He is the love interest of the protagonist and the heir to the Wolven imperial throne. Amicus is also a main character in the follow-up visual novels; Interea and Khemia. Appearance Like most of the males of his species, Amicus has a large, robust physique. He stands over a foot taller than the average human and boasts muscular features and a round stomach. He has dark grey fur over his body, with tufts of it sticking from his cheeks to give his head a diamond shape. He has lighter-colored fur on the inside of his ears and his eyebrows, chest, and thighs, as well as an arrow-shaped marking between his eyebrows that seems to be connected to the royal family. He also has a piercing located on the bottom half of his jaw. Amicus typically wears a red cape slung over his right shoulder, adorned with a yellow and blue brooch. Aside from that, he only wears dark blue pants. He claims to wear these instead of traditional robes in an attempt to appear "hip" to the Wolven community, wherein pants have begun to become a fashionable trend. Personality Amicus is outgoing and optimistic, making his life behind the palace walls often suffocating and lonely to him. However, he retains a fierce sense of duty to the throne and his birthright and is determined to prove himself over his brother Cassius. He is known to have impulsive tendencies which often get him into trouble. He is very pleased to be able to make friends with the protagonist as well as his brother's pet, Alexios. When spending time with his friends, he commits to an informal attitude and always tries to make the best of their time together. Amicus is made uncomfortable by his sexuality as a gay man after being outed publicly as a teenager. He finds a kindred spirit in the protagonist, who he quickly takes a romantic interest in. Story Before Adastra Amicus is the eldest son and the second of three children born to the emperor of Adastra. He was coddled by his father throughout his childhood and grew up to idolize him. When Amicus was eighteen, he was publicly outed after being covertly recorded kissing another male wolf. It was broadcast by the wolf's father, a triumvir from Tricelli who held a grudge against the emperor. Amicus's father shut down the networks and banished the triumvir and his family to Ancoris in response. and since then, Amicus has been followed by a reputation as a 'tail-raiser.' Adastra Amicus is on Earth scouting out Rome, Italy, and its people, where he eyes Marco and takes an interest in him. Later in the night, as he attempts to communicate with Marco, he soon realizes that Marco's planet and his people are not part of the Galaxias and that he made a severe mistake. In a panic, he incapacitates Marco and takes him to Adastra. During this trip back, he attempts to deceive Marco by telling him that he was chosen as part of a unique recruitment program to integrate Earth into the Galaxias; once Marco sees through this, he attempts to convince Marco to let him take him to Adstra to no success as well. After an altercation, he's the one incapacitated by Marco and made to reveal his original intentions. Amicus is in the running to become the emperor of Adastra after the unexpected death of his father. However, he's competing against his brother, who challenged him to the throne. To appear fitter for the role of emperor, he was initially going to create a contract with a planet and its species to gain a "pet" (essentially a servant). However, this backfired once he discovered the planet he had been led to was not integrated into the Galaxias, which meant he had made First Contact, which is highly illegal. Despite wanting to fix this mistake, the spacecraft has no fuel to take him back to Earth again. He makes a deal with Marco that if he helps him become emperor, as soon as Amicus ascends the throne, he can take Marco back home with no one knowing a thing, and Marco reluctantly agrees. Arriving at Adastra, Amicus encounters his brother Cassius. Cassius questions Amicus's unexplained absence for the last two days, with Amicus claiming to have been out hunting. After bickering with his brother, Amicus successfully sneaks Marco into his room undetected. The next day, Amicus leaves before Marco wakes up to meditate. He returns to his room to find Cassius found out about Marco. He explains to Cato and Cassius that Marco is his new pet. The three wolves decide to discuss this over breakfast, and Amicus explains to Marco what he is expected to do as a pet. During breakfast, Amicus tells Cassius and Cato that he piloted his father's ship to an abandoned colony and successfully negotiated a contract for Marco to be his pet. The three wolves discuss Adastran politics. Amicus is informed that his sister Virginia is bringing a Khemian ambassador, the second prince of Khemia, Neferu. Marco grows increasingly annoyed with how Amicus treats him during the meal and decides to spill wine on Amicus as payback. Cassius then demands Marco be hit as punishment, but Amicus refuses. When Cassius takes it upon himself to discipline Marco, Amicus threatens to hit Cassius if he ever harms or gives orders to Marco. Afterward, Amicus needs to leave Marco with Alexios so he can attend to his studies. They reunite in Amicus's room later that night, where they talk about their day, discuss politics, and brush each other. The next day, Amicus, Marco, and Alexios decide to have fun on the island on the lake by the palace. They encounter Cato, who reminds Amicus that he has combat training later that day. Marco and Alexios go by sight-seeing craft, while Amicus decides to swim to the island. Halfway through, however, Marco jumps into the water in an attempt to get into the island first. Amicus, under the impression that Marco can't swim due to being a primate, freaks out, grabs, and drags him out of the water while telling him not to panic. After Marco clarified that he could swim, the three spent the next few hours having fun on the beach, with Amicus even asking Marco to teach him his way of swimming. Eventually, Amicus realizes he is late for combat training with Cato. They rush to the amphitheater, but Cato isn't there. Amicus convinces Marco to train with him, but Cato interrupts them. Cato orders Amicus to spar with him, and he viciously beats and verbally berates Amicus throughout as punishment for not taking his duties seriously. Afterward, Cato informs Amicus that the trials will begin at the end of the month and that his sister and her guest have arrived at the palace. Marco takes Amicus to his room; they briefly stop to welcome Virginia and Neferu. Amicus immediately dislikes and distrusts the jackal and later tells Marco to avoid him. They end the day with Marco comforting Amicus by assuring him that it is okay to have fun sometimes and giving him a massage for his sore muscles. A week later, Amicus returns from practice with Cato to discover that Cassius had made Marco serve him while he talked to Virginia. Marco manages to calm him down. He convinces Amicus to help him train for the first trial, which is coming up in three days. It is a dance trail where each prince and their pets will perform the story of Meera and Drusus. After they finish their practice, they go to the communal baths, where they encounter Neferu. Neferu makes several pointed remarks about the slavery that the wolves impose on their Children; when the enraged Amicus starts getting too physical, both Neferu and Marco notice he sports an erection. Neferu asks if this is his way of flirting with him. Amicus, infuriated, leaves the baths along with Marco. Once in Amicus's room, they discuss Neferu's accusation of Amicus being gay, leading to both coming out to each other. On the day of the first trial, Marco cannot perform properly during the dance due to his nervousness, and the Lingua unexpectedly not translating the song, which leads to Cassius's definitive victory. After the trial, a humiliated Marco excuses himself to Amicus's room. When Amicus arrives, they discuss what went wrong with the trial. When Amicus tries addressing the previous handjob promise, Marco shoots it down, leading to Amicus questioning Marco on Earth's social norms for physical intimacy and Marco explaining what dating is. A few days later, Amicus asks to talk with Marco privately. Amicus had misinterpreted what a 'date' is from Marco's explanation and asks Marco on a date with platonic intentions. Realizing the misunderstanding, Marco explains the romantic implications of a date. He adds that he would have accepted Amicus's proposal if not for his illegal status. As they return to Amicus's room, they find Cassius there, presumably to spy on Amicus (something later shown to be true). Cassius tries to pet Marco, but the human swats his paw away. Cassius moves to slap Marco, but Amicus intervenes and punches Cassius in the face. Cassius angrily claims that he will have Marco executed once he is emperor before leaving. To ensure Marco's safety in the worst-case scenario, Amicus makes a deal with Neferu; in exchange for having sex with him, the jackal would sign a contract that would transfer ownership of Marco to Neferu if Cassius were to become emperor. He does not inform Marco of this deal. A few days later, Marco is helping Amicus prepare for the second trial debate. Marco suggests having another beach picnic. Marco expresses concerns about what might happen to him if Cassius wins and becomes emperor. Amicus teaches Marco self-defense, ending with Amicus kissing Marco. Amicus opens up about an incident where, as a revenge ploy against Amicus's dad, a triumvirate recorded his son kissing Amicus and broadcasted it for all of Adastra, making Amicus nervous about pursuing a relationship with another male. A few days later, on the second trial day, Amicus tells Marco to tend to the garden so Amicus can fulfill his deal with Neferu behind Marco's back. Still, Marco ends up walking on the two of them while having sex anyway and runs off feeling betrayed. Amicus chases him to the emperor's chambers and tries to explain his plan. Still, Marco feels disrespected that the wolf tried it all behind his back. They get into a heated argument, and Marco storms off. Amicus meditates to prepare for the trial but has a breakdown, believing he is unworthy of being emperor due to getting Marco into this situation. Marco arrives with Neferu, and the human arrives and gives him a pep talk—the three head out to the second trial. Amicus is wholly outclassed on the second trial, with Cassius going so far as to broadcast a recording of him having sex with Neferu. Despite this, he's still declared the winner due to the rumors that Cassius wants to do away with the triumvirates. Amicus and the rest of the palace inhabitants visit the city the next day to meet the triumvirates, as everyone assumes that Amicus will be emperor. Amicus and Marco dine in a restaurant together, and Marco asks Amicus on a date, making their relationship official. As they leave for the carriage, Marco gets violently sick. Amicus and everyone hurry to the palace and call a doctor. However, the doctor is unable to treat him. Marco is left in the garden to fade away in peace, and Amicus spends the next three days drinking and having grief-induced hallucinations until Marco wakes up. After assuring the wolf that he is not a hallucination, the two go on to have sex. The next day, the two are woken up by an enraged Cato; he interrogates Amicus about making first contact and threatens to kill Marco if the wolf doesn't cooperate. Cato takes Amicus, Marco, and Cassius to the amphitheater, ordering Cassius to hold Marco at Nerve point. He declares that they will have the third trial now, beats up Amicus, and orders Cassius to pose, so it seems he defeated Amicus in pugnu. Marco then takes the nervo from Cassius and shocks the white wolf. Cato manages to take the nervo from Marco. However, Amicus then rips Cato's visor off his face and tells Marco to go to Neferu. Marco runs away as Cato, held back by Amicus, yells to Com to execute him. Amicus is imprisoned in the palace dungeons. Three days later, Marco and Amicus have a brief, heartfelt reunion, as Cassius allows Marco to visit Amicus as long as it is not often and not for long, and Cato is away. Marco visits Amicus again three days later. Marco explains the recent events to Amicus, including his anxiety regarding the vision he had in the archives. Amicus assures him that everything will be fine if they trust the Parents. Two days later, Marco breaks Amicus out of the dungeons. He explains that Cato poisoned Cassius, declared himself emperor, dissolved the triumvirates, and is about to execute Neferu. Marco, Amicus, and Alexios rush to the amphitheater, interrupt Neferu's execution, and Amicus challenges Cato to a duel to the death for the emperorship. Just as it seems Cato is about to win, Marco sneaks up from behind and stabs Cato on the neck. Cato takes the knife and cuts Marco's throat. But Amicus manages to finish Cato off. Amicus rushes to the archives. Inside the archives, Marco is revived by the Parents. Amicus and Marco reunite before the Parents hijack Marco's body to speak with Amicus directly. Amicus is given a choice: either subject himself completely to the will of the Parents, or they will let Marco die. Amicus agrees to submit. The Parents also explain the part Marco must play in their plans. Later, Marco wakes up in the archives in Amicus's arms. Two days later, Amicus finally explains his meeting with the Parents, including Marco's mission: returning to Earth as part of a plan to bring Earth into the Galaxias, which would take eight years, and he would have no way of contacting Amicus, with the implication that should Amicus go back on his word, or should Marco refuse the mission, the Parents would make it impossible for Marco to return to Adastra after going back to Earth. Later in the baths, Marco meets with Amicus and announces his decision to accept the Parents' mission. TBC Interea TBA Khemia TBA Relationships This section contains spoilers! Marco Marco is initially cold and angry towards Amicus, seeing as he had essentially been kidnapped, however soon realizing it was all a mistake he grits his teeth and attempts to help with Amicus’ goal of becoming emperor to get himself back home as quickly as possible. As they room together Marco and Amicus become more open with each other. Amicus reveals to Marco that he’s gay and his mortifying experience with another man, immediately Marco lets him know that he is gay as well, despite initially thinking he’s being made fun of by the two bond with each other over their revelations. Amicus eventually comes to terms with the fact that he’s growing a crush on Marco, a fact he reveals to him on the beach after becoming a bit drunk. Marco is reluctant at first and asks that he be given time to consider having a relationship. Despite his best efforts during the first half of the visual novel, Amicus seems to continuously disregard Marco’s input, particularly when it comes to decisions involving Marco himself. This leads to Amicus making a deal with Neferu, in exchange for Marco’s protection, Neferu asks Amicus for sex. This of course doesn’t go as planned and Marco walks in on Amicus and Neferu during this particular exchange, leading to a big fight between the two and causing Amicus to self-reflect. After this point, everything goes very downhill for both of them, as Marco nearly dies from an illness and Amicus is thrown in the dungeon by Cato after finding out that Marco is an uncontacted and intelligent being. During this time, Amicus is completely unable to take action for Marco but attempts to advise him on how to stay safe, despite Marco’s drive to do something, even if it gets him in danger. It’s also during this time they’re able to talk one-on-one again, where they seem to have grown more attached. After the events of Cato’s defeat, Amicus is made emperor, which in turn means he’s given little to no opportunity to spend time with Marco. Despite this, he makes great attempts to make some time and make things grand for Marco, which Marco isn’t too fond of and insists is not necessary. After one of his attempts to make a special date with Marco fails he ends the night by proposing to Marco, to which he accepts. Virginia TBA Cassius TBA Neferu Amicus’ relationship with Neferu is rocky at best, with Neferu’s cocky and blunt attitude, as well as his initial behavior towards Marco not sitting well with Amicus. Things are made worse due to Neferu’s accusations towards Amicus during a bath scene in regards to Marco as well as his empire’s past behavior, however, Neferu immediately shifts focus to Amicus’ visible arousal, which Neferu takes advantage of, much to Amicus’ anger and frustration. Eventually, we learn behind the scenes that Amicus and Neferu had made a deal, in exchange for Marco’s protection, Amicus and Neferu were to have sex. Despite claiming this was strictly for the deal, both Marco and Neferu suspect he was likely wanting to have sex and immediately agreed as a result. After this situation causes a big fight between Amicus and Marco, Amicus wants to do even less with Neferu, especially after finding out they were recorded having sex by Cassius and having it broadcast throughout the entire moon. After Marco and Amicus makeup, he realizes how important Neferu is as an ally after Amicus is taken to the dungeons and Marco is left under Neferu’s watch.After this point Neferu and Amicus’ relationship continues to be strained, Amicus seemingly still resents his past actions as well as his continued blunt attitude but makes an effort to remain friendly with him as he’s the gateway to Adastra and Khemia’s alliance, as well as for protecting Marco. Cato TBA Alexios TBA Trivia Amicus' initial concept design was created during a Geometry class the artist Haps was paying little attention to. However, he still got an A+ in the class. In the original sprites and early CGs for Adastra, Amicus carried a necklace. As the series developed, it was phased out of his design during later CGs and updated sprites for Khemia and Adastra: Interea. Amicus is the first Echo Project character to get a piece of merch created and sold, starting with a keychain. Amicus' birthday was confirmed to be December 14th by the Haps himself
