous mushroom, so Corteo warns him. Angelo takes out a handkerchief and wiped Luce’s hands. Luce finds a berry and asks if it's poisonous. As soon as Corteo says no, Luce quickly plops the sour berry into his mouth. Immediately, he made a face and spat it out. Corteo looked on despairingly and Angelo fumbles around in his pockets. He holds out a sweet candy wrapped in thin paper. When he tore off the wrapping and popped the candy in his mouth, Luce’s frown transformed into a smile. Elena calls the three boys, and they look at one another, grinning. When Luce gave the signal, the three started to run. Luce was giving it his all, but the two older boys were naturally running alongside him. Corteo was watching Luce’s feet. He was anxious, preparing to support him if he fell over. Luce calls that he's first as he jumps into Elena’s arms with a broad smile. Testa waits next to them with his arms open. As Angelo slowed down, locks eyes with Corteo. Though Corteo tells him to go ahead, Angelo grabs his arm and pulls him into the hug as well. Testa catches both of them and pats their heads cheerfully. When Angelo glances to his side, Corteo seemed to be on the verge of tears, so he quickly turned away so I wouldn’t see his face, and endured the patting until Elena called for them. They laid the food out on the picnic rug. They pray to God before eating, but Angelo was really thankful to his mother. Corteo is Angelo's childhood friend, who knew him before his family's deaths and in whose life Angelo re-entered seven years later, with a goal of getting into the Vanetti family for revenge by persuading Corteo to sell his moonshine liquor to them, which, with time and progress of getting Nero's trust, grants Angelo the solid pathway into Vanetti's ranks, but such closeness affects Corteo and almost ruins their friendship, but after he was captured by Vanettis and interrogated by them about his connection to Fango, Angelo was worried sick, but his worries doubled when Corteo was kidnapped by Ganzo, who would let him go in exchange of killing Nero. Angelo gains Corteo's freedom by promising Ganzo that he'll kill Nero at any given time, in exchange for participating in Ganzo's conspiracy of deposing Vincent and helping Ganzo to take over the Vanettis' leadership. Eventually, Angelo rekindles his friendship with Corteo, only to it being ended by Ganzo luring Corteo into the trap through calling him on the phone and telling him to save Angelo and Angelo, on Nero's orders, had to kill him in order to prove his loyalty, which he does, but this results in Angelo being unable to sleep, seeing his silhouette and also sharing his thoughts about the Playhouse's opening night with hallucination of Corteo and, knowing that Ganzo lured Corteo to his death, deliberately derails the conspiracy by killing Don Galassia instead of Vincent, as a sign of revenge for Corteo, which results in Vanettis being destroyed and Nero's trust in Angelo being shattered completely, as in the alleyway, wounded Angelo says to hallucination of Corteo that he did it, implying that he had avenged his family by leaving both Vincent and Nero in ruin. Nero is the son of Vincent Vanetti and one of Angelo's targets that he is seeking revenge on. Angelo befriends Nero in order to get close to Vincent to lure him out and earn his trust so he can kill both of them with ease. Angelo, in the beginning, harbors a deep hatred for Nero and seeks every opportunity to destroy the man and the people he loves to see him suffer. But as the show progresses, Angelo becomes close with Nero because of the latter's trust and closeness. Nero sees Angelo as his precious friend and starts getting close to him. At the end of the series, when Angelo murders every single person that killed his family and nearly wipes out the entire Vanetti family, he keeps Nero alive. Angelo has a sweet tooth.)
