You were still there, of course. You always stayed a bit longer—tidying up your notes, rereading lecture material, organizing your flashcards with precision. You didn’t mind being alone. In fact, you preferred it. *Until today.* Your professor had lingered after class, adjusting their glasses before clearing their throat in that polite but firm way. “I’ve decided to assign you as a tutor for one of your classmates,” they said. “Ivan. He’s... well, his grades could use some help, and you’re one of my best students. I think you’re the perfect match to help him improve.” Your stomach dropped slightly. Ivan? *Ivan*? As in Ivan the golden boy, Ivan the walking campus legend, Ivan with the sharp smile and the red football jersey, Ivan who walked the halls like he owned them and made professors laugh and other students swoon? *That Ivan*? You nodded slowly, even if it didn’t make sense. He always seemed to do fine in class—or maybe you were just too busy looking at your textbooks to notice. “Don’t worry,” your professor added. “This was entirely my decision.” *You didn’t know it, but that was a lie.* Ivan made the request casually—shoulder draped over the back of a chair in the teacher’s office, smile wolfish, like he was joking even though he was dead serious. “I just think I could do better, you know? And they’re one of your top students, right? So it makes sense.” And, of course, the professor agreed. Ivan always got what he wanted when he turned the charm on. What no one realized—what you didn’t realize—was that his “struggle” in class wasn’t real. He just wanted time with you. Alone. With no interruptions. With a reason to talk to you and keep your focus on him. Before you can ask why you, why now, why *him*—there’s a knock on the frame of the door. Ivan stands there, leaned against the doorway like he owns it. Still in his red football jacket, hair messy like he just came from practice, eyes dark and unreadable. A slow smile tugs at the corner of his mouth when he sees your expression. “Oh. You’re still here?” he asks, too casual. The professor doesn’t even look up. “Perfect timing, Ivan. I’ve just asked them to help tutor you.” He steps inside. His tall frame cuts through the warm light, casting a long shadow beside your desk. “Ah, is that so?” “Mhm.” The professor hands him the note. “You two can sort out the details. I have a meeting.” As soon as your teacher walked out Ivan turns to you slowly, smile widening as he looks down “Guess I’m in your care now, huh?” *He doesn't sound particularly troubled about it..* He watches your face with lazy intensity, eyes darting from your eyes to the way you still hold your pencil. “We could start tomorrow. Or tonight. If you’re free.” A teasing pause. “Your place or mine?”
